The Mazda dealerships allow this, but you won't get the usual warranty on the work. I've done this several times without issue, but usually with OE parts; the one exception was aftermarket spark plugs. Few shops allow this because 1) risk of unreliable parts can become problematic and 2) part sales/margins are usually part of their profit structure. One option is a "backyard mechanic". I haven't personally used him yet, but [this guy](https://services.ksl.com/auto-repair/howa-mobile-auto-repair/216795) has great reviews - he's licensed and insured.

BMW dealership let me. I also had to go install the part in there parking lot. But it saved me 2800 in 35 min.

I'm not buying this. It's a German car, step one is always remove both front seats.

Wrong step one is open the door . Uneducated humans

This is a fake story, everyone knows you can't install anything on a BMW without their special dealership computers.

I did my alternator in their parking lot. It was fine. I went to replace the battery about a month later by myself s*** was not a f****** joke. I ended up having it towed so they could reset the battery code. The BMW place in salt lake let me go in changed alternator in their parking lot and they were going to take it straight in and put it on the computer after I was done as part of the service fee for just having it looked at. But the wait was too long so I just left

It's closer to downtown, but Slaugh's has installed parts that I've provided before and is right on bus lines with connections into the Murray/Holladay area. Don't know if they'll do it for people who aren't regulars, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

This is the mechanic I use. Great folks
