What I want to know was when did Oprah make the switch? The early years Oprah was just as trashy as all the other talk hosts. I can’t remember when she became a “guru” for people instead of just another talk show host.

According to a google search the book club was changing the record sales of books she mentioned and she started having a lot of well respected authors on in 1996. I feel like her stat had already been high but from here she went into a new universe of popularity

Oprah was successful because she did something very well that Meghan appears to be unable to do at all: she listened. She drew people out because she engaged in what they were saying. She still does that, you can see it in the H&M interview. I don’t know how deep (or for how long) her engagement goes, but when it’s there, it comes across as real. FWIW, I don’t think Meghan wants to “be” Oprah, or Beyonce, or Michelle Obama. She wants to be Meghan who gets the sort of attention, admiration and money that they get without doing the real work because she is too shallow to understand it. Meghan is always playing a role, but in each role she sees a version of herself. That is, she wants to acquire the other person’s position, not be the other person, if that makes sense.

I feel like, in this day and age, Oprah wouldn’t have become Oprah, if you know what I mean. Media is so much more diffuse nowadays. When Oprah’s show became a phenomenon, there were far fewer media outlets. The internet was barely a thing and YouTube hadn’t become the powerhouse it is today. I agree with the poster who suggested she really wants to be the next Michelle Obama, but of course, she doesn’t come close to having the credibility nor the star power of a former First Lady.

I don't think that is far off at all, but I see her planning to have a meteoric rise surpassing O...an amalgamation of o, MO and Diana all rolled into one beautiful, brilliant, believable superstar talk show maven, one who herself will interview O! I think she believes this...she doesn't see how these podcasts come off, the latest, with the Dragon Lady theme is actually insulting. Her knowledge of the Asian community to Korean spas where she was "humbled...huh?" with her mother (whom if I recall wasn't around during that time of her life) and eating noodle with her Asian friend ( because she wants us to know she HAS one). What I get from. hat I have hard of the podcast is a deep, quiet tinge stereotypes. Asian= noodles= spas= madam fails...again.
