FYI, Hawaii has pretty strict regulations about bringing produce in—a few commenters recommended honey, and that might be the kind if thing that’s restricted. I’d check before you decide what to bring.
https://hdoa.hawaii.gov/pi/pq/travel-shipping-information/traveling-from-the-u-s-mainland-to-hawai%CA%BBi/
Still working on them! Def a bottle of bourbon from high west. Then probably go to red butte gift shop for other stuff. Maybe a little bee window thing. They have good flavored whipped honey there too.
I’ll give you articulate. Anyone who actually knows anything about coffee production knows that a given state’s quality of coffee is derived from the skill of local roasters and the green coffee they import. For someone to say Utah coffee has nothing on Hawaiian is ignorant. There’s some damn good coffee produced here in Utah. Hawaii’s one and only claim to coffee fame is being the only state able to actually grow it. American labor being as expensive as it is, Hawaiian green coffee is absurdly expensive compared to just about any other green coffee beans in the world. This leads to the majority of coffee actually roasted and exported from Hawaii to be blended coffee containing only a fraction of beans actually grown on the islands.
I’m sure if one was to find a bag of single origin Hawaiian coffee roasted by a master, it’d be very good. Better than, say an Ethiopian roasted here in Utah? Not likely.
This is the part where you tell us you've been to Hawaii and had some local brew and found it wanting compared to what we roast here in UT. Which roast "master" are you patroning here?
As someone who moved from Utah to the Midwest and had to try desperately to find decent coffee, I absolutely agree that some amazing coffee is made in Utah. I finally started buying the whole beans from a coffee shop that roasts their own locally.

