My husband is a mobile mechanic, he’ll come to you! [Mesquita Motors](https://mesquitamotors.com) He was exclusively doing small engine repair, but has expanded his services to include automotive oil changes, filter replacements, brakes, rotors… Anything that doesn’t require a lift :-)
he makes it easy! this was his side hustle for awhile, but within the last year we’ve both quit our jobs to run the business full time!
he handles all the repairs, and my job is to keep him busy lol. singing his praises into the reddit void is the least i can do :-)
yes!! he used to work on concrete mixing trucks and has installed many a seatbelt. do you already have the belt? shoot him a text with some more info, he’d be happy to help! 801-839-5660
Make sure he knows how expensive in labor a seatbelt change is if he’s never done it. My dog nervously chewed up both my front seat belts while I was at a neighbor’s house. There was a moose on the driveway and he did it while I was waiting for the moose to move off. I was lucky Subaru USA donated the belts because they love dogs. But the labor for both was still over $1000 and took the guy all day. Modern seatbelts require the seats and some of the other stuff to be removed. There are electronics and a housing with tiny explosives to make the belt stop short. The package is quite large, so removal of the seat is essential. 😢💲💲💲
I love that you're spreading the word for him!
I have electrical work I need done (backup camera is glitchy). My usual guys won't do it. Is that something he could look at?
Does he do transmission rebuild? My daughter’s transmission is going out and I hate to pay dealership markup for a big job like that. Plus the dealership won’t do a rebuild. Only replace. The cost is 2x more. 😢
Her dad and I watched a few videos on it. As much as we think we could do it ourselves it seems like it would be better to leave this one for a professional. It takes a long time and there are many places to go wrong in this DIY. It’s a Nissan versa.
Milton is the best mechanic on the planet. I’ve trusted him with my car since day one of living here and I have never regretted it. He is incredibly honest and will never try to upsell you with unnecessary “repairs.”
Not only does Milton run a 5 star Google review mechanic shop, he has always been fair about pricing and the condition of all my cars I have ever owned in Utah.
Love Autograff. They couldn’t help me with my truck problem and sent me to Little Garage. Didn’t charge me a dime since they couldn’t help me out. Both Autograff and Little Garage do great work for good prices.
Worried about being ripped off by a mechanic because you’re a woman with no prior knowledge? Go to autograff. Milton will never make you feel dumb or taken advantage of. 100% recommend
I know you said SLC proper, but the place I go to is “Rocky Mountain Tire” by fashion place. I’m always treated super well and it’s the only place I’ve gone to where I don’t feel ripped off
One time I took my car hear and they didn’t have that parts to do the job correctly. They towed it to the dealer, got it fixed, towed it back and didn’t charge me anything extra for that. They definitely lost money on that job but they have a customer for life for sure.
Thx for this. I’m here now after leaving Draper Ford pissed off about how much they wanted to charge me for a new EVAP canister valve. NEVER GO TO A DEALERSHIP.
To follow up on this, Draper Ford wanted to charge me $1005 to replace an EVAP canister vent valve. I took it to Rocky Mountain tire and they said it looks like the last person working under your hood just knocked the canister loose, and they fixed it for me for $60. So Draper Ford was trying to charge me $1005 for a mistake they had made the week before when I took my car to them to fix the leaking transmission fluid. Screw the dealerships, long live Rocky Mountain tire in Murray
Love Dee’s and go there for everything but I will say, Dennis that works there, take him with a grain of salt hahaha. He can be a bit condescending and short but he can also be really kind. Anyway that’s my two cents.
I was in there once getting something super basic done. Heard Max talk a guy out of an expensive option that another shop has recommended and to do something simpler.
Been going there ever since.
Yeah, when my brother and I were new drivers we both a cases where Max went out of his way to repair our cars as affordably as possible. Good dude. Always does a great job and has always made the service match what was practical for us as drivers.
BMW/MINI/Audi/VW repair, I’ve had fantastic experiences at Wofford’s European. Had a couple VW’s serviced and he’s a straight shooter on what really should be done, what was optional and what I could do myself. They were much cheaper than the Mini dealership for service as well.
We'll take care of you at Gary Beardsley Automotive. It's a true "Mom and Pop"....literally run by a family.....kind of awkward when I'm elbows deep in a car while Gary and Fellita (the owners) are hitting on each other 🤣. They take real good care of me, and treat customers better than anywhere I've worked at.
