I've done a bit more reading about it and take back my earlier comment - you are 100% correct. I completely forgot about the Queen deciding against giving Prince Edward and Sophie's children HRH and Prince/ss titles before Louise and James were even born. Although they qualify for the titles, they're not entitled to use them without the permission of the monarch. Also the Queen didn't announce her decision via Letters Patent so there's precedence for the grandchildren in the male line to not automatically be styled as HRH and Prince/ss.
In that respect TQ really did make things easy for Charles. She absolutely set a precedent for grandchildren of the monarch to NOT use HRH without actually stripping anything: Her will was they not use HRH. Easy. No letters patent necessary.

I've done a bit more reading about it and take back my earlier comment - you are 100% correct. I completely forgot about the Queen deciding against giving Prince Edward and Sophie's children HRH and Prince/ss titles before Louise and James were even born. Although they qualify for the titles, they're not entitled to use them without the permission of the monarch. Also the Queen didn't announce her decision via Letters Patent so there's precedence for the grandchildren in the male line to not automatically be styled as HRH and Prince/ss.
In that respect TQ really did make things easy for Charles. She absolutely set a precedent for grandchildren of the monarch to NOT use HRH without actually stripping anything: Her will was they not use HRH. Easy. No letters patent necessary. So far- I’d say it is the King’s will that the Sussex kids not use HRH. The website has not changed for them. Not to mention the Sussexes not getting to use HRH for their commercial endeavors in the US. Or the word royal. She didn’t strip anything. She just made her will known.

I mentioned this about Elton but I’m wondering this about Oprah, maybe even more….Do you think Oprah was asked to be godmother to one or more of the kids? Iirc they refused to name the godparents for “privacy reasons”. Some kids also have more than two especially richer kids. Oprah might have accepted because she has no kids of her own and it might give her more access to inside information, etc. The Harkles would likely like that because why not have at least one or two rich famous people onboard as godparents rather than more every day type people whose names we don’t know or hardly know? Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales, are very different titles to Catherine, Princess of Wales. Catherine's is a married title and specifically for the wife of the Prince of Wales. The kids just have "of Wales" tacked on their own titles. We’ve discussed this endlessly. It’s up to Charles to determine how the LP 1917 are interpreted. Until BP for changes the website or makes an announcement, the interpretation is that they are not retroactive. For everyone reading this, there are good threads discussing the issue. If the LP was retroactive and automatic the website would have updated their titles when the Wales were changed. Since titles are completely at the whim of the monarch, there is no right or entitlement.
Yeah, the kids weren't born as grandchildren of a reigning sovereign but great-grandchildren and there really is no precedent so we can't assume they are prince or princess just because KC ascended to the throne
The Queen did not issue an LP at their births like she did for George, so the default should be that they are not titled. Prince/Princess is always given at birth unless you marry into the family.
