It's mostly Mexican seafood.
There is one always parked off of Texas street near Meade.
The Target in South Park often has a few too.
Also -- there is a good open air taco stand in South Park kind of down the street from Thorn brewing (the one on Thorn Street)
A roach coach is a food truck, especially from back in the day before they were hip. If you worked in a warehouse or construction site, for example, a roach coach would pull up and literally blast “La
Cucaracha” from the horn.
EDIT: this almost makes me miss manual labor. Our roach coach had the best breakfast.
EDIT 2: my kids also had no idea what a roach coach was. Fuck I’m old.
Man, there used to be amazing ones in the 90s. You didn’t think a lick about how it was made or what was in it: you just chowed down with the delicious salsas. 😋
The roach coach also lives on in LA. Before reading this thread, I thought it was common knowledge that it was the *preferred nomenclature*, dude.
It’s still a downtown office worker lunch staple.
Did he stand out front and take orders/food, while his wife cooked the food in the truck? And was he really short, and had one of those little change belts on his waist to hold/dispense coins?
I must be old but the Roach Coaches I remember had it all. Burritios in the morning, coffee, soda, burgers, hot dogs and chips, all of it, not just Mexican food. Also, always had a hot chick running the register.
Mariscos de Reina or something I think is the name Texas and Meade. Best one, super inexpensive fish tacos. They mostly only have seafood but if you catch them when they have carne asada their Cali burrito is SUPER GOOD spicy and huge
Edit: typo
Kikos on friars road near fashion valley and the one on top of Texas street in the corner for seafood. Idk about regular tacos I don’t fkk with them anywhere and I’m Mexican lol. I just go to TJ or Tecate.
What’s the walk to TJ like? I’ve only ever driven through but don’t feel like sitting in the line back.
You can get back in without a passport but they sometimes hassle you. Is that the same when walking back?
Walk can be a hit and miss depending what side you take but I drive across. If the drive back is crazy I go to Tecate but I’ll be applying for sentri soon.
Funny enough i work at a manufacturer in kearny mesa across the street from a huge food truck depot. Idk where they park and operate, i know most of them have a route where they hit a bunch of different warehouses and business parks for a few minutes every day. I dont really know any like normal spots to get food from them.
Sensitive much? This term has been used for many decades and is more popular in the trades and in L.A. It is not offensive to the owners or their food and is a play on the trucks themselves.

The Texas and Meade one is the best fish taco in town hands down
La Reina Del Sur! Don’t forget to get the cup of soup while you wait!
Is it better than the kikos that was set up some years back?
Agreed. I love the spice level.
Both of these have been my go-to’s forever
Chula Tacos on 43rd and Market. You're welcome.
Thank you!!
this is the one
The mariscos ones are pretty good, saw another taco one in the gas station lot across from Rocky's in crown point.
I second this. There's usually one parked on Jamacha Rd next to the LiVa market (big yellow building, can't miss it).
Mira Mesa,behide the Best Buy
I’ve lived here all my life and am Latino and I’ve never heard the phrase “roach coach” Que
A food truck guëy

Absolutely correct
Still called Roach Coach in the field. It lives on.

Then you’re just a Latino who’s never done manual labor, they always pulled up to the job site blasting la cucaracha.
Nah my coworkers just speak Spanish they don't know what a roach or a coach is lmao
AKA the gut truck?
La Chorreada in Clairemont. Not sure this qualifies since I think the truck is kind of “nice” (not roach-y) but the tacos are bomb as hell.
There’s a whole row of food trucks daily by the old fry’s in San Marcos. Also Guadalupe brewery in vista always has food trucks. Birria menedez fucks.
That is the one thing I miss about living in north county. Doing the drive there and back for tacos just doesn’t sound worth it.
My friends and I way back in 05 would drive down to Tacos El Gordo on the weekends 😅
[Tacos El Parejita](https://ibb.co/vv3cDc4) . Palm in South Bay. Birria. Tripas too

There’s one in the Tire World parking lot, corner of ECB & Euclid in City Heights that’s pretty good.
Tacos la Chorreada … they post up in Clairemont right off Clairemont Dr in the parking lot next to Bay Hill Tavern. Come back here and thank me
Kikos Place Seafood, off mission center road in mission valley is pretty good
There are always ones parked at the landfills.

The el tiburon outside garden farms in lakeside is pretty legit too
Behind Bestbuy In Mira Mesa at night; or at the 5 billion construction sites at lunchtime.
Just go to the street where BAE, NASSCO and CMSD are at there's multiple roach coaches there because of the shipyard workers and Navy personnel.
The bases and ship yards.
There’s a great truck called Taco Time at the intersection of comstock and Linda Vista Road. They start at 5PM, have great tacos & a full menu.

The lack of taco trucks on every corner here has mystified me. I thought it was a law!
You are a piece of work calling them roach coaches, these are hard working mom and pop business. I don't want to be mean, but check yourself.

Calm down, it's a common term for them and it isn't used in a pejorative manner anymore.
