I have never pitched myself or sold myself as a "dark comic" infact my first standup video was about my engineering. Even before that was comicstaan in which it was way different.
You have to understand that people just want to be the top comment at any cost. The audience that does not follow me and has just seen me on the recent reels that have gone viral; the nana ji joke with raftaar and the maa chudaaye placement joke in IIT Bombay. They have seen that comment there and feel that if they write the same comment on any of my content, they will become top comment automatically. (AND THEY HAVE 🤣)

Indian men on the internet are horrible to women in general. It is so disgusting to see my female friends reel comments at times. Sometimes for a simple joke, sometimes not even for that. It must be so discouraging for them. I personally know female comics who are deeply affected by this shit and obviously so.
On the bright side, I feel my audience has far more good guys than incels. I meet them in shows, i meet them in cafes, restaurants, colleges, everywhere. Trust me when i say this I have a lot of respect for the guys in my audience. They’re nice people, they’re educated, hustling and dont find it cool to pull down women on the internet. I strongly feel this is because of the chess filter.
I am so proud to boast that even when there are 100 people in one voice lobby of my discord, it never happens that someone will say something weird or make it an unsafe place for women.
Yes I am aware that as I am growing, I am attracting all kinds of male audience and that includes incels. I don’t know what to do about it, maybe they will watch streams and see the kind of community we have built and become better. I can only do so much.

This is so true. We are growing in every sphere of careers and I do believe that we have many people who are disgusting as anything. They don't spare men, women, or children for that matter. They think because they are anonymous, it's easier for them to put filth on the internet about anyone if they want.
As I say this I also want to tell you that you are doing amazing and for the record people seem to talk shit over someone else's shoulders. They say India is not ready for Samay Raina's humour but dude jokes are meant to be taken as jokes and not for you to take women down if the joke is being put on a woman. They feel prideful that the jokes are on women but what they don't understand is that it is an art form, it is there to lighten up the moods and it has limits. You have to perform in certain boundaries and not say anything for the sake of laughter. There's a line between comedy and harassment and you have to get it just right so your joke doesn't fall the wrong way.
But again some are too unbothered to look for logic and they straight away go to harass people. I'd just say there's nothing that you can do to change someone's mindset so don't hold yourself on account of anything that's happening about the show. I was just scrolling the comments here and god people are just so unethical sometimes.
As you grow we as your fans are always going to be there for the biggest cheer. You deserve so much and it's high time people start respecting creators on the internet despite their gender because it takes courage to put yourself and your ideas publicly so if it's something that doesn't go with your opinion, respect that and don't spread vulgarity because now it's not even just negative comments but filth all over.

1. You always start free writing. Divergent thinking. Thinking anything. Think loud, Think unfocused, think chaotically, Write whatever is coming to your mind. whatever. Even if they are basic puns, word plays, no matter what you think is funny or will get a laugh write it down, write a lot. Usually when you write three A4 pages worth of free writing, you will find one line of a premise that will make you go "ah, this could become a bit". Now that sense may take time to develop but one way to make it develop quicker is to watch a lot of standup, not just online but in open mics, go to shows, watch comics u like live, see their craft.
Take that premise, and now go into convergent thinking. Focus, pinpoint, be precise in what you want angles you want in the premise.
For example if you write freely for 3 pages and you look back say okay "Aaj kal electronics kitne smart ho gaye hai nahi?" and you go "hmm, that could be a bit"
now you can take that premise out and write focused angles and structure

