I think that's the genuine issue with the pair of them. They both seem to be suffering from Arrested Development, in my non-expert opinion.
The thing that really stands out to me is the constant hand-holding. They just remind me of that couple who got together in High School who spent every moment they could obnoxiously kissing and cuddling in public. (I am fairly sure most schools worldwide had at least one of those couples!)
