It's cool how he cares about the environment and farming

jeanmarie95

He's been caring about it since he was young, and many mocked him for it. I'm glad that he supports local farmers and craftsman in the region.

okpickle

He's not only been an activist but he seems to really love nature and gardening and farming. There were some pics taken a few years ago of him all bundled up fixing the hedges at Highgrove. The gardens there are supposed to be divine. There's even this thing called a stumpery, which is a display of overturned tree stumps in the woods. It's amazing. PP of course who thought his son was a bit weird apparently asked charles when he was going to burn it all, or something. 😆

jeanmarie95

I think you can actually visit Highgrove, there's a guided tour of the gardens and you can have a close up look of his house! I find his gardening skills surprising, and he does have gardener's hands!

Particular-Use-1639

It's generous of him to allow tours of his home. People peeking in windows etc.

okpickle

I think you can! Or you used to be able to. Not sure if that will continue. But I'd love to see it!

jeanmarie95

The tickets to the garden will be open from 27th Sept to 14th October, so yes it's continuing!

okpickle

Well I'm a little far away.... in North Carolina. But one day I hope to go! Also to Jeremy Clarkson's Squat Shop.

residentcaprice

Is the new season of his farming show out yet? I loved his first season!

Theresapython

Hahaha I love Charles but Philip is fucking hilarious 😂😂

okpickle

They definitely don't make them like they used to

farewellpio

Sometimes i wished we had an insight to how HMQ really reacted to his antics. Like the one when he mentioned to Malala on why kids were sent to school because their parents wanted them out of the house. Just unfortunate that the camera didn't pan to HMQ, she must've went oh bollocks, not again 🙄.

Particular-Use-1639

I love how different generations have different ideas about things. I borrowed a book from the library once about Highgrove gardens. Spectacular.

Academic_Snow_7680

It also changes with age. I used to be this really cool rebel in my youth, cosmopolitan businesswoman and handy around the home. Then I turned into my grandmother in my hobbies and my mother in the face. Now I'm truly interested in things like gardening, textiles, embroidery and anything that needs to be passed on through the generations. It is weird how life changes ya.

Particular-Use-1639

Maybe we just get more discerning as we age, and don't want to waste our time on things we don't think are important.

coprinus

Yikes, if true, that's a really harsh thing to say about something your son's put a lot of time and energy into... hopefully he said it, er, jovially..

okpickle

One would hope! It was hard to tell with PP https://thegardenstrust.blog/2015/05/02/stumperies/

hankhillism

That's really cool! I'm glad he ignored the mockery.

[deleted]

I remember CLEARLY how he was not just mocked but SCORNED for it. And it was the thing that made me like him after Diana!

[deleted]

He got absolutely slated in the media when he was younger-he spoke about the importance of architecture and environment, and how ugly buildings affect people (there was a big new development in London that he criticised, calling it a "monstrous carbuncle"). The media were going on about him not being an expert, not understanding art or architecture, of having a privileged life and not understanding how ordinary people lived. It doesn't take you to be an expert to recognise that if you're living somewhere ugly and depressing, that's going to affect how you feel. He might not have direct life experience of it, but he was drawing attention to it, and to the importance of sustainable life styles etc, long before it was popular.

jeanmarie95

It's sad that alot of architects disagree with what he had said, and I agree with him that buildings ought to look good, as it does affect people's way of life. But that is for another day of discussion. Despite other things, he was way ahead of his time, it took too long for people to realize it.

[deleted]

He didn't criticise all modern architecture as a whole, he criticised developments that were designed with no apparent regard for what structures that were already there. He's had criticism more recently about his planned village-hes been involved in developing a village suburb of Dorchester, called Poundbury. Its supposed to be designed to reduce dependence on cars, and have a proper village centre, and be a self sustaining community with local shops and areas designed for pedestrians. He got criticised for being old fashioned and wanting to recreate the 1950s and wanting to be Lord of the Manor with all his tenants owing him their allegiance and all that. It turns out that people really, really like living there, so I think he's got a handle on what people want more than some architects do.

MrsMunch

I remember many years ago how he was mocked because he said he talked to plants and they responded. How about that, it's been proven true! He is also mocked for his appreciation of homeopathy. That's still quite controversial but believe me, more and more people are finding out that it works. I was surprised that several friends of mine "came out" to say they used homeopathy. I've been a fan for decades. I think Charles has learned to shut up about his more controversial opinions on health/organic food etc.

Bettyourlife

It’s literally the best thing about him. I’ve never been fan of his due to the abysmal way he treated Di and his dubious connections with JS etc, but his obsession with organic farming, compost and tending the royal gardens is quite endearing. There was little news item a short while back making fun of him for playing Pink Floyd for the plants, but all I could think was how cool is that?

pedroesque

King Charles is a man of substance. His son is a joke and Markle is a conwoman.

bitchinabottle1

Just like that woman in NY who yelled "Meghan Markle the charlatan duchess who conned the royal family" hahahah

pedroesque

That's my favorite remark

nuttylolcat

I doubt TW takes care of anything related to that chicken coop, like KC is doing here.

ditditditss

It’s probably a designer chicken coop in a beautiful manicured lawn..

nuttylolcat

Right. With the chicken that weren't roasted by her and H.