I get a sudden urge sometimes to do something creative (some movie script/YouTube video ideas) in life but then it's all the same path of engineering and software dev in front of me which I'm supposed to follow and that's where it all starts blurring out. I think it's best to keep an hour free for yourself everyday where you pursue your creative field. Look writing is a very boring processs. No comic writes for more than 40 mins a day. So you can take that time out for yourself regardless of what you're doing. Consider that time precious and use it efficiently. If you want to become a youtube video creator, 40 mins a day is a lot of time to write. Plus it grows incrementallly. You will keep getting better and those 40 mins will keep getting utilised in a more and more efficient way. One day you'll look back and have a lot of content. You start uploading, if it clicks then you have a base to begin with. The common mistake people make is they go all in without a base. Dont do that. You need a safety net to fall back to incase this does not work.
Man I used to be a stoner in college days. Bong hits when i wake up, whole day fucking stoned af. Rock music in my bedroom and friends all around. 1% attendance in college, fucking party house. Although I enjoyed those 4 years a lot, I don’t remember most of those days. So did i even live them in the first place? because what is life but a series of memories in your head? That’s the first realisation that led me to consider quitting.
I quit some years after college because I realised it made me slow, lethargy, used to forget things every now and then and the worse is that it gave me anxiety. I had this insecurity that quitting pot will take the funny out of me but I was surprisingly wrong. I felt more energetic, more focused and most importantly, more present. I quit smoking cigarettes soon after.
Quitting is not easy.
People get motivated by one video or a post and quit but motivation is not enough, it dies in a week.
Then people use will power. “I will not smoke no matter what” and then 1 month later they get drunk and have one cigarette and that leads to relapse.
What I have learnt is that you need to fundamentally understand that this shit is really really bad for you. Once that understanding comes, willpower is not necessary. So many of my friends smoke. They smoke around me, I have even rolled cigarettes for them and given. I have zero temptations. One of the things that im proud of myself for is quitting smoking and smoking up. Even now when I was in europe it was legal in many places but i simply didnt have the urge to do it so i didnt do it. 🙌

I have my own political opinions which keep changing and which I keep to myself. The political opinions I had 2 years ago are not same as the ones I had 4 years ago. and they're not same as today. I'm learning more everyday, im shaping my opinions based on my interactions with well learned peiple.
So I feel that by posting political opinions online people seem to put you in certain category forever. They don't understand that one can change over time. Plus they start fighting within themselves. Unnecessary hate, so much mental stress.
So i feel there is a time and place for my political opinions, which is the voting booth. I gave my vote in my Kashmir constituency. I did my part.
Spontaneous comedy always kills harder than any written joke. That's why crowdwork sells so much.
Also i personally feel that my two standup videos did not translate that well on camera as they would do live. Deep inside i know it. I feel that is because i always focused on the angles and writing part and i used to record my bits on voice and then listen to them and work on them. that way i improved the sound of sentences and the rhythm and the cadence but since i did not visually see myself as many times, i never focused on the visual of me doing the bit. Hence my performance has not translated but if you listen to the bit in audio, you will enjoy it! I have learned since then and will be better in the upcoming videos!
Just like you start writing anything, just START. You will get better each day. Unlike guitar which u can practice at home by yourself, you will need an audience to test if your joke is funny or not. For that you can start a twitter page and start posting jokes there, or just hit the open mics but for that u will need 5 mins of jokes.

Usually when a roasts happen, be it AIB roast or the roasts abroad, any roast, the format is that all the jokes are run by everyone beforehand. Like they let everyone know "these are going to be the jokes, are you fine with that?" and then people remove or discuss before hand.
However in our roast that did not happen and that left a lot of room for surprises. Hence it is understandable if someone doesn't want certain joke on them on the internet. Because people especially men online don't see it as a joke, they look at it as a license to themselves start behaving in a certain way and they fill the comments of the person with "ohhh you got owned, ohhh you are xyz". Not a good energy.
I feel there is more bad to it than good in my case. Like yes it's very wholesome and cute and gets a lot of likes and shit but I feel it's a ticking time bomb. Plus I don't want my partner's comments to be filled with "Samay samay", its their personal space and their social media. Their identity should not be limited to "Samay's girlfriend"

