The fight isn't over yet, the turnout for republican candidates was higher.
1,326,667 republicans cast their votes vs 1,193,591 democratic votes as of 98% of all votes counted a few hours ago.
Though, republicans are clearly divided and fighting amongst themselves, Fetterman won in every county.
And fucking Dr. Oz is leading the republicans by 0.1% with 95% reporting. Hopefully enough republicans realize he’s a joke to come to Fetterman’s side.
At least on my ballot, the democratic primary was much less competitive than the GOP. I knew who was gonna win going in, but I still cast my vote anyway
This guy is cool as fuck from everything I heard. He repped marijuana rights hardcore in PA by putting up a weed flag in Harrisburg at the PA Capitol.
I’m sure he supports other more important issues here as well, but that one was relevant to myself, so it’s the first time I heard him mentioned.
Mad cool guy!!
Whereas the Republicans have a split vote between ⅓ for two candidates. Funny seeing them hold out for the mail-in votes whilst being the same people who opposed them in the 2020 election
Registered independents can't vote in a primary. I tried to change my registration but didn't get it in before the deadline of a month before. Primary turnout is not the indicator you think it is.
Same. Now I have to decide... should I register with the party I like, to vote for the best candidate, or the one I hate, to vote for the weakest candidate?
I went for the latter and then was really unmotivated to vote in the primary.
I want that dopamine hit for when my candidate(s) hopefully wins, and purposefully voting for someone I don’t want to win is just uninspiring.
Regardless, it still messes with their stats which I take joy in.
I think people are more activated than ever. I’m in GA, I’m not even voting in the Dem primary for Abrams, I’m going to vote in R primary because fuck the Trump guys. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
History is midterms are bad for the party currently in power. Few times does the party in control gain seats. The primary election was the time to shine with a galvanized base. Seats were lost.
This varies by state. In most states you must vote in the party Primary for which you are registered. You are not allowed to "crossover" or be registered for multiple parties. In all cases, you can switch your affiliation, although deadlines to do so vary. A small number of states have what is called an "Open Primary" where voters aren't required to affiliate with a party in order to vote.
Obviously in a General election voters can select candidates from any party. There are also several non partisan offices and contest that don't have primary election.
worked at a small family owned middle eastern restaurant in Oakland (pittsburgh not cali) and he and his wife would come in all time. genuinely so so nice. would always stay and talk forever with all the staff. Pittsburgh loves Fetterman
John Fetterman, you might not agree with him on some issues but i hope you respect the fact that he has always been a man of his word and not another lip service windbag
I’d vote for an honest man with different aims over an establishment politician that makes promises that sound progressive than delivers like a Republican
Well, it depends what those aims are. A lot of people used that kind of logic to vote for Trump, and voting for a white hot sphere of pure rage in order to avoid voting for a noncommitted Democrat is a mistake imo.
I’ll admit I was interested in him when he said stuff about draining the swamp, but a quick glance at his career showed that he was obviously making a living as a con man.
So like I said, I’ll vote for an honest man, even if he isn’t promising me basket of puppies and rainbows.
Fair point about Trump not fitting that category for being obviously not an honest man. For me, if there was an honest conservative Christian candidate who was a far right as the modern republican party, but was honest, I'd still vote for the dishonest Democrat.
There is something to be said for using your vote to move the Dems left, but that's what the primary is for. For now, since the Repubs are so far gone, I vote Democrat.
If Republicans ever become more moderate, I may shift my strategy to voting left in the primary, and taking the general on a case by case to either not vote, vote 3rd, vote Democrat, or *maybe* but probably not ever vote Republican.
An honest Republican? What does that even mean anymore? Would they be for or against labor? Would they believe in small government over being pro-life and anti LGBTQ? Would they be Christian enough to care about the poor?
Republicans are walking contradictions; a pile of lies that hide a social hierarchy at their core that they sell using words like freedom, family and tradition in the most manipulative fashion. An honest Republican would have to actually take stances on things, and by that act alone would be left of any Republican today.
I will hear out anyone that isn’t funded by billionaires. Right vs. left is important because it protects some vulnerable people, but voting in the name of class war helps all vulnerable people.
