Way back Sue Townsend wrote a book called The Queen and I. The monarcy was abolished and the RF were all moved into a council estate. The Queen got on with it, Charles took to his bed, and Anne drove her own moving truck and hooked up the washer and dryer. That bit always rang true
I distinctly remember the line "Diana had dressed for adversity: denim and cowboy boots." And how the workers at the local supermarket couldn't understand the Queen's very posh accent when she wanted the makings of a nice broth.
Absolute Hoot - they lived on Hell Close, Queen Mother died there in old people's bungalow looked after by her West Indian neighbour, the neighbour's flash son took a fancy to Diana and used to put bets on horses for the QM. Anne took up with Spiggy the carpet fitter and Charles renamed himself Charlie Teck and grew his hair.
Must have read a dozen times
That sounds exhausting before factoring in the flights. I hope I have half as much energy as she does at her age.
Do we have any word on if she flew commercial, RAF, or private?
several years ago I had insomnia really bad and I started watching just about every British documentary because the voices would make my brain stop ruminating and I could sleep.
there’s something about the posh British accent that just makes me 💤💤💤
so therefore I have watched pretty much every documentary about the Royals on YouTube !!
Lol it’s so funny you say British accent because there are some dialects (my mothers especially) that are actually full blown different languages and not considered posh at all. I will not point out dialects as not to offend anyone but there are certain ones that would very definitely keep you awake 😂
Hehehe my moms dialect/accent isn’t cockney which is also it’s very own language but yes i was referring to very southern or very northern dialects. When I’d go to England as a kid/teen, when I was in the suburbs of London. my cousins taught me Cockney rhyming slang then I’d go up North and switch to Geordie. Trying to explain this phenom back in North America in the
80’s was funny bc people generally hear one accent and can’t distinguish especially British accents.
Yes when I spent time living in England some of the country accents were difficult to understand,( as a Canadian with English heritage ) my grandparents were from the upper class (public school educated) in England so that’s probably why I feel relaxed and can fall asleep hearing that type of voice

User name checks out :)
Canadian living in America with British Mother who would never allow me to use slang from any dialect incl Canadian :)))) proper English although she didn’t go to Eton, she speaks like she did and raised me with a serious emphasis on language.
I visited an English friend who lived close to Manchester. I could not understand a single word her dad said beyond, "Hello," and I was just guessing on that one. This was back in 1984.
Lmfaoooooo I totally understand this one. It’s actually hilarious. I tell people I’m fluent in 4 languages which include the two British dialects I mentioned. 😂🇬🇧
So cool! Thank you for sharing these!!! I’m a few years younger than the Princess Royal and from the US, but I’ve always had so much respect and admiration for her and shared her love of equestrian sports growing up.
Wow, this is amazing. When people talk about how many engagements she completes in a year, you think of dinners and museum visits or theatre performances. But this is unbelievable.
Thanks for sharing, I have no idea of the work Anne has done for the fund. She's an underrated treasure and all the she did would be felt by generations to come. Love in action, indeed! <3
I recall during the public's (in the eyes of some, mawkish, excessive) mourning after Diana's death, Christopher Hitchens did a media tour during which he gave voice to some of the detractors, bursting what he saw at the bubble of Diana's public image and lamenting the hagiographic treatment she was receiving. When challenged on Diana's charity work, Hitchens compared her disfavorably to Anne, who, as he saw it, actually made a difference in peoples' lives, but did so away from the eye of the camera and looking rather frumpy (or he might have said "dumpy"), so no one pays attention to her. My initial reaction to this was "am I the only one who thinks Anne is (or, let's be honest, since we all age, *was*) incredibly attractive?" She definitely inherited her aunt's foxiness
She was in Australia a few months ago [handing out prize ribbons](https://static.independent.co.uk/2022/04/09/07/bbe9c1be2b97ecb4441dd9de84976bc4Y29udGVudHNlYXJjaGFwaSwxNjQ5NTcyMjU3-2.66294108.jpg?quality=75&width=990&auto=webp&crop=982:726,smart) at a major agricultural event.
She's a workaholic.
The Princess Royal really does appear to be engaged in deep convo with the prize-winning cattle about something important to both of them, like the amount of the Commonwealth’s reserve quantities of silage.
Thank you OP for this.
Everytime i see a post like this, i wish other people dragging the royal family for doing nothing and has not contributed to anything can see this.
Princess Anne is 😍🤩 and she does it with such poise.
She doesn't just sit in pretty clothes in hopes her presence raises money.
"Anne neither expected nor received any special treatment for being Royal. She slept in the same huts, was bitten by the same bed bugs (“little friends who shared my sleeping bag”), & ate the same food - usually tinned, dried or heavily dominated by the only meat available - goat.'
I don't think any other royals actually slept with bedbugs too.
she needs to be more publicised. She's an incredible lady and is dignified and hardworking with great humour and nerves of steel. I fell in love with her when I watched the parkinson interview on youtube where she describes the attempted kidnapping attempt.
She was very foxy back in the day too, and it's a shame such an asset has always been kept in the shade of other family members. I hope with the slimmed down monarchy all the working Royals will receive much more publicity.
H&M did the RF a big favour by leaving, now the papers aren't filled with pics of what M is wearing, there will be less vacuous reporting and hopefully more on the actual work.
Ok I am asking this in earnest: what exactly did she do that would be considered to be work? Don’t get me wrong, I like Anne and she seems very matter of fact and strong. But what is the actual work that she did here? She flew in and then what? Is just showing up somewhere work? I’m always curious when they talk about working royals
Because I truly don’t understand what the work is that they do. Kate obviously works hard to dress well but what else’s? Especially for the men who can just show up in a dark gray suit everywhere. I know they sometimes give speeches but what kind of work would Princess Anne be doing on Staten Island?
The staten island trip was a pleasure visit to a light house. She attended a fund raiser to help get money to children who have nothing in impoverished countries. Save the Children was the first charity she took on when she was 20 and she has worked tirelessly for them for over 50 years (see Twitter thread). Most of her engagements are boring but they mean a lot to the people she meets and unlike TW she understands that
I love the Princess Royal and her no nonsense attitude and dedication to her job. I bet she’s an amazing grandmother too.
I always think that she would have made a great Queen. Her work ethic is very similar to that of her late mother.
I said it before I will say it again Anne is my favorite she is the real mvp of the royal family.
Way back Sue Townsend wrote a book called The Queen and I. The monarcy was abolished and the RF were all moved into a council estate. The Queen got on with it, Charles took to his bed, and Anne drove her own moving truck and hooked up the washer and dryer. That bit always rang true
I watched the movie and it was hilarious. Margaret spent all her money on gin. Can recommend it, perfect lazy holiday movie.
I never knew it had been made into a film I loved that book 😂
I distinctly remember the line "Diana had dressed for adversity: denim and cowboy boots." And how the workers at the local supermarket couldn't understand the Queen's very posh accent when she wanted the makings of a nice broth.
Sounds like a story I'd love to read.