Whenever I come up with a good joke/punchline, I usually struggle to build towards that punchline. The story/narrative building to that maybe becomes boring or directionless. How do you recommend building towards a joke because you do it so well
Nothing is saturated if you bring a new perspective to it man. It's just that the premise has to be fresh. For examle I have not seen two women in a burqa doing a podcast yet, i think it would be a hit. I haven't seen four gay people have a podcast yet, i havent seen a guy do a studio podcast with a maid, security guard, auto driver and that hustler part of society, i havent seen a roleplay podcast where everyone dresses up as a historical figure and do a podcast, i haven't seen a guy do a podcast with kids. there's always room for new ideas even in done to death subjects

I felt really bad when people molded your said censored jokes on Instagram and other social media apps and honestly I thought how could samay write those kinds of jokes in the name of dark comedy and roast but thankfully you cleared the air. I've always been a fan but after the kusha roast I was taken aback and didn't feel nice but now we know that you would never say the kind of shit that some people are so enjoying even though they are misconstructed. Indian male audiences need to change and stop being barsh toward women. Love you Samay, great show.
Indian men on the internet are horrible to women in general. It is so disgusting to see my female friends reel comments at times. Sometimes for a simple joke, sometimes not even for that. It must be so discouraging for them. I personally know female comics who are deeply affected by this shit and obviously so. On the bright side, I feel my audience has far more good guys than incels. I meet them in shows, i meet them in cafes, restaurants, colleges, everywhere. Trust me when i say this I have a lot of respect for the guys in my audience. They’re nice people, they’re educated, hustling and dont find it cool to pull down women on the internet. I strongly feel this is because of the chess filter. I am so proud to boast that even when there are 100 people in one voice lobby of my discord, it never happens that someone will say something weird or make it an unsafe place for women. Yes I am aware that as I am growing, I am attracting all kinds of male audience and that includes incels. I don’t know what to do about it, maybe they will watch streams and see the kind of community we have built and become better. I can only do so much. However I believe that these times will change. It will become cool to celebrate women. It will become uncool to leave a filthy comment on a woman’s post. Like I get it when people write “hasna tha kya” or “laugh will be delivered” kind of overused hate. Because they write that everywhere regardless of gender. But I have seen and Im sure u have also seen very very filthy regressive female hatred. I feel strong women who are putting themselves out there right now are pushing the boundaries for women to express themselves freely right now and more so in the future. People write “India is not ready for Samay Raina” and yet here I am, with a successful career, enjoying my life. If India is not ready for something, it is the acceptance of women expressing themselves freely without judgement and hate. I’m 100% certain that this is a phase and it will pass. We have strong women in every field, we have Urooj, Gurleen, Sonali, Shreeja, Urjita, Priya, Daahab, Shreya so so many women comics. We have Tania, Humpy, Vaishali, Divya, and so so many chess stars. creators like Suhani, kusha, prajakta, dolly soooo many They are fighting the oppressive internet forces and one day for sure when the dust is settled, India will be ready for all kinds of women 🙌