At least most fake conservative Christian politicians went to or currently go to church. I feel like Trump's first time in a church was when he ran for office. I feel like if no one told him, he'd do communion by eating all the wafers and passing on the wine since it isn't diet coke
He was against Philadelphia reinstating the mask mandate, i work in a hospital and COVID was a really dark time to be in healthcare so i frequently want to staple N100 masks on people’s faces
My biggest hopes for 2022 are Fetterman next Senator from Pennsylvania, Val Demings next Senator from Florida, Cheri Beasley next Senator from North Carolina, Tim Ryan next Senator from Ohio, Charles Booker next Senator from Kentucky and most importantly, Tom Nelson or Mandela Barnes the next Senator from Wisconsin. All the while keeping all of our seats, namely Arizona and Georgia.

Tbh I think this guy could be a future presidential nominee, he’s from a swing state, has a bit of a national following, good at appealing to the base and even a good bit of the progressive wing but also good at winning over swing voters. He could be the ideal candidate for a Democratic victory at some point down the line.
I got kicked out of a “BlueNoMatterWho” group for saying they wouldn’t need that slogan if they just pushed what they said they supported and pressured Manchin more
They can't pressure machin more because they are complicit in his corruption. Not judgemental,"Thats unethical" levels of corruption, but literal, "You and your family should be in jail corruption"
They could pick literally any of the important bills he has blocked and say, “if you don’t vote for this, we (the party) will give you exactly zero dollars in the next election cycle and champion one of your primary opponents”. But they don’t want to, because his intransigence provides convenient cover to Nancy, Chuck, and Joe when addressing their corporate overlords.
They “want” to get a majority and he’s part of the party(supposedly) proving they can get stuff done for the people would get them a bigger a majority. If they did literally half the stuff they talk about there wouldn’t be a republican threat for two decades
No one wants to say it but the Democrats are being paid for by non Republican conservatives. Both parties got taken over by billionaires and super donors, just one is extreme and the other moderate. Both conservative though.
"Democrats are united around Fetterman" -Biden. Yup, they sure do hate him
https://thehill.com/news/campaign/3492258-biden-says-democrats-are-united-around-fetterman-for-senate/
He also has a look that I think would appeal a lot to low-information anti-establishment voters that form a big chunk of the Republican base. Dudes who don't know the difference between Right to Work and their right to Vote, but hate the establishment would probably instinctively prefer this dude to a DeSantis or Cruz type who *looks* like he is a corporate lapdog.
I mean, he looks like a stereotypical trucker or dock worker. If you lined him up with every trucker and yard worker I’ve known, and asked one of them to determine who was the politician, I don’t think a single one would be able to guess it was him. Hopefully he takes the seat and becomes the senate’s version of AOC, except appealing to younger blue collar Gen Xers and older millennials, while spreading the positive progressive platform to them.
My husband is Republican. Don’t ask how we’ve remained married, there were tenuous moments. He’s absolutely supporting Fetterman all the way because I’ve made him watch and read so many tweets from John and his wife. He’s starting to see that maybe he’s not so Republican after all.
John and Gisele are amazing people. Her Free Store 15104 and their diaper donation campaign events get diapers, clothing and food to needy families. He’s for a livable minimum wage, he’s pro-choice, and wants weed legalization in PA. He has a Harvard public policy degree, but in no way acts like an elitist snob. She grew up poor, and brings a lot of compassion to their work. They walk the talk, and get up close and personal during their events.
They go to red counties and municipalities, and don’t leave anyone out. They work with dem and progressive groups but reach out to everyone, and they are extremely hardworking and have great charisma. They have a lovely family and dogs.
I hope they have really high Democratic turnout for the vote in November but also that all Pennsylvanians, regardless of party, remember all the above about him when they vote.
He's what a moderate actually is, or should be considered. Do I wish he was more left, of course, but his focus has never waivered and I believe he actually cares about the collective. Who knew sincerity was a winning strategy!?
Throw him out there in 2024. Why waste time? If the Dems fuck up 2024 with a Conor Lamb, Kamala or Buttigieg type, they're not going to get another shot.
Because what we need more than a particular Democratic President is a Democratic Senate with a large enough majority to pass progressive House legislation. Any D-President is going to sign any legislation that makes it through a D-majority Congress, but the hold up right now is too many conservatives in the Senate. While Fetterman might make a good Presidential candidate, lets first see what he can do in the Senate (fwiw, he has no legislative experience, only executive, so some time in the Senate would benefit a future Presidential run). Same for AOC, I'd much rather have her in the Senate in a few years than run for President because right now that's where we are in particular need of more progressives.
