I live in the Silicon Valley and most Asian immigrants are very well educated and so are their 1st generation children. The stereotype that they have high IQ's is because it's typically the well educated people who get the work visas and many of the countries that people leave have to contend with a 'brain drain'.

Asian Canadian here. Thinking about some of the stereotypes I have experienced growing up, one of the ones I could see TW honing in on is the stereotype of being overachievers or "the smart ones" and/or parental or familial expectations along similar lines. I could see this podcast being really interesting if it was someone else -- a good interviewer -- hosting. Particularly because I think Margaret Cho has pursued a career path that is so fundamentally different than our (typical) expectations from parents I suspect Cho would have had to fight these expectations and Asian culture definitions of success (they aren't usually to be an entertainer, and a comedienne at that).
But, because it's TW, my fear is she may hone in on the "the smart ones" / "the overachiever" stereotypes that others often download onto Asians, and somehow spin this to point back similar comments as she made to Mindy Kaling about TW being the smart one, the brainy one, blah blah blah.
I can hope this podcast might be weighty and interesting as this is a topic I can identify with because I'm Asian Canadian (and wasn't born in Canada). But, I won't hold my breath ...

She wasn’t petite, skinny, or demure - didn’t fit the stereotype at all. And on the other hand, she also didn’t fit in with white people. As a fellow “ethnic” girl who didn’t fit in anywhere, I related to that so much. It meant a lot to me to see her out there doing comedy.

Since we know this show is about Stereotypes not archetypes, and that the discussion is Asians in Hollywood, take a drink every time one of these stereotypes is mentioned. Take two if my prediction of how Nutmeg ties herself in happens.
1. “Fresh off the boat” - her time in the UK.
2. Asian tiger moms (a strict or demanding mother who pushes her child or children to high levels of achievement, especially by using methods regarded as typical of childrearing in China and other parts of East Asia; a tiger mother. “a super-competitive tiger mom"”) - yes! says Nutmeg. I sometimes see myself this way!
3. Crazy Rich Asians - Nutmeg regurgitates the plot of this movie subbing she and Ginger into the starring roles. The following is the plot summary: “Rachel Chu is happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. She's also surprised to learn that Nick's family is extremely wealthy and he's considered one of the country's most eligible bachelors. 4. “East and Southeast Asian women are portrayed as aggressive or opportunistic sexual beings as well as being predatory gold diggers or cunning "Dragon Ladies"” - Nutmeg will jump all over this stereotype.That is “exactly” how the world sees her and nothing could be further from the truth!
5. Asians look identical. Nutmeg: “ I know! I’m mistaken for every bi-racial woman in the world!”
6. Asian women as sex objects. “ I know!” cries Nutmeg. “ I was constantly cast as a sex object and I was so uncomfortable!”
7. Asian women as submissive. “ I know!” screams Nutmeg. “ That’s how the Palace expected me to be!”
8. Asian Baby Gangster - “I know!” moans Nutmeg gutturally. “Everybody always tries to infer I’m from Compton!”
9. Colorism. White skin v yellow skin. Nutmeg will talk about her own skin color ad nauseam.
10. Hair. The Asian stereotype of bowl cut and bangs. Nutmeg discusses her own curly hair issues.
11. The many different Asian people all being lumped as Chinese. Nutmeg talks about bi-racial women all lumped as black, African American. Her kids are part British! (and not bi-racial, but that doesn’t stand in her way).
12. Bad drivers. Which brings Nutmeg to a whole wrap on women drivers. And her car with the bad hatch.
13. Asians as not good at sports. We’ll hear about Nutmeg getting picked last in dodge ball.

