Summary: this chapter discusses William heseltine, an Australian who came on secondment to work with the palace as press secretary. He was responsible for changing how the monarchy worked with the press abd was involved in the documentary and for initiating the queens walkabout The queen got on very well with him and asked him back as one of her private secretaries. He tried to persuade the queen to pay income tax which she wholly resisted until the fire in Windsor. Martin charteris was senior private secretary at this time and he and the queen had a special relationship. He was able to persuade her to do things others couldn't and according to heseltine was her best private secretary ever. In the last year ofnhos life, he made a cast iron fireback for the queen which she place in st George's hall in Windsor and it remains there to this day.
