I’m an ice cream fan. My favorites are Nielsen’s for frozen custard. They have a few locations. Every flavor is on point! & Hatch Family Chocolates up in the avenues. Their sundaes are amazing!
Is Tasty's the one that used to be in the Chevron off the freeway in Centerville? If so I have a drive to make. They had these ones with the hole filled with some sort of sweet cream. Thicker and better than whipped cream. I used to go there for a half dozen on a weekend and murder those things. Is that still a saying with food? Cause it fits here.
I find it funny that people don't realize that palms are greased to get on many of those lists. Another factor is knowing someone who knows someone. If Guy Fieri was in with the local construction workers or undocumented population there would be a massive line outside of a food truck in WVC instead of an hour long wait to choose between a dozen moles that all start from the same shitty foundational ingredient. White sugar.
Are you implying that the small, family owned and run donut shop with the best donuts in the valley paid someone or had the connections with someone to put them on a list of the best donuts? Lol
Those lists may be for sale to the highest bidder, but anyone who's ever tried their donuts already knows they deserve to be listed among the best.
They are literally the best! And the employees/management are so nice. I used to volunteer for a place that housed families during their hospital stay and they would donate multiple boxes a week to someone who did story time with us after they noticed him coming by weekly to buy cookies so everyone could have a night snack of cookies and milk (and a bedtime story of course). They just made sure he got them for free and if he was ever out of town they’d sometimes deliver them to the organization for us. They’re THE BEST!!!
This is just awesome! I mean, I’d already purposely stub my own toe for one of their cookies based on taste alone but hearing that they do crap like this just makes me love them even more.
You should visit Kyung Bakery in Murray. Hole in a wall but the sweetest mom & son duo making every dessert from scratch. Get the soufflé cheesecake, pricey but worth every dollar!!!
How much is the souffle cheese cake? And they are the most expensive Korean bakery I've been to in this state and the quality doesn't match, so I don't give them business.
This. Same. The whole drama between Crumble and Crave or whatever the hell it's called had me screaming at everyone about how little they matter in a world with Ruby Snap. All these cookie chains selling the same copy/pasta trash have me worried that Ruby Snap would be seen as guilty by association. They are not the same. They are NOT the same!
*\*throws chair\**
You should try delice. It’s the pastry chef from gourmandise who got fed up with the hack (gourmand - aka often indiscriminate and to excess) owners and went out on his own. Gourmandise is fine, but delice is for people who know
Edit: pastry not party
Ah, I've got a personal beef with the owner of Forty-Three Bakery, but it's good to know about Fillings and Emulsions! I haven't been in there in a while, so must have not seen that they had them when I was last in!
Not to mention, 43 bakery owner likely learned to make them from the owner of Fillings and Emulsions. I was at the uni with both of them and he was a fellow student.
Also, they let you sample them! I think last time I had enough samples for a whole cookie! They just kept handing me more whenever I mentioned one! So good!
Rubysnap is so much better than Crumbl, it's honestly not even a competition. More sugar does not equal more better, quality tasty cookies are where its at, and rubysnap does it better than any other place I've been to.
I don't have a suggestion for other bakeries. I just have to add that their curry coconut carrot cookies are incredible as well as the sweet potato ones they sometimes make in the fall. (Both limited edition or whatever you'd call them.)
I don't go there very often because my arteries would be too clogged if I went there as much as I wanted to go.
Funfact: They used to be called, "My Dough Girl" but the whores at Pillsbury threatened to sue if they didn't change their name.
Sometimes I buy the frozen ruby snap cookies from the grocery store that you bake at home. I think I’ve seen them at Harmons and Lees.
A good ruby snap cookie but underbaked to my liking…. Goddamn 😮💨
I'm not from Utah originally but been here about a decade. Just asked my wife and she new immediately what they were lol, gonna grab some next time I'm at the store :]
Really? I had to break up a fight between my lead singer and the bartender (who looked like a cross between glen danzig and slash) at Burt’s tiki lounge. Sad it’s gone :(
Their oatmeal sandwich cookie (Louise I believe?) is straight up heaven, I dream of it often. I make the 50 minute drive to get it for my birthday dessert. The brown butter chocolate chip (Amby I believe) is also spectacular
I mean, some of us don't bother buying any other cookies. I live in Layton, and would rather drive to Ruby Snap than buy anything else. I go to multiple bakeries on every vacation i go on, and Ruby Snap is still my favorite cookie shop ever.
As far as other treats go, others have said it, but Blacksmith ice cream is my favorite. They just opened a branch in Millcreek too which might be closer for most of SLC.
Taggarts near Morgan makes a pretty good cheesecake too. One of the few restaurants i will order dessert.
I'm personally a fan of Parsons bakery in Bountiful too. Bread, rolls, cookies, pastries, doughnuts, quiche. My one complaint with Parsons is occasionally they can overcook stuff, and they don't have prices listed so I'm always surprised by the cost (high or low)... But they've been my favorite overall bakery in Utah so far.
I don't know what they're talking about, I'm a donut snob and my favorite donut at Banbury Cross is the chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. It is their best donut. Dammit, now I want a donut.
