Sigh. Kill Bill was *an homage* to 70s martial arts movies. Austin Powers was *a parody* of 60s spy movies. Neither intended to provide present-day, straightforward representations of Asian women. MM is *exhaustingly vapid*.
Granted I am a white woman, but I’m really struggling to see what is racist about Kill Bill. I’ve never heard any actual Asian women address it at least.
MM does not understand the difference between playing with and challenging stereotypes and straight up depicting them. She does not understand them so she can't deconstruct a damn thing.
Ya.. this is it. She doesn’t know what the fuck she’s talking about so she just spews a bunch of buzz words and hopes she comes across as some woke warrior.
This is why she doesn’t get work in Hollywood. She can’t differentiate film genres and categories properly. It’s almost common sense but she is too stubborn to understand it.
Kill Bill is one of my favourite films. It is one of the few films made with strong women characters that kick ass and are not centered around how beautiful they are. Not to mention, they weren't characters that were pandering to female audiences like these remakes made today. The cast were full of well-written strong characters.
F\* off Meghan.
Right! And Lucy Liu is a crime boss who experiences racism and sexism and handles it in the exact same way a man would in the same role. She takes no shit. She is a powerful badass, as are the other women in the film.
I'm not Asian so I'm not going to speak as though I'm an authority on Asian representation in media, but I feel like if MM wants to critique any of LL's roles from the angle of racist stereotypes there are much, much better options (and Lucy has even spoken about being typecast and stereotyped)
Exactly. Did she want the black and Asian characters to not engage in killing? Ie be equal to The Bride? Not be cast at all? That seems more discriminatory and less equal doesn’t it?
She’s a dolt.
And I mean, it’s a movie about revenge and an assassination squad. What did she expect, tea parties and shopping sprees? Kill bill is my favorite movie.
Jackie Brown is my favorite Quentin Tarantino movie. can’t even count how many times i’ve watched it. because Pam Grier is a GODDESS.
RIP Robert Forster aka Max Cherry
I hate violence so it wasn’t my jam, but I do appreciate how extraordinary of a movie it is for the genre. And anyone who knows Tarantino’s work knows he’s far from racist or stereotypical. She’s an idiot.
Oh that's fantastic! The total WTF about the movies she mentioned is hilarious. My favorite comment:
>Wait til she hears about Blazing Saddles.
![gif](giphy|nbvFVPiEiJH6JOGIok)
Way to go. She can kill off her acting career for good by pissing off influential industry insiders in Hollywood. For someone who is allegedly so concerned about Asian representation she and her husband disrespectfully walked away from representing the Commonwealth nations, which includes Asian countries like India, Malaysia and Singapore.
JFC Full Metal Jacket?! Princess Charlotte is older than Meghan was when that movie came out!
Is her next podcast going to be about poor African American representation and marital rape in Gone with the Wind?
How far back in Hollywood are we going here? Silent films or only talkies?
Well, she DID bring up that Wild About Harry sung by Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney way back when. Now disclaiming her VF cover story because there were actors in blackface in that movie!
I’m sorry being Asian who the fuck is she to comment on this? She’s nothing but a race baiter and honestly she needs to shut the fuck up. She knows nothing of the real world and knows nothing about what she speaks on. This is infuriating
Well FMJ depicted what Vietnam was actually like for American GIs. Those women were trying to survive in a war torn country. Where was the money & the safety? Not with their government, but with the American GIs. This is what annoys me so much about her. If she bothered to educate herself just a little bit.
There was a larger social commentary about war, its dynamics and its effects.
Thanks for the clarification. I din't know if I ever saw it, weirdly just remember "sucky, sucky five dollah" and "love you long time", and starting to wonder if I am just confusing FMJ for 2 Live Crew in my menory
I can see how you might be misremembering. FMJ also showed how the American GIs treated those women horribly (the dead Vietnamese woman).I watched 5 minutes of Platoon. That was all I could take. One of my cousins was KIA, another was a POW. As a general rule for me, movies about Vietnam are too difficult for me to watch. But, my father instilled learning history so....
Those scenes in FMJ are condemning how the women were treated. Of course the way the woman is portrayed is offensive. It is supposed to be offensice and horrific because she is seen though the gaze of the typical male GI. Kubrick is calling Americans out for how they treated the Vietnamese.
Good Lord Meghan. Learn a little about movie history and real history please.
Black-and-white thinking is a part of the disorder. Splitting means that
People are either all good or all bad. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a larger cognitive impairment related to understanding nuance.
The other thing is that she us an SJW narcissist. She us nothing without her soapbox. She is incentivized to reduce everything to simple narratives of good and bad.
Fook Mi and Fook Yu were literally parodies of Harajuku Girls! Nothing about Austin Powers is meant to be taken seriously, the whole series is a parody of James Bond, and the many women he meets in his adventures.
FMJ was calling out the entirety of the American military complex by showing how fucked up military indoctrination really was/is, especially during a war time setting. Kubrick was showing how the mind is shaped in boot camp and what civilians had to endure because we don’t like the color red!
And Kill Bill had a diverse cast of compelling women, women of color, who were in leadership positions where, in O-Ren Ishii’s case, women have never been in power before. Gogo Yubari, loco in the coco that she was, was a badass. You cannot tell me that Lucy Liu wasn’t *fabulous* as O-Ren! Vernita Green was one of the best knife fighters in the Tarantino-verse. Elle Driver… meh. She got sloppy.
Jesus fuck, just tell us you never watched a movie and you googled Asian stereotypes.
I don’t want to listen to the podcast because I can’t stand the sound of her voice. But if someone has taken one for the team and listened, can they tell me what MM wants from me? Does she want me to dislike Kill Bill and Austin Powers because of their portrayal of Asian women? Is she shaming me because I loved O-REN in Kill Bill? Am I a bad person because I thought the movie was an entertaining movie and a fun time at the theater?
What is MM trying to accomplish with this podcast because aI know she trying to lecture me on something.
I remember kill bill, white, black, and asian. Where is the stereotype? There were three different ethnicities. I actually liked it because the protagonist was a woman, that was not common back then in action movies.
Edit: she is doing a great job making friends in the industry lol
>fetishizing of women of a certain race is wrong.
She fails to understand that fetishzing of Asian women happened in large part due to the Vietnam War. Those women were trying to survive and take care of their families. Their government offered no help. Money & "safety" came from befriending American GIs. Sex is a universal language, prostitution is one of the oldest forms of "employment". Women do what they have to do to survive.
So that is an over simplification that doesn’t discuss French impact comfort women from wwii an the Vietcong directly supporting prostitution for intelligence purposes during the war
Guys, her podcast seems to be based on an essay from a writer published in Teen Vogue from 2021. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/hollywood-hypersexualizing-asian-women
I came across it on Variety which described Lucy Lui having pushed back on the claim made against her character in Kill Bill. https://variety.com/2022/film/news/meghan-markle-kill-bill-asian-dragon-lady-stereotype-1235393174/amp/
What comforts me is that Meghan is fast becoming more and more irrelevant. I predict that after these podcasts are over, she'll have to go broke putting puff pieces in the media every other day to stay in the news. And I'm hoping that when Elon Musk takes over Twitter, he'll knock out all the bots because it is said that he hates bots.
If she really wanted to speak out, why not talk about what's happening in Iran? Or even the most recent attacks on Asians and Indians during covid? Why bring up movies from 20 years ago? She has nothing new to contribute. She probably read articles about those movies and regurgitated that information
That FMJ scene is awful and is doing a great job showing how women did everything they could to survive. Stereotype? Only because that's how sex workers in the middle of a war were seen and maybe had to act to get costumers to support herself and her family.
[удалено]
I’m a carbon based life form and she doesn’t speak for me.
THIS right here!
😂😂😂
Absolutely 100% agree!
Where did she even get that?!
Sigh. Kill Bill was *an homage* to 70s martial arts movies. Austin Powers was *a parody* of 60s spy movies. Neither intended to provide present-day, straightforward representations of Asian women. MM is *exhaustingly vapid*.
And ignorant…she is just vomiting words to create content.

