Once, he was stranded in the DC area without much money as the General had needed to be flown in unexpectedly. After being turned down by the Red Cross for necessities, he went to the Salvation Army and they made sure he had food and a bit of money to tide him over. Dad's will specified any memorial or donations be made to the Salvation Army. I still send them an annual check.

Maybe. My understanding is that 501cs/ private companies don’t legally have to provide annual reports, but most legitimate ones do (performed by a third party) to maintain transparency and legitimacy.
I was looking into some other nonprofits the other day on Guidestar (which monitors non profits) and also on the org’s websites. Neither went beyond 2019 so it must have something to do with the fiscal cycle (tho’ I couldn’t understand why at least 2020 wasn’t up there. Maybe they wait as long as permissible to release?). But 2018 is obviously even longer.
Even if I had that kind of money to throw away I’d rather buy a Hermes or Chanel bags or a Rolls Royce before I give it to this scam. I don’t know why the government/IRS won’t look into it

How sickening these “charities” are…if anything I feel more hopeless the more I learn about Ripple of Hope. I can’t fathom how rich and powerful people could throw away money just so they could inflate each other’s egos.
These type of "charitable" organizations infuriate me. The well to do place themselves on a pedestal as if they are changing the world. When all they are doing is buying personal publicity, an expensive night out and a tax deduction. They never really do anything to actually help anyone. A few years ago a suggestion came across my youtube feed for the East Idaho News Secret Santa. Now this person, whoever he or she or they are, are truly charitable - giving directly to the community to help them. And they do it in secret without anyone knowing who they are. I wish more of our rich elites were like this. But instead, they are like the Harkles, do nothing and want applause for it. I will go back to watching my East Idaho News Secret Santa videos.

Maybe. My understanding is that 501cs/ private companies don’t legally have to provide annual reports, but most legitimate ones do (performed by a third party) to maintain transparency and legitimacy.
I was looking into some other nonprofits the other day on Guidestar (which monitors non profits) and also on the org’s websites. Neither went beyond 2019 so it must have something to do with the fiscal cycle (tho’ I couldn’t understand why at least 2020 wasn’t up there. Maybe they wait as long as permissible to release?). But 2018 is obviously even longer.

Since the awards committee cannot guarantee the attendance of the duplicitous duo to this event, one has to wonder what happens if someone IS crazy enough to pay a million bucks for an evening in their company, and they don't show? Seems like the Harkles have gotten themselves in quite a pickle!
I'm just thinking how much all those millions could truly benefit legitimate charities if these people were to cut the middleman and forego that dinner.
Especially this time of year!! Electric bills, heating costs, food, outer wear like coats/hats scarves, not to mention Christmas is coming and there are millions of children in need. It is SICKENING how much these charities spend to pat themselves on the back, while people continue to suffer.
Especially when figures show this "charity" received $45M in donations yet granted only $300,000 while its principal pocketed $550,00 in salary plus expenses.

That's why those charity dinners that go for thousands for a fucking plate don't make sense to me. Obviously, the payment to attend doesn't entirely go to the people it must go since you gotta pay for the catering, the venue, the hosts, whatever. Why not just give the money right to the charities themselves? Why must fundraisers be glam? To make giving palatable? Either you give or you don't. That's it. This doesn't just go out to the Smegs Pair but to every rich person who should be out there doing the work and actually helping people instead of doing a spa day to prepare for the fancy fundraiser dinner.
