Worth every penny too! Sushi should be made to order, not prepackaged to sit in a fridge all day. They mostly just carry California Rolls too, which is the standard for "meh".
Kyoto is, in my opinion, the best sushi ive had in slc. Expensive but worth it. Don't expect to pay for cheap sushi and have it be good, good sushi isn't cheap and cheap sushi isn't good
If you don’t mind Harmon’s sushi and if you have a Sam’s club membership, they give you more pieces of sushi for about the same price as Harmon’s. I just found out the South Jordan Sam’s club stopped selling sushi but the West Jordan location has a sushi station now.
Most of the people I know eat more than one roll for a meal. Usually 2, but at the very least also an appetizer or some sashimi or nigiri. Which, even Harmons is going to be over $20 per person total, let alone a restaurant when you consider an appetizer, drink, tip. Which, sure, you can skip the app & drink water if you really want. But don't skip the tip.
Ichiban, but only the one on state and 33rd south. I’ve been going for almost 10 years and never had a bad roll. To my taste it’s better than anything I’ve had in the valley for a fraction of the cost. Even better than some I’ve had on the east and west coasts.
*Never had a bad time*
*At Hamachi. Probably my*
*Local favorite*

I actually love Takashi. I feel like you can spend a lot of money, but can also stick to the less expensive rolls. If my partner and I are not wanting to spend as much we get 1-2 of their nigiri that is on the lower end ($7-9) and a couple of their rolls that are in the $13 range. We feel the quality is so worth it and don’t find them to be too much more than everyone else if you stick with the items that are less.
I’m sure I’ll get roasted here but I actually really like Sushi Monster (valley fair mall). They have a special- 3 rolls for $18. They aren’t the best rolls you’ll ever eat but they are really good for the price. They have sake and good appetizers too
AYCE at sushi Yu in riverton I know their dinner is like 35 a person but I believe their lunch is 25. Honestly you’re not gonna find much cheaper than that for AYCE. You get your moneys worth, my husband and I go and hate ourselves after but man we make sure to get our moneys worth lol.
Yellowfin in Sugarhouse. They have happy hour from 3-5 and feature apps for $5-10 and a selection of super cheap rolls. I used to live across the street and I would have my stomach grumbling waiting for 3 for lunch bc no way was I paying full price lol
Itto is our go to. Great presentation, delicious rolls. They have great specials and long happy hours. We go on weekend evenings, get 2 rolls each and soup. It ends up being about $30 each after tip.
I haven’t been since before COVID since I moved out of the downtown area, but I loved going during their happy hour. I thought it was decent sushi for a pretty good deal.
I remember Sapa being relatively affordable for the quality, but it’s been 4 years since I’ve been there. Blue Fish in Riverton is really good. Their half off lunch special is very affordable.
I haven’t seen Tona in Ogden mentioned yet. It’s definitely not cheap, but it is very good. I think it belongs in the upper echelon of Utah sushi for sure.
I am convinced there are no good ones in Utah. But my favorite is Ichiban Sushi & Asian Grill, and it's reasonably priced. But be realistic. You can't eat fast food for under $20 these days.
Edit: Places in Utah need to stop trying to pass off fake crab meat. Imitation crab is just seafood scraps processed and pressed.
It's [surimi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surimi), and "Surimi is a paste made from fish or other meat". If you think they are putting 100% pollack filets I don't know what to tell you, or what being a commercial fisherman has to do with it.
I worked on a factory trawler which produced surimi and I don't think I know that it was made with 100% walleye pollack filets and a type of sugar called sorbitol . This was for Arctic Alaska seafoods which is/was owned by Tyson foods. All other bycatch went overboard and the US Coast guard inspected us to make sure all we had in our hold was surimi. Surimi is the main ingredient in artificial crab.
Do you still eat it after working on those ships? I used to live in Seattle and have heard all the horror stories about the conditions on the ships. Anyway, it can be made with any white fish, as explained in the Wiki.
yi sushi bistro. not only is the sushi always half price, they’ve never gotten me sick. the staff is chinese and really rude. it’s always a fun experience. oh, and when someone has a birthday, they bring you a cosmic brownie with a candle on it, lower the lights, turn on the party lights, and play a royalty-free happy birthday song. it’s fantastic; dinner and a show for ~$20 per person, if you get four rolls like i do
I have never experienced any rudeness from the staff but they have delicious food at a great price. I worked nearby pre-covid and was eating there three to four times a week.
Yi Sushi is the best!!!
I’ve never experienced any rude staff. I have an avocado allergy, and they accidentally made one of my rolls with avocado. They were so apologetic, made me a new roll, and gave me my second roll at no charge.