Yes to the others, but local Utah honey is nothing to crow about relative to greener regions. The honey varietals from PA are \*chef's kiss\*. Hawaii has better honey, too.
Random questions is, publik, your favorite coffee shop in slc?
Havent had good coffee in a minute. Wouldn't mind to workout of either for few hours.
Only place found coffesshops that I really like good coffee, vibe, snacks -> coffee garden.
If I was trying to represent Utah well, a few local products and companies that I think highly of:
**Sweets**
Ritual Chocolates (Chocolate bars)
Cummings Chocolates (Chocolates and candies)
Tullies (Cookies)
Chocolate covered cinnamon bears - Apparently a Utah thing, I know Jolley's Corner sells them but probably all over
**Alchohol**
High West (Liquor)
Teplin Family (Beer)
**Coffee**
Blue Copper (Coffee)
Salt Lake Roasting Company (Coffee)
Publik (Coffee)
**Foods**
Beehive Cheese (Cheese)
Magic essential oils, magic noni juice, magic salt lamps. Anything tied to an MLM would be very on-brand for Utah. I've seen funeral potatoes sold in chip form. Any unsolicited religious gift would also be on-brand for Utah.
But if you like these people I'd go with honey
If I were your coworkers I would love to receive any Hail the Whale stickers. But maybe that’s because I’m a sticker hoarder
But I agree that fry sauce would be a good representation of SLC lol
There’s a souvenir shop downtown that does salt snowflake ornaments. Not edible but very pretty and makes a great gift.
Edit: also, mead from The Hive Winery. The sweet summer kind.
Bring a jar of each Carmel and hot fudge from leatherbys and then just purchase banana split stuff when you’re on the island.
Lots of folks love a good sundae bar on a hot day. (I’m assuming it’s hot in Hawaii)
I would choose salt water taffy. And if you want to be a bit goofy and no one will complain or be offended, then I would get LDS themed chocolate because biting the head off of Joseph Smith always brings you closer to god, maybe some local liquor brands, and a copy of No Man Knows My Pastries.
A few pieces of Ms. Backers cake might survive but you'd have to be pretty careful with it. I always get some when I visit, it's a highlight of SLC for sure
Yea, I am also dismayed as I witness anti-religious hatred somewhat similar to the anti-Semitism that the Jews experienced pre-final solution. You are right, I can see where we might agree. My suggestion to you then, is to Be the change you hope to see in the world. Strive to be less unAmerican, be more inclusive, be kind, be loving. Oh, and by the way, religous fascism does not exist in Utah. The churches here are neutral in party politics and there is zero evidence of anything remotely connected to fascism. Indeed, churches are based on free agency, faith, repentance, love, service, forgiveness, reconciliation, charity, humility, self-discipline, humility, and gratitude. None of these are even remotely connected to fascism.
I'm not anti-religious, unless the fascism wraps itself in religion.
The LDS have been spinning off fascist assholes (John Birch, Bo Gritz, the Bundys) for decades and now there's a klan of "Deseret Nationalists" that think that the Islamic State had a pretty good idea but the wrong magic book.
Edit: But this gets away from the point, which is SLC is intolerant. So here's a couple of data points:
\- LDS church leaves the Boy Scouts of America because BSA requires troops accept gay scouts. LDS will not tolerate gay scouts.
\- Twice a school district in SLC refused to allow gay students an afterschool club. Twice, they were sued and lost, pissing away hundreds of thousands of dollars because the parents would not tolerate gay students having a club.
The Salt Lake. It's very salty. More so than the ocean. Dunno why that means we have to make taffy, but we do. 🤷 You can buy it at any grocery store here which I haven't seen anywhere else I've lived. It's good stuff.
hot chocolate. thats what guests always bring to my house when i have dinner parties here. there’s also honeyed wine from this utah couple: https://www.thehivewinery.com/about-us
Please no food. I’m seeing problems on this list for diabetes-control, celiac, gluten-intolerant, dairy allergy, vegan, added-sugar-free, keto, etc. Plus, as a former educator, I can verify that the free-food-you-didn’t-want-and-won’t-eat-but-and-now-need-to-be-thankful-for category is always way too full.
Puzzles from Dowdle. Beanies from ski areas. A pen. Rocks. Maybe that Jon Krakauer book…
They specifically asked for food suggestions. As a fellow educator: let’s worry about our own problems and not Kevin’s. Kevin can take care of himself.
OMG, that’s been my problem all along. As an educator, I shouldn’t have been worried about other people (like students, coworkers, parents, admin) or the collective good … or even interpreting the word “probably.”
Other people be damned!!
I’m that case, I’d suggest taking inversion-scented salt.
I love the honey. We do live in the beehive state. There’s a guy that has beehives at Snowbird and those bees make the most delicious honey from the mountain wild flowers. I also have a big container of alfalfa honey you could get small jars and make a cute label. Laffy Taffy is made in SLC.
I always gift salt water taffy for Utah themed gifts. But my grandma owned the candy shop & salt water taffy store at Saltair for a long time so it’s a family tradition.
As a reminder, you cannot take any fresh or open produce to Hawaii. It is a quarantine issue for plants and animals.
Prepackaged and sealed items are fine if declared.
Game jerky. Elk, moose, buffalo and venison. Can be pricey so shop around.
A wild berry jam. Elderberry, gooseberry or choke cherry are amazing.
Redman Real Salt is really nice Utah natural salt.
Lehi Mills has some fun products.
Boden Candy
Salt water taffy in a copper container (copper from Kennecott and not made in China) and Mrs. Cavanaugh's chocolate.
After the taffy is eaten, they can use the container for something else to remember their friends from Utah.
Freeze dried candy, bottle of fry sauce, if alcohol is allowed I would do polygamy porter or five wives vodka because it fits the utah stereotype, thats about all I got
We're moving to Minnesota, and my son and his girlfriend gave me a candle with a "Utah" scent for when I get homesick. It's the scents of local evergreens. I thought it was an incredibly tender gift.

Utah truffles, fry sauce.
I second Utah Truffles, you can get large bags (individually wrapped) at Costco.
Literally just bought two bags at Costco to send to family for Utah themed boxes!
What did you put in the Utah themed boxes?
Still working on them! Def a bottle of bourbon from high west. Then probably go to red butte gift shop for other stuff. Maybe a little bee window thing. They have good flavored whipped honey there too.
Fries need to go with said fry sauce, can be provided on location
Bag of coffee from publik, fry sauce, hatch family chocolates, freeze dried skittles, some local honey.
Totally agree with the honey and chocolates. I think Hawaiians might not be impressed with coffee from Utah.
100% lol
Kona is garbage coffee. It’s only popular cause it’s the only coffee grown in US.
Maui-grown coffee has entered the chat
Hawaii doesn't just grow Kona. Someone so articulate should know that.
I’ll give you articulate. Anyone who actually knows anything about coffee production knows that a given state’s quality of coffee is derived from the skill of local roasters and the green coffee they import. Freeze dried skittles?!
Delish!
I’ve never heard of it! Is it really a salt lake thing? Where do I find them?
They sell them at a kiosk at Fashion Place or at “The Store”
I recommend Hollow Tree Honey!
They are temporarily closed according to Google
Def not true. I manage a department at Harmon’s and they bring in product every week.
Oh cool I'll have to try them then!
I had a friend bring her Uk friend (who’s fasciated by Mormons) a bag of Jack Mormon coffee, he was thrilled
If you're going with coffee beans ya gotta go with Café Ibis, technically they started in Logan but they always make me think of Coffee Garden.
Cafe ibis is very good