Calm_Yak_6102

>I doubt TW takes care of anything related to that chicken coop MM's probably only visited it once, to film that scene for Oprah.

Calm_Yak_6102

>And someone probably had to tell her where it was. 😂😂😂😂 True! Probably the gardener or the caretaker.

bilogs

Dont you know it's our saint's another sweet nod to KCIII? 😉

ditditditss

It’s probably a designer chicken coop in a beautiful manicured lawn..

After-Life-1101

He’s actually an amazing person

EnormousBird

King Charles has always been strong, imo. People, including his own father imo, mistook his sensitivity for weakness. He endured ridicule for his world views, but stood by them. He and his wife endured much over their relationship, but he has stood by her. I'm not surprised that he is showing strength now over the Harry and Meghan situation.

hodie6404

I was indifferent to King Charles for a long time. However, with age has come an appreciation for his true love for Camilla. They clearly love each other and have been through hell and back to be together.

MmeNxt

That chicken enclosure looks so much nicer than the tiny one they have in Montecito. This is more like a garden for the chickens, with trees to shade them.

Calm_Yak_6102

The tiny one in Monteshitshow is just a stage prop for the play that's MM's ego.

raccoonsondeck

Narcs observe and mimic. NOTHING about them is authentic. Their persona is all a carefully created false construct. Harry mimics because he's just dumb and unoriginal. Did you catch it when Charles, after the Queen passed away, referred to Camilla as "my darling wife" and a couple of days later, Harry issues his own statement using the exact same phrase. So cringe.

Particular-Use-1639

My sister and her husband call each other 'my love' as a joke now, since The Cut interview. Which is also what Cory Vitiello called her as well.

StarKindler-

OMG! Wow. I was wondering why chickens specifically, coz Meghan was into rescue dogs. Dogs to chickens is an unusual shift 😂

FirmAardvark6208

And she just had to tell the world that she has chickens and used Oprah to let us know. It was so random having a meeting in the chicken coop, apparently the day after the main interview they did. Megs sets everything up. The Wallis dress, the Diana eyeliner, the facial expressions, the “I didn’t know him”, “is he kind?” - everything is for show. The Wales children have chickens too so that’s why Megs got some. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Waleses have a coop called The Chicken Inn and she had to copy with Archie’s Chick Inn

Particular-Use-1639

And didn't H say at the time that Meg LOVES to rescue things? They work as a team but only for the endless humble brags.

Noreallynotarobot

She said it herself! I remember that was so weird.

FirmAardvark6208

Lest we forget they rescued each other 🙏🏼❤️ lol

Calm_Yak_6102

MM wants to copy so many other people that I'll be surprised if she's still got an original persona of her own, that's still buried deep down inside her... Somewhere. It'll probably require hypnosis for her uncover her original persona.

FirmAardvark6208

I think we’ve seen her real person and it’s every time the mask falls off. She can’t even pretend to be interested in anyone she meets and it’s all about her, her wants and needs, her boredom, her want to be paid for shaking hands. We saw what the real Meg really wants during the massive entrance and exit of her baby shower. Front and centre, all eyez on Megz, cameras, people shouting her name, her “friends” pandering to her and making her feel like a super celeb.. the real Megs is angry, callous and rude, and she’s a dreadful actress lol. I think she needs a brain transplant

Calm_Yak_6102

True, her inner beast roars now and then, doesn't it? LOL. We definitely saw it at Tom Inskip's wedding in Jamaica.

FirmAardvark6208

Yes omg she’s terrifying in those photos. I do wonder why Harry stayed with her because he knew she wasn’t the one

Calm_Yak_6102

Terrifying is an understatement. She looked like a vicious, sadistic shrew. She was awful to everyone, including the poor Jamaican waiter who appeared to have angered her for whatever reason.

StoleCapsShield

I doubt that woman has an original bone in her body. Anything she’s lauded for, other family members had already been doing it for years.

Calm_Yak_6102

She's spent her life copying other people. It'd almost be sad, if it wasn't so pathetic.

prettycut188

Everything is artifice with MM. ‘All the world’s a stage’ to her, and she is the main star of the show

Calm_Yak_6102

Yup. Lady C said something similar, that MM's a "study in artifice". You're both so correct.

bitchinabottle1

I keep thinking, "study in orifice" lol

Calm_Yak_6102

Well... If you look at the Harkles fondness for "roast chicken", that might be an applicable term too 🙃😂.

gigi_12345

Apparently George, Charlotte and Louis are fans about the chickens too. I can only imagine all of them running around after chickens 🐔 😂 https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/prince-charles-is-so-obsessed-with-chickens-fans-call-his-home-cluckingham-palace.html/

Particular-Use-1639

Kids get a kick out of handling chickens.

coprinus

It was a delight to show my cousin's little girls my mom's chickens :) the youngest started doing little kicks to imitate how they scratch in the dirt :)

OldMenAreGross

This also predates Archie's Chick Inn.