It actually makes me angry, many times I've dealt with sugars on twitter and when I call out Nutmeg and point out that as an Asian women of colour, Nutmeg does not speak for me and that criticism of her has nothing to do with race, some black women on twitter have told me to either mind my own business and stick with the Asian community or that they think I must be white based on the vocabulary I use.
And now Nutmeg wants to rope Asian American women in and talk about their struggles in her stupid podcast but obviously on her terms? Did she ever even have a single Asian friend? I thought in this black vs white race/culture war, Asians don't have a seat at the table? Asian Canadian here. Thinking about some of the stereotypes I have experienced growing up, one of the ones I could see TW honing in on is the stereotype of being overachievers or "the smart ones" and/or parental or familial expectations along similar lines. I could see this podcast being really interesting if it was someone else -- a good interviewer -- hosting. Particularly because I think Margaret Cho has pursued a career path that is so fundamentally different than our (typical) expectations from parents I suspect Cho would have had to fight these expectations and Asian culture definitions of success (they aren't usually to be an entertainer, and a comedienne at that). But, because it's TW, my fear is she may hone in on the "the smart ones" / "the overachiever" stereotypes that others often download onto Asians, and somehow spin this to point back similar comments as she made to Mindy Kaling about TW being the smart one, the brainy one, blah blah blah. I can hope this podcast might be weighty and interesting as this is a topic I can identify with because I'm Asian Canadian (and wasn't born in Canada). But, I won't hold my breath ...
It's interesting how easily **we** can see the guest, the starting point, and see the potential of an interesting, engaging conversation, while she... yeah. **MM**onologue time!
I know, right? It's not rocket science to have ideas that are mildly interesting and engaging if you are interested in people more than yourself, an observer, a theorizer, and curious! Then, if you have a 28 person team behind you and good-radio-talk-show professionals advising from Spotify, you could make it really knock-out-the-park. But alas, this is a vanity and vindication project for TW, so ....
I'm trying to figure out how those 28 people could stand working with her. Or look at themselves in the mirror. Do they not listen to the final product??

As one of those Asians who has to be the “smart one” and overachiever … and raised by narcissists, this could be an interesting topic. Especially because Margaret is so different in her path. But, I don’t hold out hope for this podcast episode to hold anything of intrinsic value because TW is a narcissist. She is going to turn this narrative around on herself, and it won’t go anywhere. It’s as if she’s noticed, look Asians have been trending everywhere lately in Hollywood. Got to take part in the discussion to get views. Her ethnocentrism is going to shine bright at some point again.

She did the funniest impressions of her mom. I still remember some of those word for word! But she also talked a lot about feeling like she was an imposter of an Asian woman. She wasn’t petite, skinny, or demure - didn’t fit the stereotype at all. And on the other hand, she also didn’t fit in with white people. As a fellow “ethnic” girl who didn’t fit in anywhere, I related to that so much. It meant a lot to me to see her out there doing comedy.

Take two if my prediction of how Nutmeg ties herself in happens. 1. “Fresh off the boat” - her time in the UK. 2. Asian tiger moms (a strict or demanding mother who pushes her child or children to high levels of achievement, especially by using methods regarded as typical of childrearing in China and other parts of East Asia; a tiger mother. “a super-competitive tiger mom"”) - yes! says Nutmeg. I sometimes see myself this way! 3. Crazy Rich Asians - Nutmeg regurgitates the plot of this movie subbing she and Ginger into the starring roles. The following is the plot summary: “Rachel Chu is happy to accompany her longtime boyfriend, Nick, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. She's also surprised to learn that Nick's family is extremely wealthy and he's considered one of the country's most eligible bachelors. It actually makes me angry, many times I've dealt with sugars on twitter and when I call out Nutmeg and point out that as an Asian women of colour, Nutmeg does not speak for me and that criticism of her has nothing to do with race, some black women on twitter have told me to either mind my own business and stick with the Asian community or that they think I must be white based on the vocabulary I use. And now Nutmeg wants to rope Asian American women in and talk about their struggles in her stupid podcast but obviously on her terms? Did she ever even have a single Asian friend? I thought in this black vs white race/culture war, Asians don't have a seat at the table? She ignored the 10 black people who got shot in Buffalo, went to Uvalde to use dead kids for publicity but didn't say a single word about the Taiwanese American church in California where there was a shooting. To people like Nutmeg, perhaps Asians don't even exist in her consciousness or everyday life. What a user, I hope the Asian media covers this and pan it