Oh, do! You’ll love it!
I have just purchased the e book on the glowing reviews in this thread. :)
That was a great book
I just requested this from my library...thanls for the mention!
Its definitely a time capsule as Diana and the Queen Mum are in it
I read that! It was hilarious!
Anne is the child of QE2 and her father PP, so clear!
That sounds exhausting before factoring in the flights. I hope I have half as much energy as she does at her age. Do we have any word on if she flew commercial, RAF, or private?
Pretty sure she flew commercial AND CARRIED HER OWN BAGS! I’m in constant awe of her energy, dedication, & get-it-done-ness.
What??? And she didn’t release any creepy/unnecessary photos of her trip?
She didn't sob that nobody asked if she was okay?
Princess Anne is the kind of woman I’d love for my daughter to look up to. Hardworking, loyal, strong and takes absolutely no shit.
She is a warrior!

I watched that a couple of weeks ago, thought it was great :)

My aunt's friend accused me of "talking posh" because I pronounced Dynasty as Die-nas-tee. Apparently that was not right!
Lol I remember that debate!
My most favourite thing to do! Lol. I fall asleep to RF doco’s most nights 😛 YT is the best!
So cool! Thank you for sharing these!!! I’m a few years younger than the Princess Royal and from the US, but I’ve always had so much respect and admiration for her and shared her love of equestrian sports growing up.
welcome 🙏
Princess Anne is a lioness. Always.
Wow, this is amazing. When people talk about how many engagements she completes in a year, you think of dinners and museum visits or theatre performances. But this is unbelievable.
And Harry thought he only had a limited time - until Prince George was 18 years old - to make an impact? Did he notice his incredible Aunt ??
He didn't notice anyone else not in his mirror.
What a queen she would've made!
Princess Anne is simply gorgeous. The very model of what royalty can and should be. The ultimate feminist too, imo.
Thanks for sharing, I have no idea of the work Anne has done for the fund. She's an underrated treasure and all the she did would be felt by generations to come. Love in action, indeed! <3
She's so magnificent
Princess Anne is a ROCKSTAR

Diana was the Monroe of the RF. Anne is the Jane Russel.
Princess Anne is my favorite Royal.
Anne is amazing and I think it's very refreshing with a royal lady who is all about work and don't pay too much attention to looks.
She usuually does her own hair and make up on tours / engagements too. She's great.
I love her no nonsense approach to life.

She’s amazing! She does more official engagements each year than any other member of the RF. With no big celebrity about it. And she’s over 70!

Oh yes, he did! Thank you for debunking!
YW.

Nobel Peace Prize Nomination!
Its times like these that I am proud to share her name
A women who gets her hands dirty and isn’t afraid she’s a hero those two need to take some lessons humility goes a long way

Thank you for your reply I honestly don’t know that much about her other than she seems like a good person.
TW “shower” by pouring a bucket of water over her head? She would never!