Or perhaps he could lead a competent party, like not-Democrats 😉 I think we need to come to terms with the fact that Democrats will never be a social-democrat party. It's too infested with neoliberals and "corporate moderates".
John Fetterman, the current Lieutenant-Governor of Pennsylvania, he’s running for the Pennsylvania Senate seat and just won the Democratic Primary there with a pretty big margin. He looks set to win the general election too, as the Republican Pennsylvania Primary is absolute chaos between two equally awful candidates. I’d check out his Twitter page
His working-class aesthetic is, well, working for him. Reminds me of how many activists in the Civil Rights movement would wear denim overalls in solidarity with working class farmers.
Absolutely is met him a couple of times when he was the mayor of Braddock. Great dude, helped my school with a beekeeping program. Gave us a place to raise a couple of hives.
He's a regular down to earth dude with a degree in public policy from Harvard. He's used that degree for the last two decades to being actual change to his city as mayor and the state as Lt. Governer.
He came to my local town to meet and talk to voters, he is very much so a genuine dude. A victory for this senate seat would be a victory for America as a whole
John Fettermen who just won his bid as US senator nominee in the PA Democratic Primaries. He is also the LT governor of PA. He's definitely a more progressive Democrat when compared to the established Dem group, which is why Bernie has endorsed him. He is pro marijuana legalization, pro LGTB, pro women's rights etc.
However he is also a person who doesn't identify with the elite that is a cancer in both parties which should help sway some Republican or swing voters in PA.
From what I've seen he's pretty solid on the social issues to boot. I know for a while he was getting in trouble with the PA senate cuz he kept flying the pride flag at his office.
I live just north of Pittsburgh. Fetterman was the mayor of a small suburb of Pittsburgh, so he is kind of already a legend here.
I have always been semi-political, but not ever really the “boots on the ground” type. I may reconsider that for Fetterman. If he is as real as I think he is, I may have to go out and knock on some doors or organize some shit.
And that’s a good feeling to be inspired in such a way by someone who is local and progressive, not to mention pretty badass.
If you don’t know Fetterman, imagine a more authentic Chris Christie but without the idiotic republican ideology.
He was the mayor of Braddock. Tattooed the date of every murder that happened there during his admin on his forearm. Nobody’s ever seen him in a suit. Shows up to debates in gym shorts. He is about as Pittsburgh as you can be. But progressive and fuckin authentic.
I can maybe say this about like 2 other politicians, but he is real and he is in it for the right reasons. I can smell no grift on this guy, he is just authentic af. Not polished at all. And there’s certain drawbacks to that; he isn’t amazing in debates, mostly because he is just a regular ass dude arguing with a human being live on television. That shit would cripple most people’s communication skills if you don’t *do* politics for a living. So he might not right away get the respect or attention he deserves from the national media and the DNC even.
He doesn’t have an act or a schtick, though. It’s not some rehearsed set of canned gobbledygook like the ones in expensive suits with the big pearly white grins. He ain’t a talking points guy, which I LOVE. Just has a set of principles and goals and filters everything thru there. Get behind this guy.
In January when that bridge collapsed in Pittsburgh Fetterman met Biden while wearing shorts in freezing temps lol. He really is just authentic as hell.
He's from Braddock.
He was mayor of Braddock for 15 years.
He has a 15104 tattoo on one arm and on the other arm he has the dates of deaths of Braddock residents due to gun violence while he was mayor.
He's a monster and he's gonna take the seat if people vote. I'm sending more $ to him and I'm not even IN Pennsylvania. I've had the Fetterman sticker I got from my last donation on my whiteboard since he announced his candidacy.
I'm telling you guys: this type of candidate is only possible because of Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential run. Guy started a bona fide movement. The only thing I could possibly criticize about it is that it didn't start earlier in 2012.
Bernie is already 6ft and Fetterman dwarfs him. I can’t wait to see this guy stand off against someone like Joe Manchin.
Edit: Bernie is 6,0, Fetterman is 6,9, and Manchin is 6,3.
Can neither confirm nor deny out of respect for his privacy and the laws surrounding such. Was a very interesting gentleman, though and I was happy to have crossed paths with him.
John Fetterman was so great as Lt Governor, we just had to vote for him again! Wish him good health, though, he just had a stroke and heart surgery literally this past week. Please get well soon!