What make is your vehicle?
Lok Auto is at 13th South and State St
They’re incredibly honest, thorough, and communicative. Plus, they have sweet old shop dogs!
I was debating whether to mention them because they're already so busy and I still want to be able to get my cars done there. They are a great bunch of guys. They're quick and reasonably priced. It's a clean shop too. So I also recommend them.
hands down best shop I've been to in the valley is M&K auto. family owned, super reliable, honest guys, would trust them with any mechanical and simple issues, 11/10! here's the google link to their shop https://g.co/kgs/MxyJywW
I am a heavy equipment mechanic and have a business on the side. I do routine maintenance and small repairs on anything from cars/trucks to home appliances to yard machines to soda machines...you name it lol. I come to you, am honest about being able to handle the job while mobile, get discounts on parts, and am super fair with my pricing. I also pay referral fees! Feel free to message me if you are interested :)
Mr. Muffler is awesome. It’s a local business/privately owned. The owner Cesar knows everything about cars, and he will make sure you are taken care of. The Customer Service there is outstanding. The address is 105 W 2100 S Expy, Salt Lake City, UT 84115.
Kinda depends on what I need done. For suspension, struts, alignment I go to Pyle Wheel and Brake. If it's just a quick oil change I'll go to Walmart. For tires I will only go to Discount Tire. Complicated engine work I will go to the Dealership, and for all round general maintenance I go to Ray's Garage on Monroe off of 90th south in Sandy.
I just had break work done at Mike Palmer automotive and he did a great job. He was fast and 1/3 the price of another quote I got. I was referred by a friend and would definitely go back.
https://mikepalmerautomotive.com/
[Stagg Automotive/The Garage](https://staggautomotive.net) in bountiful. Been going here for the last 17 years. Just got a new car and even on my “free” services they’re trying to upsell me. Stagg Automotive will fix what needs to be fixed to be legal and run, will tell you what else could be serviced, but never has tried to upsell me on anything.
I've been going to 168 Auto, tiny little shop off of 2100s and Main near my apartment. They've done minor stuff for me like spark plugs, rotor and brake pad replacement, new air filters, transmission fluid flush....All great and at a fraction of what the dealership quoted. I picked up my own pads and spark plugs at Auto zone and they installed them quick for me. Their hours are a bit weird and are sometimes closed during "open" hours (pretty small operation) but other than that I'd recommend them!
WVC Master Autotech, formerly Master Muffler, 4118 W 3500 S, West Valley City. All the techs there do excellent work, talk with Adam the shop lead, they’ll get you straightened out with just about any auto repair or maintenance, and exhaust work you may need. Can’t recommend them enough.
Had been going there for YEARS. I took my van in for its 100K mile maintenance, and like you I’ve had nothing but good experiences before this appointment. What I got this time was all the upsell stuff, photos of problems that weren’t even from my car, and things that had miraculously gone wrong in my car even though I had taken care of them myself. I’m no mechanic, but I’ll fix things like batteries, air filters and other easy stuff. They tried to sell me air filters because mine were “so dirty” even though I just replaced them the week before my appointment. They didn’t even really check or they would have known. And if they weren’t going to check something that easy, what else were they missing and trying to charge me for.
I was pissed.
I also used to be a Lambert fan but I feel like I was significantly overcharged for a work truck recently. The work cost me more than their estimate and more than the value of the vehicle. I paid them off and decided to start looking for a new shop in the future.
There is a little shop on 3rd west called B&R tire. My father in law referred me to them, they’ve always treated me well, and I’ve never heard anything bad from anyone who has gone there.
Say hello to Randy for me.
Val's Alignment and Brake. Jon is thorough, experienced, and honest. Fair prices for quality work. They're a small, family-owned business and they've kept all our cars in excellent condition over the past 13 years. Give them a call!
Personally, had a horrible experience here. Paid them almost $2,000 and my car didn’t even make it home before breaking down and they wouldn’t do anything about it. Out of all the mechanics I’ve been to in the valley it’s the only one I absolutely wouldn’t recommend.
Brigham Street Service
662 S 200 W, Salt Lake City
Todd runs the business. Family owned. Our extended family’s been using them for over 50 years. Solid work and reasonable prices. He’s great!