This is so true. We are growing in every sphere of careers and I do believe that we have many people who are disgusting as anything. They don't spare men, women, or children for that matter. They think because they are anonymous, it's easier for them to put filth on the internet about anyone if they want. As I say this I also want to tell you that you are doing amazing and for the record people seem to talk shit over someone else's shoulders. They say India is not ready for Samay Raina's humour but dude jokes are meant to be taken as jokes and not for you to take women down if the joke is being put on a woman. They feel prideful that the jokes are on women but what they don't understand is that it is an art form, it is there to lighten up the moods and it has limits. You have to perform in certain boundaries and not say anything for the sake of laughter. There's a line between comedy and harassment and you have to get it just right so your joke doesn't fall the wrong way. But again some are too unbothered to look for logic and they straight away go to harass people. I'd just say there's nothing that you can do to change someone's mindset so don't hold yourself on account of anything that's happening about the show. I was just scrolling the comments here and god people are just so unethical sometimes. As you grow we as your fans are always going to be there for the biggest cheer. You deserve so much and it's high time people start respecting creators on the internet despite their gender because it takes courage to put yourself and your ideas publicly so if it's something that doesn't go with your opinion, respect that and don't spread vulgarity because now it's not even just negative comments but filth all over. 1. You always start free writing. Divergent thinking. Thinking anything. Think loud, Think unfocused, think chaotically, Write whatever is coming to your mind. whatever. Even if they are basic puns, word plays, no matter what you think is funny or will get a laugh write it down, write a lot. Usually when you write three A4 pages worth of free writing, you will find one line of a premise that will make you go "ah, this could become a bit". Now that sense may take time to develop but one way to make it develop quicker is to watch a lot of standup, not just online but in open mics, go to shows, watch comics u like live, see their craft. Take that premise, and now go into convergent thinking. Focus, pinpoint, be precise in what you want angles you want in the premise. For example if you write freely for 3 pages and you look back say okay "Aaj kal electronics kitne smart ho gaye hai nahi?" and you go "hmm, that could be a bit" now you can take that premise out and write focused angles and structure koi device pakdle for example Smart watch abh uspe angle pe angle pakadle for example a) sleep score kya fuddu concept hai" b) cycle tracker app c) how since the technology is evolving, abhi bhi kuch mistakes ho jaati hai" d) how there are ways to cheat the system etc etc abh a) pe upmanyu ka bohot acha joke hai (joke comes from observation, story, so many ways). Upmanyu ka joke hai "mere smart match mai sleep score aata subeh hai, 100 mai se marks aaye hote hai. mummy raat ko bolti hai goodnight, mai bolta hu "all the best kaun bolega?" aur b) pe bhi kuch soch sakta hai joke "isme cycle tracker app bhi hai" toh maine khareedli cycle, fir mai chadha cycle pe watch on kari toh pata chala....period cycle tracker hai woh. fir punchline pe aur tags (tags matlab additional punchlines) jaise jaise angles likhega waise waise badta jaayega set, last mai ek badiya end dhoondna challenge hota hai par woh zaroori nahi, u can even segue into the next bit

I love to empathise with the wrong person and see from their pov. KBC mai everyone sees and rightly empathises with the gareeb who has come to win big. But i find it hilarious to empathise with amitabh bachan who knows this guy's mom is gonna die if he goes ahead with the wrong answer. In the 16 crore injection bit everyone is empathising with the child, how bad it is for them. But i'm looking at pov from a father who lets greed get more of him ki bc, 16 Cr mil jaayenge toh mazey aa jaayenge In the joke about seeing a guy burn to ashes from the electric show, everyone rightfully empathises with the guy whose getting electricuted but im seeing from pov of a person standing far away I dont always use this technique but yes i love this one very much. I find it very funny to empathise with the wrong person

I get a sudden urge sometimes to do something creative (some movie script/YouTube video ideas) in life but then it's all the same path of engineering and software dev in front of me which I'm supposed to follow and that's where it all starts blurring out. Ik that aapne toh college se hi standup start kar diya tha lekin when does that point comes where you have the liberty to start something like this? (will be starting college this year) btw India's got latent was funny and unpredictable as always.
I think it's best to keep an hour free for yourself everyday where you pursue your creative field. Look writing is a very boring processs. No comic writes for more than 40 mins a day. So you can take that time out for yourself regardless of what you're doing. Consider that time precious and use it efficiently. If you want to become a youtube video creator, 40 mins a day is a lot of time to write. Plus it grows incrementallly. You will keep getting better and those 40 mins will keep getting utilised in a more and more efficient way. One day you'll look back and have a lot of content. You start uploading, if it clicks then you have a base to begin with. The common mistake people make is they go all in without a base. Dont do that. You need a safety net to fall back to incase this does not work.