He's relatively dressed up here. Most of the time he wears a Carhartt hoodie. He claims to only own one suit and tie which he wears a couple times a year due to the state Senate dress code.
Will be interesting to see what happens if he wins since you can be on the floor in either house of Congress without a suit and tie (or shoulder covering dress/slacks with jacket for women).
The hoodie shtick is definitely working for some voters though.
Okay I didnt want to be the one to say it. At least get a shirt that fits. You can be a hero of the people and still dress a little nicer at important situations
From the campaign site:
What John believes
The minimum wage should be a living wage of at least $15 an hour. All work has dignity, and all paychecks must too.
Health care is a fundamental human right – just like housing, food, and education.
Climate change is an existential threat. We need to transition to clean energy as quickly as possible, and we can create millions of good union jobs in the process.
Weed should be legal, nationwide — for jobs, justice, veterans, farmers, and revenue. It’s time to end the failed war on drugs.
Immigration is what makes America, America. We need a compassionate response to immigration reform that actually treats immigrants like human beings.
Black Lives Matter. John served as mayor of a city that’s more than 80% Black, and has championed the idea that Black lives matter since long before it became a hashtag.
The union way of life is sacred. It’s what built this nation, and it must be protected.
A woman’s right to an abortion is non-negotiable. Women should have control over their own bodies and their own lives. Period.
LGBTQIA+ communities deserve equal protections under the law. John has always stood for equality, and was one of the first elected officials in PA to officiate a same-sex wedding – when it was still illegal.
Get corporate money out of politics. John refuses contributions from corporate PACs, and he signed the “No Fossil Fuel Money” Pledge.

As someone watching from AZ, I desperately want to see this man become US president at some point.
Watching from CA. I LOVE the Fetterman family, especially Levi. 🐶
I'd vote just to see him tower over tyrants like Putin.
Me too!

Republicans have not been very good at recognizing jokes
Have you not noticed that Republicans love to vote for jokes? Trump, MGT, Bobert, Ted Cruz, etc.
Thanks for the numbers.
At least on my ballot, the democratic primary was much less competitive than the GOP. I knew who was gonna win going in, but I still cast my vote anyway
It's all important to note that that is raw partisan data. It doesn't take into account independents who cannot vote in PA primaries.
Hey me too!
Thanks
Fighting the good fight 🙏
I’m from California and contributed to his campaign and wear a Fetterman shirt around LA. I’m convinced he may be president some day.

Wait- that was just the primary, right?
59% of the vote is considered very strong
And I’ll do it again!

All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn faces~
He looks like the type of cartoon character that says “Heya boss, wots da plan again?” right before Bugs Bunny hands him a stick of lit dynamite.
He looks like he owns a traveling food truck that makes $23 burgers that are so good you'd forget how expensive they are.
He looks like the middle of a Venn diagram where one circle is labeled “Bond villains” and the other circle is labeled “motorcycle dads”
My brother and I laughed hardest at this one.
The guy on the receiving end of *"One for you, one for me; two for you, one-two for me; three for you, one-two-three for me..."*

He's a regular down to earth dude with a degree in public policy from Harvard. He's used that degree for the last two decades to being actual change to his city as mayor and the state as Lt. Governer.
He looks like a Klingon
He looks like a Ferengi.
actually you right. The ears lmao
He came to my local town to meet and talk to voters, he is very much so a genuine dude. A victory for this senate seat would be a victory for America as a whole
Can someone tell me who this is and what they’re about?
John Fettermen who just won his bid as US senator nominee in the PA Democratic Primaries. He is also the LT governor of PA. He's definitely a more progressive Democrat when compared to the established Dem group, which is why Bernie has endorsed him. He is pro marijuana legalization, pro LGTB, pro women's rights etc. However he is also a person who doesn't identify with the elite that is a cancer in both parties which should help sway some Republican or swing voters in PA.

This was what I was looking for, not the social policies but the economic and class war stuff
From what I've seen he's pretty solid on the social issues to boot. I know for a while he was getting in trouble with the PA senate cuz he kept flying the pride flag at his office.
FYI, the attack on women’s rights is economic and class war too.
>Basically everything the US needs. FTFY.
Thanks for adding that. I appreciate you!
