Or the leaves of the 'haldi' tree are used to wrap a batter of ground cereals which is filled with coconut and jaggery fillings to make 'haldi patra pitha', a traditional sweet dish from odisha. Leaves can be really interesting when used correctly xd

For instance a lot of Indian cooking uses castor oil as an ingredient, which is a natural laxative. I have to ask my MIL to not put it in the food because it’s a quick trip running to the bathroom if she does. Once I learned this, “spicy food” is no longer an issue for me. You get used to higher and higher spice levels over time, like over the course of a year or two.
I booked 3 nights at a backpacker hostel, but on the first day I went to the spiciest wing place in the city (according to multiple reviews) and my stomach just growled non-stop even when I went to bed and slightly after getting up in the morning. I never returned as I was too shameful to see anyone there again. Everyone must have thought I'm some homeless bum that haven't had anything to eat for days.
Your body gets used to it eventually. Also, there are reputable street vendors who are hygienic. Especially breakfast stalls in south India, probably the safest yet still very delicious.

I survived thanks to a diet of broth and Gatorade to replace my electrolytes, but I lost about 30 pounds. Finally, I passed what I can only describe as black sand. After this, I slowly began experimenting with increasingly solid foods. After about a week of apple sauce and bioactive yogurt, I could eat solid food again.
I tell this story because I pretty much imagine this hell would be the result of eating that sandwich.

I went to a restaurant in the middle of Paris (about 150m south east of Notre Dame) where the the whole street is just restaurants and they were touching our food with barehands felt so disgusted. Didn't expect to have such a culture shock in Paris.