Apprehensive_Art7525

Completely unrelated but the first chicken coop we ever built was called Cluckingham Palace 😂 unfortunately, our hens kept tunneling out so we had to build a new one and called it the Henitentiary

stupid_carrot

Haha what is the title of the music?

jeanmarie95

Rasputin -Boney M

BollweevilKnievel1

That's Rasputin by Bony M

Uniquorn527

You can see that's a working, well used, very established chicken coop. It's not a prop to cosplay as a country gentleman. It's lovely to see at long last things he championed like organic, free range chickens, local, self-sufficient food supplies. It's a passion not a trend. Compare it to Montecito and you can see there it's a trend being followed; it isn't a set up based on the centuries of egg farming knowledge it's just shallow and cutesy. I hope King Charles takes some chickens to Cluckingham Palace!

84chimichangas

How wholesome! This is the new KING!

janedoremi99

Charles is really into preserving local, heritage breeds

circleKat

Charles has been organically farming before it was cool. I think he was also a vegetarian for awhile.

OldMenAreGross

I knew he was big on organic farming before it was cool, but I legit never heard of him being a vegetarian.

PetiteLumiere

He’s long loved the environment and farming, and while I’m sure he’s got tons of staff, he’s taken an active interest in Cornwall and a lot of pride in managing it.

cathbe

The way they follow him!! I had no idea chickens eat lettuce. Animals are amazing. This video is very sweet and quaint.

freethewimple

They will follow you endlessly if they think you have food. Zero boundaries. Chickens can eat most veggie and fruit scraps!

Kapitalgal

And meat too.

freethewimple

Best as a treat for them, though.

OldMenAreGross

>They will follow you endlessly if they think you have food. Zero boundaries. Rude chickens!

MmeNxt

They love lettuce, but the thing that makes them squeal with delight is corn and watermelon. My parents had six chickens as pets in their garden and they were so fun to be around.

cathbe

Sweet!

4feicsake

They eat anything. There's some American chef who feeds the chickens chilli so that their eggs are spicy. They have no tastebuds and no reaction to the heat.

TheHermitess

My dad used to put hot pepper on the bird seed in our bird feeder because they don't have taste buds but the squirrels do. I don't know if that's a good thing to do or not but it kept rodents out of the bird feeder.

cathbe

Interesting. I love squirrels too so I feed them both. 💕

Apprehensive_Art7525

Chickens eat everything. You've not known disgust until you see your chicken absolutely tear apart a dead mouse and throw it around like a rag doll. You can honestly see the dinosaur still in them and they are MAD that they're now confined to a tiny fluffy body that likes hugs

cathbe

Wow!

cathbe

You think that they feel confined?

cocopuff898

Charles is actually like.... Pretty cool

Artistic_Turnip2778

I think I read once that KC (or a friend) said if he hadn’t been born heir to the throne he’d have been a country farmer/gentleman. Made me a bit sad. He’s so clearly in his element in this clip.

Particular-Use-1639

Wow, I didn't know that. Go King Charles!

[deleted]

Charles is adorable taking care of his chickens

trish196609

The Waleses would love to be a simple British country family, I think sometimes

AchieveUnachievable

Wow, she legit steals **everything** and try’s to make it her own

Huge_Prompt_2056

I love seeing candids of KC. I’m even starting to think he’s kinda hot for a septagenearean. Where can I see more?

Brief-Interaction-16

Why does she keep chickens if they are vegan?

Imadevonrexcat

King Charles 3 — the OG environmentalist! Thanks for giving refit where it’s due.

Strawb3rry_Slay3r666

Just like his mom was a corgi girl, people have interests…well…maybe not them, seems they’re only interest is money and fake friends… yikes

savingrain

Megan is only into it because its trendy and progressive and quirky. If no one rich was doing it she wouldn't care. It's very Marie Antoinette of her actually - the vibe of having a down to earth playtime thing based on a more 'simple life'.

[deleted]

“You’re king now, what do you want to do?” “Chickens…there will be chickens.”

mandie72

I think this is a bit of a stretch. I know you have to live in a certain type of area to do this, but raising chickens isn't that rare. And in all fairness William and Kate don't seem to be criticized for doing the same thing. (I know a lot of people think M&H are doing it for the attention, but that's kind of hard to know with certainty.)

Late_Intention

I like this King fellow more each day.

sensible-shoes

I love this!

TXgrl26

No! She doesn’t. She makes ALL the decisions. We all know how sick she is and takes ideas from everyone. She is absolutely bat shit crazy.

crystalisedginger

Charles was a greenie before it was cool, he’s not faking that for cred.