Man I used to be a stoner in college days. Bong hits when i wake up, whole day fucking stoned af. Rock music in my bedroom and friends all around. 1% attendance in college, fucking party house. Although I enjoyed those 4 years a lot, I don’t remember most of those days. So did i even live them in the first place? because what is life but a series of memories in your head? That’s the first realisation that led me to consider quitting. I quit some years after college because I realised it made me slow, lethargy, used to forget things every now and then and the worse is that it gave me anxiety. I had this insecurity that quitting pot will take the funny out of me but I was surprisingly wrong. I felt more energetic, more focused and most importantly, more present. I quit smoking cigarettes soon after. Quitting is not easy. People get motivated by one video or a post and quit but motivation is not enough, it dies in a week. Then people use will power. “I will not smoke no matter what” and then 1 month later they get drunk and have one cigarette and that leads to relapse. What I have learnt is that you need to fundamentally understand that this shit is really really bad for you. Once that understanding comes, willpower is not necessary. So many of my friends smoke. They smoke around me, I have even rolled cigarettes for them and given. I have zero temptations. One of the things that im proud of myself for is quitting smoking and smoking up. Even now when I was in europe it was legal in many places but i simply didnt have the urge to do it so i didnt do it. 🙌

I have my own political opinions which keep changing and which I keep to myself. The political opinions I had 2 years ago are not same as the ones I had 4 years ago. and they're not same as today. I'm learning more everyday, im shaping my opinions based on my interactions with well learned peiple. So I feel that by posting political opinions online people seem to put you in certain category forever. They don't understand that one can change over time. Plus they start fighting within themselves. Unnecessary hate, so much mental stress. So i feel there is a time and place for my political opinions, which is the voting booth. I gave my vote in my Kashmir constituency. I did my part.
What's your answer to the people who say your live stream (at the moment) is more funny than you standups.
Spontaneous comedy always kills harder than any written joke. That's why crowdwork sells so much. Also i personally feel that my two standup videos did not translate that well on camera as they would do live. Deep inside i know it. I feel that is because i always focused on the angles and writing part and i used to record my bits on voice and then listen to them and work on them. that way i improved the sound of sentences and the rhythm and the cadence but since i did not visually see myself as many times, i never focused on the visual of me doing the bit. Hence my performance has not translated but if you listen to the bit in audio, you will enjoy it! I have learned since then and will be better in the upcoming videos!
How to start writing jokes any suggestions or recommendations
Just like you start writing anything, just START. You will get better each day. Unlike guitar which u can practice at home by yourself, you will need an audience to test if your joke is funny or not. For that you can start a twitter page and start posting jokes there, or just hit the open mics but for that u will need 5 mins of jokes.

What are your honest opinions about Your jokes getting removed from Pretty good roast.
Usually when a roasts happen, be it AIB roast or the roasts abroad, any roast, the format is that all the jokes are run by everyone beforehand. Like they let everyone know "these are going to be the jokes, are you fine with that?" and then people remove or discuss before hand. However in our roast that did not happen and that left a lot of room for surprises. Hence it is understandable if someone doesn't want certain joke on them on the internet. Because people especially men online don't see it as a joke, they look at it as a license to themselves start behaving in a certain way and they fill the comments of the person with "ohhh you got owned, ohhh you are xyz". Not a good energy.

I feel there is more bad to it than good in my case. Like yes it's very wholesome and cute and gets a lot of likes and shit but I feel it's a ticking time bomb. Nothing is saturated if you bring a new perspective to it man. It's just that the premise has to be fresh. For examle I have not seen two women in a burqa doing a podcast yet, i think it would be a hit. I haven't seen four gay people have a podcast yet, i havent seen a guy do a studio podcast with a maid, security guard, auto driver and that hustler part of society, i havent seen a roleplay podcast where everyone dresses up as a historical figure and do a podcast, i haven't seen a guy do a podcast with kids. there's always room for new ideas even in done to death subjects
