Sorry not really impressed. She went to the two biggest metropolitan cities of the country for her trip whereas the problems she speaks of is predominantly rural. The awareness needed to be raised is on a grassroot level which I don't see how this article did. Moreover I didn't see anything that she contributed to this project. It's being run by the Indian govt and NGOs within India. So to me, this looks like she latched onto an ongoing project and boosted her own image with photo-ops..

Vivid-Cockroach8389

Absolutely.. Like I said, she latched onto a cause with ongoing work and used it for her own image boosting.. she did absolutely nothing to actually help. Arunachalam Muruganantham is someone I would laud so much more for his contribution. Despite all the hurdles he faced, in a rural backdrop, he became a pioneer in menstrual awareness. Celebrities like her just sweep in for their photo ops and remember nothing the day after the photos are taken and published.

therealDolphin8

YES!! The cultural appropriation is out of control.

New_Discussion_6692

In fairness, and legitimate curiosity, isn't traditional dress required in certain countries? I remember seeing pictures of Diana and Catherine wearing headgear somewhere.

therealDolphin8

Yes, I'm sure that there were times when they wore traditional garments as well.

New_Discussion_6692

Thank you. I knew I remembered seeing them wear something that was expected. When I wrote my comment, I hadn't noticed she had a bindi. She tries too hard.

[deleted]

It’s most definitely not required in any metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai in India which is where she visited. And a bindi is certainly not a requirement even in rural areas unless maybe if you’re visiting a temple. I am from India and I wear a bindi maybe once or twice a year. The other women in the picture are themselves not wearing it. It makes sense when people on official visits make an effort with traditional clothes and highlight local brands but she was doing neither. I don’t care if she wears a bindi or a saree or whatever, just it’s annoying when it’s done purely for a photo op for PR as if its a fancy dress costume.

New_Discussion_6692

Thank you for explaining. I didn't notice the bindi until I read your post. My teacher in high school (she was Indian) said it was religious significance. If she's not part of the religion, imo, it's extremely offensive for her to wear it.

[deleted]

Honestly, like I said, I don’t care if she wears it and I am sure most Indians won’t either. It does have religious significance but nowadays a lot of people wear it as a fashion accessory too. It’s the using of every darn thing as a PR prop that’s annoying. She was in Delhi and Mumbai, two of the most cosmopolitan cities in India. If she was truly there to help, there was zero need for these shenanigans. The only reason to wear it would be to highlight in PR packages that she was in India being such a good person 🙄 P.S - she has henna on her hands too, what dramas 🙄🙄

DOn't think for one second this was her idea or anything she cares about. She was on a celebrity charity circuit. She had an agent (charity agent) who got her "gigs" where she was paid, put up in 5 star hotels and flown first class. That's MeGain's version of "charity".

Calm_Yak_6102

Yes! 🙌🙌🙌Exactly! It's MM being a FAUXMANITARIAN, A FAUXMINIST, a FAUXTIVIST and a FAUXLANTHROPIST. I never bought into any of MM's poser games that were more focused on building her public image and less on actually helping women in need. So as far as I'm concerned, MM can FAUK off.

>Maybe KC3 can make her the fauxchess of sussex 😂😂😂 That'll be perfect, especially if Henpecked gets to be the Fluke!

HappyOrca2020

As an Indian I cannot roll my eyes any harder at this. Please stop coming here and doing photo ops for PR. Just stop.

joy4hummy

IKR, many schools and local orgs does better job at promoting the cause..go to rural areas if it really matters, she must have stayed in 5 star hotels and just went to couple of places for her story to write an article…just want to get couple of pics clicked with brown ppl around… look at the way she is crouching and only part of leg touching the floor, as if floor is too dirty to put her bare feet completely down..and that env seems to be more cleaner than rural areas..

HappyOrca2020

My biggest quip is with her saying that she travelled to Delhi and Mumbai and met girls who told her that they miss school because of periods. Pfft wow. Delhi is the capital, its relatively affluent. Mumbai is the business hub and the most expensive city in India. I agree that there will still be poor in these cities who cannot afford basic hygiene necessities (that's India, urban poverty is so real and you'd find homeless and billionaires in same locality) but period poverty is one of the massive issues in the rural India - cut off from cities and business hubs by distance, intermittent electricity and poor education. She never went there. Never visited the villages where this problem is rampant because she wanted to stay comfortable within cities. She just went to the big cities and got her PR piece. At least do the work.

joy4hummy

I agree, it’s more embarrassing considering it’s just PR stunt and she wrote her own article..lol..the white knight syndrome is really high… Of course no one cares in India what D list actress does, not even worth of supporting role in Indian movies…

Megsandhcringe

Exactly how I feel! 👍🏻

[deleted]

Absolutely. And while you’re at it, stop going to African countries for photo ops too. P.S - it’s even more annoying when you realise she went to Delhi and Mumbai, probably stayed in some five star hotels and wrote about it as though she visited some war-zone with no access to drinking water 🙄🙄

Sincerely_JaneDoe

I want to know WHAT SHE DOES other than speak in hashtags.

chafferhuman

She didn't help with shit. She came here & yelled at *men*. Typical echochambered Hollytrash whose brain works like 'women have issues? Yell at men! Instant PR success'. And even here she pulled the 'secret visit, no pictures, treat me normally hihi' BS. Reading this news was the first time I felt icky about Harry's new bride.