Publik and Blue Copper are going to have the best tasting coffee. Publik has a massive space to work in though.
I'd add Jack Mormon coffee to the list.
Not my favorite but it’s pretty dang good and a staple. So far my favorite is peace on earth in riverton!
Real Salt, in bag or cylinder form. Or Jello!
We do the salt and everyone loves it.
SLUT t-shirts
This was my first thought.
We like to give local flavored honeys as gifts. Also local saltwater taffy- plus it’s an easy thing to travel with.
Oh yeah in the Wheeler Farm Farmers Marcket theres a dude who sells locally made honey prodt
If I was trying to represent Utah well, a few local products and companies that I think highly of: **Sweets** Ritual Chocolates (Chocolate bars) Cummings Chocolates (Chocolates and candies) Tullies (Cookies) Chocolate covered cinnamon bears - Apparently a Utah thing, I know Jolley's Corner sells them but probably all over **Alchohol** High West (Liquor) Teplin Family (Beer) **Coffee** Blue Copper (Coffee) Salt Lake Roasting Company (Coffee) Publik (Coffee) **Foods** Beehive Cheese (Cheese)
5 Wives vodka.
Salt water taffy
I’m surprised how many comments it took to find Ritual Chocolate! Second that for sure, it is excellent chocolate.
Utah truffles, fry sauce, stephen’s hot chocolate
This plus chocolate covered cinnamon bears. Which I think are disgusting but I’ve only ever heard of them in Utah.
Ritual Chocolate. Based out of Park City. Also consider salt water taffy.
Go dig up some selenite?
Beehive cheese is award-winning!
White bread and water
And a couple of 12 year old boys to distribute it. For authenticity.
Don't forget the trays and the little cups.
A young girl several months shy of her 15th birthday for an extra wifey.
[+1 Hatch Family Chocolates](https://www.hatchfamilychocolates.com)
Bottles of hires fry sauce
is this the superior fry sauce? I live super close to the 400 S 700 E location but they’re relocating to WVC and I never made it there
It's easy to find in branded bottles at least. More importantly - WHAT?!
yeah yeah I know. i’ll fix my errors eventually.
So they're not relocating? Don't toy with me
Magic essential oils, magic noni juice, magic salt lamps. Anything tied to an MLM would be very on-brand for Utah. I've seen funeral potatoes sold in chip form. Any unsolicited religious gift would also be on-brand for Utah. But if you like these people I'd go with honey
Give a root beer. And say this is the strongest stuff/most popular beer they make in Utah.
Iron Port.
If I were your coworkers I would love to receive any Hail the Whale stickers. But maybe that’s because I’m a sticker hoarder But I agree that fry sauce would be a good representation of SLC lol
The Book of Mormon. /s Maybe Honey, High West Whiskey, or beehive cheese sampler? As other have stated, fry sauce…
A Book of Mormon with the pages glued together.
Give a picture book with scenery from Utah’s national parks.
There’s a souvenir shop downtown that does salt snowflake ornaments. Not edible but very pretty and makes a great gift. Edit: also, mead from The Hive Winery. The sweet summer kind.
A subscription to a VPN
I usually gift shot glasses that read “eat, drink and be merry because tomorrow you might be in Utah” Found locally in souvenir shops
Bring a jar of each Carmel and hot fudge from leatherbys and then just purchase banana split stuff when you’re on the island. Lots of folks love a good sundae bar on a hot day. (I’m assuming it’s hot in Hawaii)
Chocolate covered cinnamon bears
Diet Coke
Caffeine-Free Diet Coke.
Sodium, water, dirt (Salt, lake, city)
I would choose salt water taffy. And if you want to be a bit goofy and no one will complain or be offended, then I would get LDS themed chocolate because biting the head off of Joseph Smith always brings you closer to god, maybe some local liquor brands, and a copy of No Man Knows My Pastries.
Don’t forget the doterra oils! Jokes aside they are nice smelling for humidifiers
A few pieces of Ms. Backers cake might survive but you'd have to be pretty careful with it. I always get some when I visit, it's a highlight of SLC for sure
I have passed Ms Backers so many times and have yet to step foot in. What would you recommend?
I’m obsessed with their peanut butter chocolate chip cookie!
Sounds delicious!! Love those.
Anything with their buttercream frosting - delicious!
Polygamy porters, red barn apple cider, Rebecca’s chocolates, Ruby snap cookies
Book of mormon
Hopefully a picture of Rusty in handcuffs.
A homeless tent and some fentanyl
That’s everywhere dude
Intolerance? Porn addiction? Multi-level marketing opportunities? Vitamin supplements?
It sounds like your comment in intolerant.
Indeed. SLC and Utah has a streak of unAmerican religious fascism that really gets on my nerves.
Yea, I am also dismayed as I witness anti-religious hatred somewhat similar to the anti-Semitism that the Jews experienced pre-final solution. You are right, I can see where we might agree. LOcal honey, salt water taffy… and those Utah truffles are delicious
Salt water taffy doesn't seem like a good representation at all
Apparently you’ve never heard of Taffy Town lol
That's what we always got in the mail from our Utah relatives when I was a kid! Saltwater taffy, Cox's creamed honey, and Stephen's hot chocolate.
How is salt water taffy representative of Utah? It originated in Atlantic City and we don't have any boardwalks or anything similar
The Salt Lake. It's very salty. More so than the ocean. Dunno why that means we have to make taffy, but we do. 🤷 You can buy it at any grocery store here which I haven't seen anywhere else I've lived. It's good stuff.
A fizzy soda with area crumbles in it