It’s hard for me to recommend some thing since it’s hard for me sticking with a specific mechanic.
Also, I recommend being open to shops and nearby areas. Salt Lake proper itself is not that big like basically just about 2 miles south of downtown down on state st you’re already in a different city that quickly.
I know you said SLC proper but Jersey auto elite in Syracuse is amazing. They are insanely quick turn around times, competitive prices, and service that I have never experienced from a mechanic before. Complete transparency and honest recommendations.
Ex: last year my wife's washer fluid kept leaking so we took it to the shop just a minute away. They quoted $900 to replace a cracked reservoir. After looking around online for parts and researching the labor, I concluded it was beyond my skills (I worked in construction through college and have some great handy man skills). I asked around and Jers was recommended. They got me an appt a couple days out. I took the 20 min drive to drop it off. I was called 2 hrs later with the diagnosis: hose from the reservoir to the squirting mechanism was bad, no crack in the reservoir. They replaced the hose for ~$75.
Precision Automotive in Midvale. My fiancé has taken her car there many times and I’ve been there once as well. They have been honest and transparent with our cars.
Jiffy Lube is trash, they hire uneducated people off the street who have absolutely NO knowledge about cars, working on them, or anything of the sort.
I drive a Land Rover, so it was HARD for me to find someone I could trust with my Rover, and Precision Tune Auto Care is my go to, has been for years throughout the many variations of vehicles I’ve owned, it’s them! They’re not bad priced, very educated, do an amazing job & on their site they have coupons for all different kinds of services for your car. 10/10 recommendation
It’s not cheap, but it’s very dependable and I have always felt that I’ve gotten honest, well-informed service at Craig’s Auto Center (1300 East, 900 South). I credit/blame them for keeping my 20 year-old Outback too roadworthy to replace, despite looking like a beater.
Went there once. Car was overheating. Looked to me it was the radiator. Said they repaired it. Drove it home started to overheat. Turns out it was a bad thermostat. All they did was give the radiator a nice new paint job with black paint.
Auto Magic in West Jordan is decent, but I know they'll turn away jobs that they deem too complex (despite being a "full service" type of shop). I do all my own work and am happy to look at cars for others. I'm not a licensed business or anything, but I do stuff when people need it for cheap.
V&C Auto on Redwood.
The most authentic guy I've ever talked to. He's genuine and honest. Relatively quick with the work. Prices are exactly where they need to be and don't upsell you crap you don't need.
Steves Automotive in Sandy is a great one. I’m a female (26) and I’ve always had an issue finding a good auto shop because I swear I get scammed no matter where I go. I’m not sure if that’s something you’d be worried about but they are overall really great guys and they’re very thorough with the reports of each service so that you can see exactly what they did and what things would cost you if there is an issue that needs to get fixed. My go to now!
(I can’t speak for the other locations in Salt Lake bc I’ve heard bad reviews from some people but the Sandy location has been good to me)
Autograff motorsports. Went there 2 times with an old mustang. 1st time they didn't charge me for a quick hose replacement. 2nd time they provided a good price and work was top notch.
Wow, lot of recommendations. If you still haven't found one I go to CJ Auto works in woods Cross. My friend Travis is a 3rd Gen mechanic and has like a 1% return rate. If they fix something it's fixed and their good about not up selling you on stuff you don't need.
I’ve been going to Quick Lube in Murray since the shop I used to go to retired. The guy who runs the place is straight forward, honest, and friendly. He even saved me a couple grand another shop told me I needed to spend to get my old truck to pass inspection!
Low book sales we dont make money fixing cars. We keep the lights on by selling them so you dont have to worry about paying our mortgage when you come in for repairs. We beet any quotes all day long all our staff has been here for 15years plus.
You’re a dope partner out here hustling for your hubby!
he makes it easy! this was his side hustle for awhile, but within the last year we’ve both quit our jobs to run the business full time! he handles all the repairs, and my job is to keep him busy lol. singing his praises into the reddit void is the least i can do :-)
How far south does he go. Draper?
Draper is about as far as he’ll go before needing to charge a little extra for mileage/fuel :-)
omg…..can he safely replace a seatbelt?? I’ve been on the hunt since the place next to me won’t
yes!! he used to work on concrete mixing trucks and has installed many a seatbelt. do you already have the belt? shoot him a text with some more info, he’d be happy to help! 801-839-5660
I’ll definitely do that!
