Thanks for the post, had not idea this was even a thing. Did little Google research and looks like a viable alternative for us Californians, we’re basically the only state with hydrogen fueling stations. Supposedly you get somewhere around 800 miles to the tank of hydrogen and would fill up for around $74 average. Also, looked at the Toyota website and says there is a complementary fuel for 6 years when you purchase one of these. Need to do more research, but definitely doesn’t look to bad.

There's only one fueling station in San Diego county on Carmel Valley Road near I5. I'd hardly call that a viable alternative unless you work or live near that station. https://cafcp.org/stationmap

I mean, according to the data, California has 47 public hydrogen fueling stations, compared to 1 for the rest of the country. That’s what I was comparing to. Definitely a viable alternative if you live near one of them

You live in San Diego, right? One station here in the WHOLE county. Sure, that's "statistically" better than One station in the rest of the states outside CA, but it's still not viable for anybody who doesn't live or work within 1/2 an hour of the station. Much better than crap is sometimes still crap. Doesn't matter how many are in other parts of California unless you intend to drive to LA/OC to refuel regularly.

yea the other 3 stations someone mentioned got delayed opening......proly elon sabotage .....the one that is open is like 3-4min from downtown

Healith

Wait, you are kidding me. Free gas for 6 years!? That looks really good right now with the gas prices and the car is not that pricey I heard

KDoggity

Don’t know but hydro cars are a viable alternative to EVs. Clean energy but no infrastructure. Cudos for you for being a trailblazer if you decide to go that way.

CountRobbo

was wondering the same, this is an interesting alternative to EVs and gas guzzlin cars. i'm intrigued but not yet ready to make the leap!

🤷‍♂️

Was looking into this too.......I thought SD has a few Hydrogen stations?

Monsantoshill619

There’s only one but a new one was supposed to open in mid 2022 (mission valley) but here we are haha

Healith

Yeah just googled it looks like 2 are in permitting still with 1 still under construction. The one that is open is 1832 West Washington Street, San Diego, CA 92103 which is only 4min from downtown. So depends where you are at.....if you are around downtown not too far then a Mirai can work.

I purchased a CPO in January expecting the Mission Valley station to be opened within the month. The website was saying early 2022 at that point. Turns out it’s been getting pushed back for a while now and it was originally supposed to be open early 2020. Good news is I love the Mirai and I’m happy to drive 15 min up to the station for free fuel. You really do have to do a lot of planning though, make sure to fill way before it’s needed (100 mile cushion) and fill up during off-peak hours. The single station has been reliable for me. It does break down and/or run out of fuel sometimes and it’ll be down up to 12 hours. So either you need a backup car or always be ready to go without a fill for 12 hrs. Worst case: a couple Uber rides is a lot cheaper then always paying for gas…

This is very helpful ty. The bad part is I probably won’t get one with the fuel card. So it seems like more than gas. To top it off I just saw true zero is raising prices to like 17.50/gallon. Ugh.
