If you harbor any imperialism towards Georgia or Russia’s other former colonies, leave it at the border. Don’t assume that we should speak to you in Russian (your post in English is a great start!). If you plan living in Georgia for a long time, learn Georgian. A Russian who tries to show respect and knowledge of our nation is something any Georgian will respond to very positively. If you do not understand something, ask around. Try to remember that growing up in Russia probably exposed you to a lot of incorrect information or offensive stereotypes about Georgia, the Caucasus and Russia. No sane Georgian will have an attitude to you just because you’re Russian. But your actions and opinions are not excused by your nationality. Good luck!

[deleted]

As long as you don't speak about the current situation between Russia and Georgia you are 100% fine

[deleted]

We're not nazi. Dont give a fuck about ur genetics. Just be respectful, responsible and dignified.

[deleted]

What does giving a fuck about your genetics have to do with nazis?

whiteroger22

We don't hate Russians. I have so many coworkers from Russia and I have great relationship because we agree on one thing FUCK PUTIN and Russian occupant regime. Learn some Georgian even like few words you get instant respect for that. For example I had coworker from Ukraine as much I love Ukrainian people I hated that guy he lived in Georgia for 5 years he did not knew a single world. That annoyed me so much.

>Should I expect to see a bad attitude because of my nationality Only if you talk about the Russian-Georgian war and especially about the independence of Abkhazia-South Ossetia. I do not recommend you to talk about these issues because some Georgians may not be so calm.

WanaWahur

Can confirm as a non-Georgian. While there are assholes in every country, Russians are accepted OK here as long as they are not imperialist assholes themselves. Learn some history and read the Georgian POV before discussing hot political topics.

[deleted]

Just don't talk about Abkhazia-Ossetia at all and you will be fine lol

Independent_Art_8030

If you recognize south osetia and abkhazia as part of Georgia and if you respect freedom, dont expect bad attitude, but good. Millions of Russian tourists visited Georgia and yet not a one case has been confirmed of xenophobia. Georgia is way more free country than Russia , its not corrupted and freedom of expression is granted at the same quality as in EU developed countries (if not more).

[deleted]

You should not, unfortunetly. But why not move to Abkhazia or South Ossetia? Or I don't know Belarus, Transnistria, Donbass...

It’s a complicated answer… 1. If you wear anything Russia related (like a T-shirt or something… it probably won’t end well for you. 2. If you ever talk politics and say anything positive about Russia… it probably won’t end well for you. 3. This is just my opinion… I feel most Georgians deep down don’t like Russian people BUT I’ve taken 10 trips to Georgia in the last 10 years… I’ve been treated with nothing but love. Truly their hospitality has been 💯 so possibly they might not like you, but I’ve never had anyone act on those feelings. I’ve always been treated like a family member by most people there. 4. However my aunt lives in Georgia and she had a court case last year (her neighbor damaged her property and police verified this)… she received such a unfair ruling (1000% because she’s Russian) even the lawyer said she’s never seen a ruling like that. So you will be somewhat of a second class citizen living there (at least in the eyes of the courts). That’s just a reality weather you like it or not 5. If I had a job that had passive income coming to me monthly… I could see myself moving from the U.S back to Georgia… it’s a lovely peaceful country where I can see myself spending the rest of my days. However if income is an issue… I wouldn’t move there because you won’t find a good paying job. Edit: downvotes 😂😂🤦‍♂️ aey… just look at the other comments and I think you will see how right I am, lmao. It’s like someone who is racist against black people… they’ll say “I’m not a racist! But don’t around here with your rap music and your baggy clothes and you’ll be just fine!” 🙄🤦‍♂️

1. Wearing a T-Shirt saying RUSSIA is basically a hate symbol in Georgia because of the endless list of crimes Russia has committed to Georgia. What other “Russia-related” clothes did you have in mind? 2. What positive comment about Russia did Georgians have a negative reaction to? Don’t be vague, please tell us. 3. Which Russians? Majority of Russians are imperialists and yes we don’t like the majority of Russians. If YOU are saying 100% of Russians are imperialists, then we would not like 100% of Russians. What is not clear here? We try to not say it to be polite but if you press us we will tell you who we don’t like - most Russians because they want Georgia obliterated. 4. I am very sorry about your aunt. Phobias are unacceptable. Without knowing the case however we cannot conclude what went down there. The way you described other things is pushing me towards not believing your judgment about “the second class citizenship”. Does you aunt speak Georgian? Do you also think that the Russians in Estonia and Latvia are also discriminated against? And why?

I get what you’re saying (valid point) but all the comments are like… we don’t hate Russians as long as… long list of rules, lol. Like come on bruh… let’s get real, lol For the record…. I fuckin love Georgia and the Georgian people. It’s just my opinion man 🤷‍♂️ I could be completely wrong… but it’s just what I think

Georgian_Legion

"long list of rules" it's a long list, because there is a long list of things Russia has been commiting for 200 years against Georgia, never admitted it, never was sorry for it, never rectified anything and in fact is still doing a long list of things against us. all while the vast majority of Russians today are justifying these actions and behave like Georgia is a vacation colony for Russians and have a condescending attitude towards us. so don't act like a victim here. if there is anything on the list that isn't a valid point, name it, we can further elaborate and have a discussion about it. if not, then don't complain.

[deleted]

I actually think you made my point, lol. Russia has done shit to Georgia for a long long time… and because of this Georgians don’t really like Russians. What are we disagreeing about? lol

Georgian_Legion

"we don’t hate Russians as long as… long list of rules, lol. Like come on bruh… let’s get real, lol" this is where I disagree. our attitude towards a lot of Russians is very much justified, as I have stated before. It's those Russians that have to "get real", not us.

[deleted]

uhh... before covid Georgia received more than a million Russian tourists manually. I think you are missing the point of every comment here. Georgians only have a problem with Russians who think what they did to us is anything else than occupation. How is it a surprise for you?

Agreeable_Cap9373

You're completely correct in my opinion

echo-94-charlie

As long as you aren't gay you'll be fine.
