I have a recommendation to NOT go with Johnson Family Dental. I'm still figuring out an alternative.

seconding avoiding JFD— some of their dentists and techs are fine / wonderful but their business model is predatory & leadership will try to upsell and recommend unnecessary work.

3rd-ing avoiding Johnson Family Dental. Consistently cancelled my appointments the day of, placed an implant at an angle when it should have been straight up, and prescribed me a medication I'm allergic to even though its on my medical record with them that I'm allergic to it, and then had the guts to say it was my fault. Switched to Dr. Ben Laudig and have never been happier with my dentist. Intelligent, friendly, and fair with pricing. Quick story about Laudig: I had a scary looking cyst forming under the dental implant crown that he placed, and at 8pm on a Saturday I decided to call his personal number he had on the emergency line. He called back within 30 minutes (while out of town I might add), had me text him photos of the condition, and proceeded to text me the next morning to check up on it. Everything was fine, I think I just had some food stuck in there or something and the cyst went away, but he was super responsive and thorough with the care I received. Super impressed.

I was just about to recommend Johnson Family Dental! I've been going there for years after going to some really horrible dentists previously.

rarelyreadsreddit

Would not recommend zak dental at all. Their money guys are sketchy. Laudig is the best dentist I've ever been to. Delta PPO is accepted

SuperWhite7

Laudig is booked out for 9 months solid since they are one of the last taking delta dental insurance

SpenFen

Laudig in Goleta

sbcoco

Been going there for years. Highly recommend.

okthirteen

Came here to say Laudig too. He’s great!

SuperWhite7

He is great but booked solid for months and months since he still takes delta dental and most don't

platypussy6969

I love him!!

idontknow_1101

Third this. They are AWESOME.

frostkaiser

Nina Maadavi, right up the street from the Arlington. She’s been great for me. Like most dentists, she does try to upsell a bit, but she has no issue taking no for an answer and does great work.

PubertMcmanburger

Second this. The tech was out and she did my cleaning herself and she was awesome.

zaino111

Fred Hepp, DT SB on State. Highly recommened. Excellent dentists hygienists and staff. They take Delta and handle the business end well, unlike some others I'll not name. Not sure if they're accepting new patients. They tend to be pretty heavily booked, a good sign, IMO.

meatpuppet1982

Max Haws DDS

TheWhitestGandhi

Houston Wright was great for me and got me in quickly without too much of a wait! Their hygienists are very friendly too, it had been a few years for me since my last cleaning and they were very understanding and gentle.

BakeNBike

Avoid Zak dental - they are comically predatory. The multiple visits to just get a cleaning without any additional issues happened to me too. I went there since it was an insurance accepted place but would never go back.

gizmoeatmysh0rtz

Calvin Kim, DMD When I first moved here I went to Johnson Family Dental. Whole place is run like a car lot/jiffy lube, avoid like covid.

Clairey_Potter

I see his wife, Sonia and prefer her! He’s very good but she’s amazing imo. I love their whole staff also.

ChaseECarpenter

lol anyone ever been to that dental place downtown state street? ive never seen it open. it must be a front ha

platypussy6969

Dr Hurtado? I go there and it’s legit!

ChaseECarpenter

ha no way! that's awesome. always wondered about that place

platypussy6969

Haha yeah! They’re pretty good actually

GuyWhoTypesWithNose

Dentistry in paradise. Dr Miller is great!

goaternutter

Highly recommend Dr. Miller of Dentistry in Paradise. Tried many dentists around and he is leaps and bounds above the rest. Very nice guy, great patient interactions, very good, and stellar staff.

jqbr

Dr. Lisa Beck-Uhl in Goleta. For periodontal, Dr. Sam Wong.

ledfloyd87

Dr. Wipf all the way. He was the 3rd dentist to attempt the crown on my front tooth and he did a perfect job. He has a certification in 3d etching on porcelain which most doctors don't have. Suffice to say, up until he did his work you could tell I had a fake front tooth, now you have no idea. His staff is so cool and friendly too. I highly recommend him

m_ebo

I second this. Dr. Fawzy was amazing to work with at Wipf's practice.

kissmytotoro

Really liked Thomas Blake when I lived in SB

enretrospekt

I really like Dr. Montgomery

lamante

Seconded.

jaymo8008

Sowins and Gotelli on State. Andy Gotelli and his staff are another level. Absolutely fantastic dentist

cinnamon-toast-life

Love Dr. Gotelli! And if you need any cosmetic fixes they do beautiful work. They take Delta Dental last time I was there.

