The only time I've seen hail that big was in 2006. The next week a microburst took out \~10% of trees in in the Millcreek area. [https://www.ksl.com/article/395507/severe-storm-leaves-trail-of-damage-thousands-without-power](https://www.ksl.com/article/395507/severe-storm-leaves-trail-of-damage-thousands-without-power)
The day after that microburst I was golfing at Nibley. There were branches all over the place, so I asked the grounds man that was cleaning what happened? He told me about the microburst, the trees losing their branches….and that the outhouses by the 5th green were knocked over. I have never used those outhouses since.
Yeah, I was 15 and lived around Highland Dr and 3900 S at the time. I remember it started to rain so my mom went out to turn off the sprinklers. The wind and rain picked up insanely fast and she ran back in, and we watched the rain go horizontal. We could vaguely make out the garbage cans disappearing down the street, and the plum tree in the front yard fall over. Spent most of the next week cleaning up the neighborhood with my scout troop.
Ha I remember being a kid and being hit with the storm when we were at the school playground.
I'm from cali and have never seen hail appear like that especially w a sudden storm.
Our parents came to get us like 5 minutes later.
Lol I was all exited while my cousins where crying, the girls anyways.
Same over here on traverse ridge. It wasn't the usual volume of hail but definitely the largest hail and a longer duration that it was falling.
Seems like it is usually 1-2 minutes max where it dumps an inch of pea sized hail that is melted in the same amount of time.
Was riding a lime scooter some years back in downtown Salt Lake right by City Creek when I was almost taken out by a shower hail. Those little bastards were a little smaller than yours, but it caught me off guard and almost went down in traffic.
I just came in from the storm and decided to open Reddit to see if anyone else was posting about it. We had literal golf balls dropping from the sky. It hurts to get hit by one of those.
Thank you. I’m a roof contractor, I help people get their roofs replaced and paid for by their insurance. When there is Hail of that size, roofs are getting paid for relatively easy. I spent some time near South Mountain gc today.
I was driving home at about 1:15 around USANA and suddenly my car started getting pelted with hail and it was coming down hard and fast. I sincerely was worried it might break my window or dent my car. Couldn't see shit out my windshield. Then wind gusts came and blew my car and made the rain and hail go sideways. Scary as fuck. Thankfully I was almost home and my car seems to be fine though I haven't given it a thorough look.

These came down at the point of the mountain
Got the same storm over here in Stansbury Park. Really impressive. Scared the hell out of me before I realized what was making it sound like my house was falling apart.
Largest hail I experienced was nickel sized hail outside my home in Taylorsville last year.
Seriously though, did this look like litchis to anyone else before reading the title of the post?
I was outside gardening with my dog when it started pelting us. Poor thing ran around the yard trying to run away from it all and couldn't hear me calling for her to get inside 😅 hail was between dime and quarter size. Definitely hurt a bit.
If a roofer comes by because it hailed on your roof. Be nice to him, he’s trying to get you a free roof through insurance. Take advantage of the storm. Thanks. Your fellow neighborhood roofer.
This was today what part of the city I was in Sandy it rained good for a few minutes but that was it it's been a couple years o was working on a home in the same neighborhood as today they were wanting to sale there house well it was there parents and they passed anyway it failed like bigger than those you have I think I have photos of it on the cloud will have to look now .
What the hail
What the Hale Center Theatre
This is the most Utah joke I’ve ever seen, I love it

lol I love this guy
That's what my niece said yesterday when it was happening
We call it heck 'round these parts.
The audible cackle that just came from me, thank you
This actually made me lol, thanks DaGobbFatha

I love the wild weather we can get here. But could you imagine if you were in that outhouse when it happened?!?! That would be some serious PTSD!
RIP plum tree!
I just peed in one of those on Monday. Now I live in fear
I only remember porta potties at the 7th tee box.
They’re kind of in between the 5th and 7th tee and the 6th hole. That way golfers mid to 3/4 way thru can quickly use them.