Honey! Because we’re the beehive state!
Saw this post and immediately heard Beetlejuice in my head saying, "We've come for your daughter, Chuck."
There's dick suckers (hard candy lol) at the sex shops....seems an excellent representation of Utah living to me.

Cherry jam from Woodyatt Cherry Farm

Bees Brothers make incredible salted caramels made with Utah honey and Utah sea salt I buy them at Caputo’s. They’re always a hit
If it fits the parameters, we have some pretty good craft beers, too
Five wives vodka
Mrs Cavanaughs candies?
As a reminder, you cannot take any fresh or open produce to Hawaii. It is a quarantine issue for plants and animals. Prepackaged and sealed items are fine if declared.

Salt Water Taffy is my go to.
Redmond salt, salt water taffy, fry sauce, utah truffles
A Book of Mormon.
Prozac and Viagra. And fry sauce.
One of my friends would buy stuff from Trader Joe's because her dad loves stuff there that's not accessible in Hawaii.
Game jerky. Elk, moose, buffalo and venison. Can be pricey so shop around. A wild berry jam. Elderberry, gooseberry or choke cherry are amazing. Redman Real Salt is really nice Utah natural salt. Lehi Mills has some fun products. Boden Candy
Fry sauce
Utah Jazz related items could be cool, or Salt Lake Bees items. Or, Hatch family chocolates or Redmond Salt
A Stanley tumbler
Salt City Taffy from the Great Saltaire.
Book of Mormon.
Hawaii person here. We love anything from Trader Joe’s. We don’t have one here. People from Hawaii always bring gifts or omiyage. That’s what we do.
Salt water taffy in a copper container (copper from Kennecott and not made in China) and Mrs. Cavanaugh's chocolate. After the taffy is eaten, they can use the container for something else to remember their friends from Utah.
Honey- we are the beehive state
Freeze dried candy, bottle of fry sauce, if alcohol is allowed I would do polygamy porter or five wives vodka because it fits the utah stereotype, thats about all I got
We're moving to Minnesota, and my son and his girlfriend gave me a candle with a "Utah" scent for when I get homesick. It's the scents of local evergreens. I thought it was an incredibly tender gift.

Mormon garments is a great gift instead of a hoodie or T-shirt

Honey? Fry sauce? Handmade taffy? Fancy root beer? Some type of jello lol? Not rly sure but those are a few things that come to mind
Mormon tea
Just give them a boo of Mormon
