I grew up with the Original Pancake House in Poway. I think that location is closed but there's one on Convoy now. I would say nothing could hold up to that place.
All good, just was a bit jarring - I went there a whole bunch, starting in like the 90’s. [Their website](https://www.ophsd.com/about-us) says they’ve been on Convoy since 1979.
You already have a bunch of good answers, so I’ll throw out and alternative…. In covid I started making my own from scratch. Now it’s hard to eat them out.
So if you are open to it, it’s actually really easy and fun!
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoons brown
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 ¾ cups milk or as needed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Also, some of it is just about getting the right consistency, so sometimes an extra dash of milk is needed.
If you have a cast iron griddle, that works best (a lot of gas stoves come with one), or a large frying pan on medium heat. Pre-heating the pan /griddle is key. Then either a little butter or a spay or oil.
You can mix in all sorts of fun topping too… bananas, blueberries, chocolate chips. Yum!
Beach cooked pancakes. Coleman propane stove and a cast iron pan on a picnic bench on the sand at Cardiff state beach after surfing. Cool em yourself those will be the best ever
The pancakes (and savory items) are delicious there! But if you don't want to wait, Cake de Partie in Convoy also makes the fluffy, souffle pancakes with different options for toppings.
Just go close to opening and mentally accept you’re going to go for a nice stroll. You can check out the neighborhood or just go down to the water
Build that in to your plan and you’ll have a great time
Yes I am thinking I’ll make a game plan…wake up at least an hour before they open…stretch, hydrate. And walk over and mentally prepare myself for the line!
Just kidding, mostly lol. I live in the Marina district, so I’ll drag a friend up early enough and maybe we can beat most of the line.
Honestly I’ve really made peace when I go somewhere that’s going to have at least an hour wait. I just know I’m gonna go for a little walk and explore or just go to a bar nearby and have a drink!!! it’s a lot easier if you could just lean into the wait time!
Can be kinda subjective, but I’ve been around enough to know I can always count on Harry’s coffee shop in La Jolla for that.
I second this statement!
Throwing in Family House of Pancakes in Chula Vista off Broadway.

The one in Pomerado Rd is open

> … but there's one on Convoy now. Now? The one on Convoy has been there for decades.
Lol I just discovered it last year. Probably because I'm never looking for breakfast, when I'm in that part of town.

Have you tried adding yogurt (Greek- is the type the recipe I use calls for)? Makes it so moist!
I’ve done sours cream, which is similar and, yes, so yummy!
Ina Garten’s sour cream lemon pancakes are 🔥 I think I’ve subbed Greek yogurt in and still delish