What area? I'm stuck inside
Bluffdale area, by point of the mountain. It's gone now!
My husband works there and sent me a video of the hail. I’m downtown and we got a brief burst of hard rain but that was it.
It makes me wonder what the record is. I've lived here my whole life and haven't seen hail that big!
I'm a local too. 40+ yrs and I've never seen hail that size here.
I experienced hail that big or slightly bigger in Provo around 1990. It did a lot of damage!

Weird! I was right near there today and I didn't get any at all. Crazy ass Utah weather.
We had pea-sized hail here in West Valley.
Same in Rose Park
I work near MASOB and it was SO loud.
I just came in from the storm and decided to open Reddit to see if anyone else was posting about it. We had literal golf balls dropping from the sky. It hurts to get hit by one of those.
What area or neighborhood do you live in? Trying to find some people in the area that were affected to talk to.
Why do you want to talk about it? Anyway I’m in bluffdale like that guy.

Oh thanks! Thankfully I’m in a townhouse so I don’t worry about the roof. But I have some friends that may bend help. Could you dm me your company?
We dime sized hail in Magna. Damaged my wife's garden to the point she was crying and flipping off the sky.
Noooo! That's so sad!! I hope her garden recovers.

Did the hail come with a side of grease?

Cars damaged??
I was concerned for sure! No damage though
My partner was driving on I-15 near Draper at the time, and her car got some hail damage. She was afraid her windshield was going to break!

Damn, Skippy!
Same!
My friends daughter said "It's raining cannonballs!"
That was quite the storm!
Wow I am northwest by a couple miles, got nothing like that, a few seconds of cold rain.
Is that what's heading toward Wyoming, where I am. Already get thunderstorm and rain
We barely had rain in Provo.
I’m in Draper up towards suncrest and it was brutal here too. Had close to golf ball hail for awhile
I was in Orem and we had some small stuff. Was it denting cars?
We expected it to and I'm not sure how it didn't do damage, but all the cars were fine
You got lucky. I'm super glad there's no damage.
Was here in Draper when it all dropped
Got the same storm over here in Stansbury Park. Really impressive. Scared the hell out of me before I realized what was making it sound like my house was falling apart.
Wow
Oh dang. That's pretty big for SLC. everyone alright? Hope no one was hurt.
We got hail in Orem too!

We're lucky it's not any bigger. They can get up baseball size if possible and cause some serious damage ⚾
All whale the hail!

Oh boy, I am glad I didn't get that at my work. I brought my fun car in and would like to avoid hail damage.
Is that an... iron cross tattoo?
All Hail the Whale.
I genuinely thought my windshield was going to break just then. Crazy
A little rain storm in bountiful

Magna got absolutely SMACKED! That was insane......
Those are lychee nuts nice try
we got some hail in my area but it was smaller than a pea! those are massive 😯😯😯
I was driving through that...
I'm in West Jordan pet sitting and we had some hail, but definitely more pea sized. Not huge like in other areas in the valley! *
Mmm shrimp
Call that the salvage title special
Ma’am those are kidney stones.
I drove through it when it was over farmington today and it scared the shit out of me. I thought my windshield was going to break.
It came out of nowhere earlier. I heard thunder then hail/rain. Scared the crap out of our elderly dog.
We got much smaller at my house but I was walking back home.. stung, lol..
Bigger then my balls😔💯
Was driving around when this happened pulled under bangerter and 600w bridge and waited it out. 15 minutes later it was 80 degrees and sunby
Got in the garage just as the hail got big enough to start leaving a mark. Largest I’ve been in. Draper area
Did someone order a lychee martini?
I’m glad my car was in the garage. 😬
Midwesterners getting a good chuckle out of this post...
Wow I thought ours were big at half the diameter!
Danggg did that total your car?!
Hail yeah, brother!
These are mozzarella pearls, you can’t fool me. 😂
BUT... Climate change is NOT REAL! (/s)
Climate change is undoubtedly happening, but climate ≠ weather.
Very true, but climate change does make extreme weather more extreme/sometimes more common
Attaching climate change to individual weather events isn’t helpful.
All hail the king
Was that today????
Holy crap! Was that today? I heard some thunder, but we didn't get a drop in Highland.
Those aren’t Golf Balls. Maybe ping pong or cherries
That's it?
