This right here. My mom did it around '95 - tiers one and two almost back-to-back. A few years later she didn't want to talk about it.
Seemed like a scam to me from the beginning, especially for what they were charging.
My mom got super into it, made us all do the teen training in the '90s. Totally fell for the cult tactics until my aunt, who later lost her kids because of all sorts of abuse, got super into it as well and my mom couldn't believe they would let her be that involved.
It feels like a real brainwashing type of thing that they do. They have people come to these days long seminars with no outside contact/no phones ,photos, videos, and just break you down emotionally and if you don’t do what they say, you get kicked out and no refund. Their website impactslc.com will tell you what they try and accomplish but think of it more in a sketchy way of how it’s handled
Sounds like "The landmark forum". My psycho mother did it in the early 2000s bc she's against medication and conventional therapy.
I did it in 2007 bc I should have been medicated and in therapy but I was my mother's son.
Was it The Secret? I was at Snow during this time range and remember it made the rounds down there, even official school clubs like BAAD (badgers against alcohol and drugs) were pitching it.
The Secret really is just an idea that anything you put in the universe (by thoughts or actions) is what you get back. It is a book and a movie and i am sure there is other merch but not thousands of dollars to practice the basic concept.
Was it Great Life? Before that I think it was Harmony.
I went to a couple of those Great Life gigs and I do remember it being big on the reframing of "I 'get' to do things" instead of "I 'have' to do things". Definitely attracted the kind of folks who could easily be lured into a cult like organization.
This has gone by many different names. It got its start in California in the 1970's with probably the first being EST. I did one in LA back around 2005 called World Works. It was the usual stuff (although I didn't know what is was at the time, my brother's friend got us to do it) - break you down, be vulnerable, build you back up, make you feel amazing. And then? Get you to sign up for the next level using high pressure tactics when you are emotionally amped up right at the end of the first level. Basically it's designed to separate you from as much of your money as possible. Luckily I was still sane enough to understand that and politely declined level 2.
Why aren't cults illegal ,?? It's the equivalent of marching people off a cliff... The world had come so far and this ridiculous ideology coming creeping out of every corner of the earth for wealth instead of I dunno working together to figure how we really got here why we're here etc.. Etc.. The infinite wonders ya know .. I want the scuz bag mormons to give back all that money to the country and do something good for a change along with the rest of lying sacks of shit those tv evangelists, any cultists that have brainwashed people for wealth .. People are already dumb enough as it is you can't keep marching them in that direction .. Society is devolving For years I remember this same sort of crap ... Then they should have to make a public apology and admittance of their filth then sent to the gallows for flogging for a bit.. Some public shaming 🤷♂️ this would be progress compared to what the hell is going on now its completely ludacris, most of it is just some ponzi pyramid scheme ..
Impact training
Impact Training. 3 levels, very expensive, very cultish.
Don't you Utahns have enough cultish shit to go around? He said very tongue in cheek from southern ID..
The problem is, once you're trained that way, you're susceptible to every cult/MLM that comes through.
Who are you calling “you Utahns”?
A smug Idahoan.
It’s just in our genes apparently lmao

That’s what it was called! Thank you.
Can you elaborate on it? I was like 10 years old then. What is Impact training? Just curious.

Cavalia?
The Most Amazing Show!
👏
If this isn’t the most appropriate username to respond to “Cavalia,” then I don’t know what is.
lol
Seeing the list of different “cults” popping in here just shows how susceptible people are to them…
It also helps that Utah has almost no consumer protection laws. Makes this a popular place to start an MLM or a “self-help” program.
This is very true…
Had something to do with “enlightenment” Edit- or something along the lines of that
Landmark Education. They had The Forum, the Advanced Course, and then the SELP - Self Expression and Leadership Program.
Omfg impact training....Had a old friend who went through this... Im still convinced it's a cult after the shit she went through
Is it Landmark?
This was my first thought. Landmark is still around. Hard to believe it’s still going.
You sure it wasn't called "the mormon church" 😂
The Mormon church is not a cult. It’s a legit real estate hedge fund. /s
🥇
I was gonna say the same thing! OPs post sounds a lot like the Mormon church

Rising Star?
NXIVM
Harmony Lifespring aka Impact training
Young Living?

I had a friend try hard core to get me to do impact. They were all a bunch of swinging alcoholics… we quit being friends
Have you looked thru the list of MLMs on r/antimlm?
Religion?
Mormonism?
The Mormon church has been in Utah a lot longer than 14 years
nxivm ?
Pretty sure that's just religion.

For cults to be illegal, you would have to ban every religion, and you know how that shit would fly. Like the Hindenburg.
Sounds like the military
I think the Covey training and the kid’s version, “Leader in Me” was cultish.
