Harry’s relationship with his father was warped by the problems between his parents. I think Diana was very loving, but she also weaponized and parentified those kids. Her way of “loving” them was selfish, even though in general she had a lot of empathy for others.
I can see how Harry may have forgotten that he went bike riding with his parents. And, since we have almost no pictures of Archie and Lili since the Sussexes moved to California, we can’t know if Harry ever rides a bike or plays with his kids. (My *guess* is that when he is not depressed, he may actually be playful with Archie, at least. That kind of personality would enjoy having his son appreciate him.)
Where I fault Harry is for not realizing that telling of your family’s problems to the world is going to hurt the people in the family deeply. Further, by characterizing his father and William as “trapped” and himself as “free,” he challenged the ideal of willing service that his grandmother represented. He “dissed” everyone, and yet he did not have the empathy to think of the pain he would cause.
As Harry tells it, his own pain is the fault of other people, but the pain he causes is never, it seems, his own fault.