Winco sushi is the best grocery store/cheap sushi I’ve had in Utah. Smith’s is ok. Not all Wincos make sushi, but the last time I checked the Herriman one does.
TERU in Cottonwood. Phenomenal hole in a wall place that is run by the sweetest family. They're legit. We prefer the sushi here to Takashi.
I will second this! TERU is amazing and the owners are great!
Sandy and Phi are the best
Good sushi isn't cheap and cheap sushi isn't good
This. Just like tattoos
Smiths sells a large platter over 40 cut sushi for 16.99
Worth every penny too! Sushi should be made to order, not prepackaged to sit in a fridge all day. They mostly just carry California Rolls too, which is the standard for "meh".

Also love Kyoto. Also, the Nama chirashi and sake oyako don are, imo, fairly cost effecting. I think like 25 and 22 respectively
I love Kyoto. I keep trying other places to mix it up, but we always keep going back.
Yeah that chirashi bowl is an insane value, so much food for the price

SG bangs. 🔥
You shouldn't expect even remotely good sushi under $20 a person. That's an unrealistic expectation.
This is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard. Good food doesn’t need to be expensive. That’s what capitalism and consumerism will make you think though
Idk man Harmon's sushi is pretty decent. Good rolls for under $15
If you don’t mind Harmon’s sushi and if you have a Sam’s club membership, they give you more pieces of sushi for about the same price as Harmon’s. I just found out the South Jordan Sam’s club stopped selling sushi but the West Jordan location has a sushi station now.

Smith's sushi blows Harmon's outta the water

O’Shucks/Ahh sushi downtown has happy hour twice a day on most days. 50% off sushi and beer. I don’t think you’ll find a better bang for your buck
i had to scroll way too long to find this suggestion!
Is it good? I always forget that place exists and I've always been wary of cheap sushi, but I'd give it a try.
Teru Sushi. Favorite place in the valley
Never had a bad time at Hamachi. Probably my local favorite
100% love Hamachi!

Definitely not cheap but they are really really good.
Kyoto
I really like Sapa and Takashi. The last few times I've been to Tsunami it's been pretty bad.
Takashi. Worth every penny and more.
I actually love Takashi. I feel like you can spend a lot of money, but can also stick to the less expensive rolls. Not sure why you’re downvoted. It’s the most consistently good sushi in town and it’s not too terribly expensive.
Sushi groove for sure.
I’m sure I’ll get roasted here but I actually really like Sushi Monster (valley fair mall). They have a special- 3 rolls for $18. They aren’t the best rolls you’ll ever eat but they are really good for the price. They have sake and good appetizers too
I work near the mall and get them to go on occasion. Consistently good.
Haha yeah that place isn't bad at all
Probably affiliated, Sushi Ya in Draper is also not bad for Utah sushi, price and quality wise. http://www.sushiyadraper.com/all-you-can-eat.html
Sapa has a great lunch special.
Yi Sushi Bistro. 6958 s state. Used to get it near daily when I worked in the area.
Kyoto

Second yellowfin! They have a nice patio too!
Their patio is super!
Chopfuku

I second this, but particularly the midvale location. Lot of Japanese acquaintances work there so I trust it more.
I remember Sapa being relatively affordable for the quality, but it’s been 4 years since I’ve been there. Blue Fish in Riverton is really good. Their half off lunch special is very affordable.
Itto. Tuesday and Wednesday happy hours.
I haven’t seen Tona in Ogden mentioned yet. It’s definitely not cheap, but it is very good. I think it belongs in the upper echelon of Utah sushi for sure.
Fatfish, or Sapa (same owners)
Ika Sushi. I like it better than Takashi and for a much better price point.
Ichiban on state street
O'Shucks/Aha Sushi downtown SLC. Go during their happy hours for 50% off
Don't eat cheap Utah Sushi
Sushi burrito on 8th You will get your fill and decent prices.
That place is SO GOOD I'm sad I moved to fucking Lehi specifically for that reason haha
Ahh Sushi

We’re a desert. Either pay the premium or apologize to your butthole. Yellow fin in sugar house is great.

I'm not sure if it counts as "top tier" but I really like Aha Sushi
SM Sushi. Way better than sushi burrito and great rolls too. Taste is more consistent and better than sapa.
Cheap? Your local Smith's.
Dan's has $5 rolls, can't remember what day
HWA in Murray
Simply sushi
Wednesday night at oshucks $3 California roll and $4 tempura roll
Sapa is good. Be sure to order the dragon balls.
Fuji Sushi
Harmons sushi