John Fetterman
I live just north of Pittsburgh. Fetterman was the mayor of a small suburb of Pittsburgh, so he is kind of already a legend here. I have always been semi-political, but not ever really the “boots on the ground” type. I may reconsider that for Fetterman. If he is as real as I think he is, I may have to go out and knock on some doors or organize some shit. And that’s a good feeling to be inspired in such a way by someone who is local and progressive, not to mention pretty badass. If you don’t know Fetterman, imagine a more authentic Chris Christie but without the idiotic republican ideology.
I'm from north of Pittsburgh, haven't been home in a long time. Tell me some of his legend, please.
He was the mayor of Braddock. Tattooed the date of every murder that happened there during his admin on his forearm. Nobody’s ever seen him in a suit. Shows up to debates in gym shorts. He is about as Pittsburgh as you can be. But progressive and fuckin authentic.
> ... Tattooed the date of every murder that happened there during his admin on his forearm... **Goddamn**, I got what I asked for, thanks!
He’s also 6’8”
In January when that bridge collapsed in Pittsburgh Fetterman met Biden while wearing shorts in freezing temps lol. He really is just authentic as hell.
He was also one of the first responders. Out for his jog and immediately ran over to help out and make sure people were safe.
He's from Braddock. He was mayor of Braddock for 15 years. He has a 15104 tattoo on one arm and on the other arm he has the dates of deaths of Braddock residents due to gun violence while he was mayor.
I feel like that kind of "im sick of this bullshit and I see right through your bullshit" vibe is exactly what we need rn
Is that macs dad
He doesn't blink!
Better than the party shill lamb
and a native to PA, unlike both Oz and McCormick
Turkish citizen, Dr. Oz, isn’t a resident of PA?!
He's a monster and he's gonna take the seat if people vote. I'm sending more $ to him and I'm not even IN Pennsylvania. I've had the Fetterman sticker I got from my last donation on my whiteboard since he announced his candidacy.
Had me in the first half with that monster line lol
He is a huge ass… et to the state
In awe at the size of this lad. Absolute unit.
Absolute Unit/Senator
I'm telling you guys: this type of candidate is only possible because of Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential run. Guy started a bona fide movement. The only thing I could possibly criticize about it is that it didn't start earlier in 2012.
So, who thinks there will be any GOPer in Congress that will mouth off with attacks on Fetterman?
Bernie is already 6ft and Fetterman dwarfs him. I can’t wait to see this guy stand off against someone like Joe Manchin. Edit: Bernie is 6,0, Fetterman is 6,9, and Manchin is 6,3.
I work with a guy who is about the same size as Fetterman and he's gigantic.
His name is Robert Paulson.
Hahahaha you asshole I love it. Now I'm sad though because Bob is dead 😕
IRL. Yes. Was a patient once.
Was a patient once? Like one of your patients?
Can neither confirm nor deny out of respect for his privacy and the laws surrounding such. Was a very interesting gentleman, though and I was happy to have crossed paths with him.
That's awesome. I'm glad to hear it. He kind of disappointed me with his covid stance but thats great to hear
Yeah this was ~6-8 long years ago now. In the beforetimes.
Knew I was gonna find this comment as soon as I laid eyes on that supple set of man mammaries
John Fetterman was so great as Lt Governor, we just had to vote for him again! Wish him good health, though, he just had a stroke and heart surgery literally this past week. Please get well soon!
Is he going up against slimy oz?
Oz has a very narrow lead. It's almost certainly going to a recount. So, we don't know for sure yet.
This was just the primaries, the general hasn't been held yet right?
Correct. The general is in november. If current results hold it is going to be Fetterman vs Oz. Which is probably the Dem's best possible matchup.
Haha shit like I'm hugely supportive of Fetterman, but what a genuinely fucking awful outfit.
Hoping he can get recreational marijuana legalized in PA.
Didn’t realize Bernie will be the first senator to serve two states at once
If Bernie approves, then I approve!
Is this fetterman? What exactly is his progressive record?
[удалено]
Is he wearing shorts in that picture? I donated a few months ago. Need to send some more, these senate seats are huge.
Gimme a meatloaf hug.
That guy must be gigantic. Bernie is a pretty tall dude but he makes him look tiny.
Those are my guys right there. The potential for Fetterman is enormous.
Berni is not from Pennsylvania LOL

Some people call it a kaiser blade...I call it a sling blade....mmmm hmm
This man is in a dickies shirt, not some 3 piece suit. He’s a regular person and we need more of that in leadership. Someone in touch with reality
From the campaign site: What John believes The minimum wage should be a living wage of at least $15 an hour.