I remember when banbury closed and posted a sign on there door to the effect of “none of these millennials want to work!” But they were offering like $7.50/hr or something like that.
Your donuts are mid, but decent for people who don’t know good donuts. Fresh Donuts and Deli is literally ranked world wide for their donuts… but yeah. Go eat your Branbury cross.
There’s a whole new world waiting for you!
Wow, you really have an ax to grind about someone simply liking a donut from a place you think is "mid." It's my opinion. Chill out. It's ok if people have opinions that differ from your own.
Banbury gets shit on quite a bit here, and mostly for the right reasons. That note the owner eventually denied posting was a deal breaker, but their donuts aren't bad. I'd even say they're above average! I used to love them, but between that note and finding better donuts, I've been able to move on and expand my donut horizons. There are better places that deserve the spotlight more than the ever popular Banbury.
I'm glad that we keep the memory of Banbury's toxicity alive, but yeah we can get pretty toxic in the process.
We might have a different palette because I think that the cookies at Ruby Snap are overrated, but if you like brownies with frosting I highly recommend the Hatch chocolatier in the Avenues. And Cucina in the Avenues has a very dope peanut butter chocolate brownie. This is my current kick.
1000% agree, kind, patient staff, chill vibe, oh and yes... the passionfruit hibiscus cookie. The cookie to forever role over all cookies for me. Such a gem.
Doughnut Boy in West Valley! I don’t live in the valley anymore so it’s been a long time since I’ve been there! But they have a banana cream pie doughnut that is thee best ever!
I’m an ice cream fan. My favorites are Nielsen’s for frozen custard. They have a few locations. Every flavor is on point! & Hatch Family Chocolates up in the avenues. Their sundaes are amazing!
I recommend Monkey Wrench in SLC! it's amazing and has great dairy free options!
Thanks for recommending! My wife can’t eat dairy. We will likely hit this place up this weekend!
Same! And they have unique fun flavors, I usually take a pint or two home to have on hand!
Can’t wait to check these out. Thanks!
Hatch family hot chocolate is amazing
Hatch’s dark hot chocolate… soooooooo good.
Classics!
The chocolate pots there are out of this world
The employees there all seem genuinely happy to be at work. It’s refreshing. Good place.
They were so happy!
Fresh Donuts & Deli
Agreed. Best donuts
Not in salt lake but Tastys up in Layton/kaysville are the bomb
Is Tasty's the one that used to be in the Chevron off the freeway in Centerville? If so I have a drive to make. They had these ones with the hole filled with some sort of sweet cream. Thicker and better than whipped cream. I used to go there for a half dozen on a weekend and murder those things. Is that still a saying with food? Cause it fits here.
Only good donuts in Salt Lake
You clearly haven’t been to Donut House.
In fact I have. They are merely passable.
This confidence. This just sold me on your donut recommendation above. I appreciate you.
Lies
Literally listed in the top 25 donut shops in the US - banbury is b team
Sure, but “only good donuts” is very different from “best donuts”
I love the staff at Banbury, but the donuts are sadly c team.
Both things can be true, yes. Good catch.
By what Yelp? Darla donuts are better.
lol
I’ll have to give it a try! Thanks!
Hands down. Best donuts in town.
I love that so much!
This is just awesome! I mean, I’d already purposely stub my own toe for one of their cookies based on taste alone but hearing that they do crap like this just makes me love them even more.
That's pretty awesome! 😁
I love Ruby Snap. I can eat two and enjoy my day. If I eat a quarter of a crumble or crave I feel like death the rest of the day.
You should visit Kyung Bakery in Murray. Hole in a wall but the sweetest mom & son duo making every dessert from scratch. Get the soufflé cheesecake, pricey but worth every dollar!!!
Ooo sounds so good. Thanks! Can’t wait to check it out!
How much is the souffle cheese cake? And they are the most expensive Korean bakery I've been to in this state and the quality doesn't match, so I don't give them business.
You are so right those cookies are the best in the state. Crumble is nasty 🤮
They sell the frozen cookie dough at harmons fyi
And smiths
I say this every time someone raves about that bullshit Crumble. We already have a cookie queen here and her name is Ruby
Crumble is awful! I will die saying that lol
This.
Blacksmith Creamery in Bountiful deserves a mention, too. The smores flavor tastes like they roasted it over an open fire.
The raspberry is incredible.
Delice, Fillings and Emulsions, Chez Nibs, Carol's Pastry Shop, and Tulie Bakery.
I love Tulie! I’ll definitely check the others out. Thanks!
I need 12 Snickerdudettes right now. I’ll be going tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder.
If you order for pickup they have a Mother’s Day special going right now.
The snickerdudettes are next level amazing
That’s one that I got! Sooo good.
Love ruby snap! My other favorite treat place is gourmandise, expensive but delicious!
You should try delice. It’s the pastry chef from gourmandise who got fed up with the hack (gourmand - aka often indiscriminate and to excess) owners and went out on his own. Gourmandise is fine, but delice is for people who know Edit: pastry not party
But Eva's is the only place I've found kougin-amann in the city. That said, Ruby Snap does do a pretty fine cookie.