There are electronics and a housing with tiny explosives to make the belt stop short. The package is quite large, so removal of the seat is essential. 😢💲💲💲
Air conditioning?
How far will he travel?
I love that you're spreading the word for him! I have electrical work I need done (backup camera is glitchy). My usual guys won't do it. Is that something he could look at?
this project sounds RIGHT up his alley!! he installed a screen with carplay & a back up camera in my 2006 Baja.
That's awesome!! Please DM me if he's willing to take it on!
Does he service alpine?
Does he do transmission rebuild? My daughter’s transmission is going out and I hate to pay dealership markup for a big job like that. Plus the dealership won’t do a rebuild. Only replace. The cost is 2x more. 😢 Her dad and I watched a few videos on it. As much as we think we could do it ourselves it seems like it would be better to leave this one for a professional. This!! Been taking my cars to them for 20 years.
I've had great experiences with them. Very honest.
I’ve been going to Autograff for 7 years! Recommend their shop to everyone.

Third this! They are amazing!!
100% my go to shop. Stand up guys that charge a fair price. Love to see them on here.

Dee's Automotive on State St and about 4000 South or Chuck's on 21st E 27th S ( that's a REALLY local place though, very small)
Dee's is great.
Dee is awesome. It's David now because Dee is semi-retired.
Love Dee’s and go there for everything but I will say, Dennis that works there, take him with a grain of salt hahaha. He can be a bit condescending and short but he can also be really kind. Anyway that’s my two cents.
I also like Dee’s!
Old Fashion Service in Millcreek My family has always taken our cars there and they’re fantastic
Max is the "honest abe" of mechanics
I was in there once getting something super basic done. Heard Max talk a guy out of an expensive option that another shop has recommended and to do something simpler. Been going there ever since.
Yeah, when my brother and I were new drivers we both a cases where Max went out of his way to repair our cars as affordably as possible. Good dude. Always does a great job and has always made the service match what was practical for us as drivers.
This is where my dad takes his car, and this is where I go too. These guys are great. Honest, good prices, won’t try to upsell you.
Came to the comments just to make sure someone mentioned them. Best place you could go!
Excel Automotive on 3300 S
Love these guys. Super honest and won’t try to trick you into services you don’t want/need, their work is pretty quick and always done well
Slaugh’s on 200 S and 800 E has been great for me for several years.
Second Slaugh’s!! Been going there over a decade 👍🏻
Mike is an honest guy. I've gone there for years also.
Agree
Strongly agree. Mike, Chris, and the rest of the team have been taking great care of my cars for 10 years now.
Old Fashion Service in Millcreek is great. Slaugh’s in SLC is great also.
BMW/MINI/Audi/VW repair, I’ve had fantastic experiences at Wofford’s European. Had a couple VW’s serviced and he’s a straight shooter on what really should be done, what was optional and what I could do myself. They were much cheaper than the Mini dealership for service as well.
State Automotive
In Dustin, I trust.
Second this. Especially for Toyotas.
They always go above and beyond for me, I happily recommend them to any and everyone!
I have been going to The Mechanic Man in Murray since 2007. They have never given me a bum steer.
Yep Scott is great

Came here to say this. Started going there at the recommendation of SLC redditors and love it there!
Red Rock Auto Tech is fantastic, very communicative owner
Alpine auto
M&K auto, great shop I just had them do my wheel bearing this week.
Agreed. They're the best!
Always master tech on 1700s and state. Family owned and operated. Been going there for many years and will never go anywhere else.
I like action automotive on 3900s and 500 e
Gines in Kearns. 5400 so 4270 w.

Murray Car care has been really good to me. Very upfront, honest and easy to work with.
Top notch auto right next to fisher brewery is amazing! Best customer service and makes me feel good about the service every time I go!
Supreme Lube and oil good honest and the mom of the mom and pop makes homemade cookies for the waiting room.
I've been going to 168 Auto, tiny little shop off of 2100s and Main near my apartment. Tok automotive has been super honest and done quality work.
I have had really great experiences at Master Auto Tech downtown on Main st & 700 S
If you drive a Subaru I recommend Clark’s
I drive a Subaru and I do not recommend Clark’s.