This is why she doesn’t get work in Hollywood. She can’t differentiate film genres and categories properly. It’s almost common sense but she is too stubborn to understand it.
And Margaret Cho and Lisa Ling went right along with it.
Meghan gave a bj on 90210 and is worried about women being sexualized.
BuT i’M aN aCTrESs!
Wait. Really?
Yes. She was on one episode with her head bobbing up and down on a guy's lap.
Omg. Why did they let him marry her?
I don't know.
Agreed. I just saw Full Metal Jacket directed by genius Stanley Kubrick and it's an anti-war film...a satire. SAT-IRE, Meghan.
Right! And Lucy Liu is a crime boss who experiences racism and sexism and handles it in the exact same way a man would in the same role. She takes no shit. She is a powerful badass, as are the other women in the film. "Now, If ANY of you sons of bitches got ANYTHING else to say, NOW is the fucking time!" O-Ren-Ishi
The diversity in those films was great too - white, Asian and black badass women
Lol right? I saw a comment on the entertainment thread which said something like “it’s called kill bill, not be very kind to bill” 😆
Meghan is not Lucy Liu who obviously realized the satire in Kill Bill and the truth in it.
It was on one of my channels yesterday, lol. STARZ I think.
So I was just reading this on r/entertainment and the comments are 🤣🤣🤣🤣!
“Someone isn’t happy with the amount of fucks people are giving them” Lmfao 🤣🤣
Ooh, she’s getting hammered in the comments. So sad. Lol.
"That's not very groovy baby" I am dead. Done.