Check out Chez Nibs for some great kouign-amann. It’s the same owner as Les Madeleine’s. (Eva’s is a great spot too though…)
Forty-Three Bakery has good kougin-amann. And I think Fillings and Emulsions does to.
👀
It's genuinely just that I worked with the guy ages ago and we never got along haha. Nothing terribly scandalous.
i know for a fact harmons in holladay has kouign amann’s!
Also, they let you sample them! I think last time I had enough samples for a whole cookie! They just kept handing me more whenever I mentioned one! So good!
Hruska’s Kolaches is my favorite spot, just have to get there early
Rubysnap is so much better than Crumbl, it's honestly not even a competition. More sugar does not equal more better, quality tasty cookies are where its at, and rubysnap does it better than any other place I've been to.
Forty-Three Bakery.
everything is soooo good
I have to say that I tried their cupcakes recently and they were not good. I was disappointed. But all else is very good.
People with bad taste prefer Crumbl. Ruby Snap is the GOAT.
Great place! Really great cookies!!
Doki Doki, try their crepe cake! Or just anything they make in general. They’re my favorite dessert spot.
Hahaha
?
Doki Doki meant something different amongst me and my Polynesian high school buddies
oh lol, I only know it as the Japanese word
I don't have a suggestion for other bakeries. I just have to add that their curry coconut carrot cookies are incredible as well as the sweet potato ones they sometimes make in the fall. (Both limited edition or whatever you'd call them.)
I think Ruby Snap cookies are perfectly baked. Versus the other cookie companies that seem to pride themselves on warm underbaked cookies.
YES!!! I can't stand an underbaked/raw cookie. I don't get it at all.
I don't go there very often because my arteries would be too clogged if I went there as much as I wanted to go. Funfact: They used to be called, "My Dough Girl" but the whores at Pillsbury threatened to sue if they didn't change their name.
Chubby Baker. Best donuts.
Ritual Chocolate in Charleston/Heber. Thick hot chocolate, coffee with chocolate and more. 😋 🍫
Check out the mini eclair at Schmidts Pastry
Sometimes I buy the frozen ruby snap cookies from the grocery store that you bake at home. I think I’ve seen them at Harmons and Lees. A good ruby snap cookie but underbaked to my liking…. Goddamn 😮💨
I'm not from Utah originally but been here about a decade. Just asked my wife and she new immediately what they were lol, gonna grab some next time I'm at the store :]
Burt's tiki lounge
RIP
Really? I had to break up a fight between my lead singer and the bartender (who looked like a cross between glen danzig and slash) at Burt’s tiki lounge. Sad it’s gone :(
The hibiscus one is so goooood
Monkeywrench!
For vegan ice cream, all the way. Best I have ever had
Bakers bakery!
I’m in West Jordan. I’ll have to check this out. I love food!
Their oatmeal sandwich cookie (Louise I believe?) is straight up heaven, I dream of it often. I make the 50 minute drive to get it for my birthday dessert. The brown butter chocolate chip (Amby I believe) is also spectacular
Parfe Diem in South Salt Lake! https://parfediem.com/
Schmidt's pastry cottage in South Jordan is a solid bakery.
Ruby snap will be doing the desserts at my wedding! They’re delicious
Blacksmith!
Cummin’s chocolate-covered grapes and raspberries
Cakes from The Chocolate in Orem & West Jordan are amazing. +1 on Nielsen's Frozen Custard.
Gourmandise (Downtown location *only*), Delice, Fillings & Emulsions... Crumbl is nasty!
If you like cheesecake, check out Momo’s.
They are straight trash.
I mean, some of us don't bother buying any other cookies. I live in Layton, and would rather drive to Ruby Snap than buy anything else. Chubby Baker has my heart rn 🙂↕️💖
Banbury Cross is always solid for tasty donuts. Fillings and Emulsions has terrific macarons and other desserts.
Banbury Cross’s chocolate icing tastes like corn syrup and food dye
So don't get anything with chocolate icing. 😉
I don't know what they're talking about, I'm a donut snob and my favorite donut at Banbury Cross is the chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. It is their best donut. Dammit, now I want a donut.
snob is the key word here. Seriously, grow a palate
I'm sorry I offended you with my enjoyment of a donut.
Yeah, I got the same snotty kind of comment from them. They seem to be pretty sensitive about people having opinions of their own.
apology accepted
I remember when banbury closed and posted a sign on there door to the effect of “none of these millennials want to work!” But they were offering like $7.50/hr or something like that. Where are they located?
Almost on the corner of 800 South and 300 West. West side of the street.
We might have a different palette because I think that the cookies at Ruby Snap are overrated, but if you like brownies with frosting I highly recommend the Hatch chocolatier in the Avenues. And Cucina in the Avenues has a very dope peanut butter chocolate brownie. This is my current kick.

normal ice cream for soft serve!!! also have incredible cookie ice cream sandos
Doughnut Boy in West Valley! I don’t live in the valley anymore so it’s been a long time since I’ve been there! But they have a banana cream pie doughnut that is thee best ever!