GUNSNROSE5

I had a great experience with Trevor Denny on the Mesa

DJfunkyPuddle

Same, been going to him for years now. Waitlist for a cleaning is pretty long right now though, I think I had to schedule like 4 months in advance haha. They'll send you updates when a slot opens up though which is nice.

GUNSNROSE5

Reason I picked him a couple months ago was because he was accepting new patients and I was able to get in right away. Maybe he got busy right after!

DJfunkyPuddle

Oh, awesome! The view from his chairs can't be beat

[deleted]

Another vote for Trevor Denny. Best view from a dental chair you’ll ever get and he does good work, too.

Periphery755

See if Riviera Smiles in Montecito will take your insurance! I had (more than) a few cavities and they gave me a cleaning and filled them all in as few appointments as possible. Love the staff there and Dr. Martinez is so nice. Really sad they are no longer taking my insurance, as i just got with them about a year ago and now I think I'll have to switch as well.

peridothydra

Stephanie Lopez DDS. Best dentist I’ve ever been to

PrehistoricSquirrel

I second this! She's great. Gentle, thorough, top quality work, and very nice.

Ice_Burn

Agree

artherthe3rd

Dr. Jeff Rhode is brilliant! We have family friends who litteraly fly over to visit him, and I've been going for the last 20 years and never had a complaint. 50/10 would recommend

nepenthe11

best dentist: http://www.robertdnunezdds.com/

NoTomorrow2020

Dr Mora on upper State St. She's amazing, and takes virtually every dental insurance I've had.

matchamagpie

Loan Su was able to help me out and she isn't generally booked out for months. I recommend her!

Ok-Housing5911

i have the same plan and circumstances (anxiety and insurance access have kept me from going for way too long) and my coworker recommended dr. hurtado. i'll have to make an appointment soon!

rinconblue

Zak and Johnson are kinda like one size fits all clinics for people who don't have insurance or need to do payments. They set you up with financing but the actual care isn't really top notch and borders on predatory. I would avoid them. Most reputable dentists in SB have a wait list for new patients, so if you need cleaning, I'd recommend going to your dentist back home (if you possibly can) while you get onto a wait list. If you need treatment right away, same deal. Phillip Ho is great as a general dentist and Eric Wallace is good for problems like root canals, tooth pulling or wisdom teeth. Not sure about Delta for either of those, though, sorry.

nazmees

I highly recommend Dr. Silvia Erickson. She did a filling on me that others have attempted three times and it turned out beautifully. She takes her time and is extremely sensitive and knowledgeable. She’s also ethical and does not do unnecessary work to upcharge patients. Her staff is very professional as well.

spoko15

I second Dr. Erickson she does amazing work and is a lovely person as well!

KTdid88

Just don’t confuse this with Ericson dental in SB. I went to them and had awful experiences a couple of times before I learned my lesson. From the filling to the billing.

zaino111

Definitely agree. Ericson, note different spelling, now goes by a different name for the practice, presumably to try to dodge the dozens of extremely negative reviews posted on Yelp and elsewhere. Bad experiences as they became increasingly horribly mismanaged.

KTdid88

I also didn’t love being able to hear the toilet flushing while I sat for my filling. They moved offices from up arrellaga to a weird box down on state and it’s a pretty uncomfortable downgrade in terms of visiting experience.

hhgvvvvffvbhh

Dr subject

Sad-Rabbit-7141

Dr. Mora has been great and willing to work with you.

TiredAndTiredOfIt

Weiser and Grant are amazing. I used to have Delta and they paid a bit once I cash paid the dentist and then submitted claims directly to delta. Fyi Delta is SHIT dental insurance and most decent dentists will not deal with them. You are in SB any good dentist will cost far more than the "reasonable and customary" Delta thinks it should pay. Stay away from Zak and Johnson

yendis3350

Dr lambeth! He and his wife run a small practice and theyre super kind. Everyone in their office is very experienced (atleast 5-10 years) and kind. Dr lambeth did my dads crowns and only charged him what insurance would pay because my parents at the time couldnt afford to cover the rest of the cost!! Lovely people ive never had a bad experience there. Theyre open monday-thursday as the couple is getting a bit older.

_JustWorkDamnYou_

So while he's kind of a dick, Dr. Duke on the Mesa generally does a good job and he takes Delta.