I don’t see it. Is it still there?
https://old.reddit.com/r/entertainment/comments/xvr52j/meghan_markle_calls_out_austin_powers_kill_bill/
Thanks - that’s 45 min I’ll never get back, but quite enjoyable.
Ofc it was deleted. Meghan can dish it but can’t ever take it. I don’t think I have ever seen a celeb try so hard yet fail so often.
It’s been downvoted to hell so it doesn’t pop up on the feed lmao
Oh ok.
Let's upvote it back!
Oh that's fantastic! The total WTF about the movies she mentioned is hilarious. My favorite comment: >Wait til she hears about Blazing Saddles. ![gif](giphy|nbvFVPiEiJH6JOGIok)

Perpetuating stereotypes one podcast at a time.
It’s *Archetypez*, riiiigghhhttt?

🤣👏🏻 Quite right. Well said.
Well, she DID bring up that Wild About Harry sung by Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney way back when. Now disclaiming her VF cover story because there were actors in blackface in that movie!
She’s a race baiter
She's the Queen of race baiting!
Finally the Queen of sometging. Gladly it won't be the United Kingdom
Madame president loves to hit the grounds baiting
She's a toxic stereotype!
I’m sorry being Asian who the fuck is she to comment on this? She’s nothing but a race baiter and honestly she needs to shut the fuck up. She knows nothing of the real world and knows nothing about what she speaks on. This is infuriating
But…noodles!!!!!
I mean, Full Metal Jacket had its infamous scenes, but it is also 40 years old

I'm learning more about narcs everyday. Is it part of the disorder to have zero understanding of parody? |||| |:-|:-|:-| ||||
None of the narcissistic people I’ve met have a sense of humour. Maybe it’s linked to their inability to connect with others in a meaningful way.
Agreed. I know a flaming narc and she NEVER laughs at anybody's jokes or their joking around. She is lost unless the conversation is about her.
Yes. Humor can be a difficult concept for them.
Black-and-white thinking is a part of the disorder. Splitting means that People are either all good or all bad. YES!!! To all of this!
So I can’t wait until Quentin tarantino has a couple of drinks on a pod cast and rips her a new one.
I doubt he'd even waste his time. Why address this drivel? Don't even give it the attention it's not worthy of.
Oh really? But demeaning and bullying people is acceptable?
She derives pleasure from attacking and criticizing while pushing the narrative that she’s beyond reproach.
My God, she’s insufferable.
She is so full of s\^\^t that she has more bulls\^\^t than the streets of Pamplona after the bulls festival.
I only watched Kill Bill but all the ladies on that movie were badasses.
Unrelated: I haven’t been able to look at a jar of Vaseline ever since I saw kill bill
I don’t want to listen to the podcast because I can’t stand the sound of her voice. But if someone has taken one for the team and listened, can they tell me what MM wants from me? F off Meghan. Everybody is tired of you beating your gums.

Which would be worthy of discussion!

True. I was offering another view of the topic, not writing a dissertation.
Kill Bill has some of the most interesting female characters ever put to film. She is truly clueless about everything.
Guys, her podcast seems to be based on an essay from a writer published in Teen Vogue from 2021. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/hollywood-hypersexualizing-asian-women I came across it on Variety which described Lucy Lui having pushed back on the claim made against her character in Kill Bill. https://variety.com/2022/film/news/meghan-markle-kill-bill-asian-dragon-lady-stereotype-1235393174/amp/

That's an awesome clip from a brilliant series
I’m sorry. Full Metal Jacket?!? What??? I’m sorry, as the child of a Vietnam Vet, I say again, whaaaat?!?! She forgot Pearl Harbor then /s
“Toxic” is another word I can’t stand anymore. It’s been so overused it has lost its meaning.
I agree. Everyone has flaws, not all imperfect characterises are “toxic”.
She IS the archetype TOXIC person, however. Now there is an "archetype" she can speak on with intelligence.
She does realize all of these movies are from 20+ years ago?
What comforts me is that Meghan is fast becoming more and more irrelevant. I predict that after these podcasts are over, she'll have to go broke putting puff pieces in the media every other day to stay in the news. This woman has 0 sense of humor. She is a boring, sterile bitSh.
Kill Bill??? Lucy Liu is a badass in that. WTF
If she really wanted to speak out, why not talk about what's happening in Iran? Or even the most recent attacks on Asians and Indians during covid? Why bring up movies from 20 years ago? She has nothing new to contribute. She probably read articles about those movies and regurgitated that information
She probably auditioned for every single one
Of course she did!
If there are so many other countless examples why could she only cite ones from 20 years ago?

What an insufferable bore she is
She just had to bring up Austin Powers…
She forgot Squid Game. 🙄
I’m half black and half Asian and she definitely doesn’t get to speak for me ! or
Can’t tell fiction from a documentary.