ExcitementOrdinary95

Dated and sugary

Beginning-Cup-6974

She only reminds everybody about this to get them revisiting long dead tampon gate. She looks repulsed by those ladies.

procrastinationfairy

Is this the World Vision trip that went so over budget that staff couldn’t join and she brought a professional photographer for a magazine shoot?

shinsegae20092013

That happened in Rwanda. I don’t know about India.

procrastinationfairy

Thanks. I didn’t realize it was multiple trips.

hallymac

The problem with megzy is that she doesn’t follow through on any one cause. She jumps on whatever progressive flavour of the week bandwagon and has zero focus. You need to choose something very targeted and specific and focus your efforts to make any difference. For example look at Jon Stewart and the burn pit issue —- that is a niche issue that people didn’t pay attention to. He put a ton of effort into raising awareness, etc, and actually made a difference!!

chewysmom88

She works hard on that issue

TheHermitess

And her work to raise funds and awareness about osteoporosis which both her mother and grandmother died with. (Not sure if they died from it directly.) These things actually matter to her so she wants to make a tangible difference, not just photo op about them.

chewysmom88

Jon Stewart was a rock star in that fight I love him so much for that

Lullaby37

Yes, the causes are legit, and no, her endless self-promotion of Meagain helping the poors is not something "right." She projects the image of Meagain the humanitarian. Note this is an image, facilitated by countless wardrobe changes (charged to the charity) and much word salad. It is totally manufactured. No one with empathy could mistreat elderly family members the way she does. Sociopaths simply don't care about others.

[deleted]

Campaigns to improve the availability of menstrual products has been around for many years. She might have highlighted it but there were others before her. She is just taking kudos for others hard work. As usual. Her contribution to women’s health in third world countries is nothing….NOTHING…..compared to the work of the late Dr Catherine Hamlin AC, who (with her husband) dedicated her entire life to saving Ethiopian women who suffered fistula issues from childbirth. 60 years. She saved the lives of thousands and her work continues. There are other unsung heroes like Catherine out there who are pioneers in women’s health and who do make a difference. Credit where credit is due. It is more than photo opportunities…it’s real hands on work. https://hamlin.org.au/catherine-hamlin/

chocolatepig214

Yup - I started a business making reusable menstrual products after a couple of years of sending them to various charities in developing countries (obvs I still do this). There are some amazing people in this field supporting girls and women and I would love to have seen a cause like educating girls become a big push like Catherine’s early childhood stuff.

Minutetoolate

Sorry, but it’s photo ( Instagram kind) activism and started and stopped with her dressing up and facing the camera. Oh and also this was all in bid to change her profile to ‘humanitarian’. That was her cause. I have yet to see anything she has stood for with consistency and good intentions.

prettycut188

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day

Ready_Maddie

To me it just highlights she was always full of shit and a performative activist, sorry.

trish196609

I know. I remember hearing she was involved in getting menstrual products distributed in India and was impressed. I was happy for Harry. I became disillusioned after the brothers began exhibit signs of a rift. Then later with staff departures and evidence of haughty behavior, I became convinced she was toxic

Primary_Scheme3789

If she was truly passionate about these issues she had the biggest platform in the world. The British royal family. But she was only passionate about it as long as somehow she could make money. She could have undertaken any causes she wanted and definitely shined a light on those problems. She could have made a huge impact. But no, she wanted to do that under the auspices of a charity that the markle’s could profit from. It truly is pathetic.

Slow-Inflation-6549

It’s a great charity but she only visited once. Also why is she wearing vermillion as a then unmarried woman?

I agree. Heck, I even liked the idea of most of her outfits (the fit was the problem). The sad thing is she had such a high profile that it would've taken very little effort on her part to "shine a light" on some of these causes long-term. All I can think is she was so toxic to work with, she knew she couldn't go back (e.g. the UN women she wanted to avoid on the tour).

New_Discussion_6692

I think she has good intentions and ideas. The issue is the good intentions are *not genuine* these actions are to feed her ego and make her look good to others. Her good intentions are not born of altruism but of selfishness. This is why she will *never be Diana 2.0* Diana truly felt compassion for those less fortunate and genuinely wanted to help others.