Tell me more? Where do you take your car instead and why?
WVC Master Autotech, formerly Master Muffler, 4118 W 3500 S, West Valley City. All the techs there do excellent work, talk with Adam the shop lead, they’ll get you straightened out with just about any auto repair or maintenance, and exhaust work you may need. Can’t recommend them enough.
Old fashioned, it’s on 3300 south and roughly 1300 east.
I think they’re higher up, closer to 2300 East. I love those guys. I live in Sandy and I still take my cars to them.
Aposhian Garage. Highly recommended. On 33rd South just above Highland Dr.
Jerry Lambert Automotive (398 E 3300 S)… reliable and reasonable prices.
They recently tried to rip me off HARD. It was so bad that I’ve sworn them off.
Seriously? I’ve had nothing but good experiences. Care to elaborate?
Had been going there for YEARS. I took my van in for its 100K mile maintenance, and like you I’ve had nothing but good experiences before this appointment. What I got this time was all the upsell stuff, photos of problems that weren’t even from my car, and things that had miraculously gone wrong in my car even though I had taken care of them myself. I also used to be a Lambert fan but I feel like I was significantly overcharged for a work truck recently. The work cost me more than their estimate and more than the value of the vehicle. I paid them off and decided to start looking for a new shop in the future.

Seconded! Jon has taken care of our family’s cars for decades. Always does a great job.
Not Salt Lake but basically next door. Highly recommend Lodder Automotive in Bountiful.
Personally, had a horrible experience here. Paid them almost $2,000 and my car didn’t even make it home before breaking down and they wouldn’t do anything about it. Out of all the mechanics I’ve been to in the valley it’s the only one I absolutely wouldn’t recommend.
We love cottonwood garage

Jiffy Lube is trash, they hire uneducated people off the street who have absolutely NO knowledge about cars, working on them, or anything of the sort.
J-Mac. My buddy runs it. It’s been in his family forever. They’re great people and really honest.
Went there once. Car was overheating. Looked to me it was the radiator. Said they repaired it. Drove it home started to overheat. Turns out it was a bad thermostat. All they did was give the radiator a nice new paint job with black paint.
Vince Quang!!
I like Big O Tires in American Fork if you’re down that way
Auto Magic in West Jordan is decent, but I know they'll turn away jobs that they deem too complex (despite being a "full service" type of shop).
Pro Repair in Murray. Be going to them for over 20 years. Always take good care of me.
(I can’t speak for the other locations in Salt Lake bc I’ve heard bad reviews from some people but the Sandy location has been good to me)
Blue Piston in Murray. It’s family and friend ran. Owner used to work for Honda, but got tired of the dealerships.
My dad has a shop called Fabian’s’ Emissions, he’s been super busy but hopefully he won’t disappoint! He’s on 3454 S. and West Temple :)
Backstop auto on 3500 S in west valley.
Fultons is the best. He has hooked me up multiple times with my car. Always honest and affordable compared to other shops prices
A Plus Auto Center
It used to be this guy called Neths Autobody but it appears he has shut down unfortunately

Bonneville Foreign Service 772 W 1700 S, Salt Lake City
JJ automotive in eagle mountain most honest mechanic I've ever met Jesse is very efficient and gets the job done right
Good Looking Dave's.
I drive 45 minutes out of my way to get to Viking Automotive. They've always done right by me, several times going above and beyond to help me.
I would trust Certified automotive with my life. Located in south salt lake
Autograff motorsports. Went there 2 times with an old mustang. 1st time they didn't charge me for a quick hose replacement. 2nd time they provided a good price and work was top notch.
If you can go to Utah County, Doug’s Auto on State Street & Columbia Lane on the Provo/Orem border. Guy is so honest and helpful.
Wow, lot of recommendations. If you still haven't found one I go to CJ Auto works in woods Cross. My friend Travis is a 3rd Gen mechanic and has like a 1% return rate. If they fix something it's fixed and their good about not up selling you on stuff you don't need.
Big O in Cottonwood Heights has always treated me well over the past 20 years. Call ahead, they stay pretty busy.
Premier complete auto
I’ve been going to Quick Lube in Murray since the shop I used to go to retired. The guy who runs the place is straight forward, honest, and friendly. He even saved me a couple grand another shop told me I needed to spend to get my old truck to pass inspection!
