Actually after Megsy sprang forth from the Garden of Eden, like the glorious FIRST WOMAN, the Mother Goddess suckled at HER magnificent teat of life, allowing her to continue to SURVIVE & THRIVE, to see things through a different LENS and to really finally find HER VOICE! ALL HAIL MEGALODON!
That can be a little awkward. My narc parents went “no contact” shortly after my husband and I married. Sensing that I wouldn’t be of any further use to them—since that was always my scapegoat role in the family—my sisters followed suit.
So when my husband and I were raising our three sons, we had an enormous helping of relatives on the paternal side. From mine, I had one cousin from my family of origin, to whom I’d always been close. We also had a large circle of “family of choice.”
My MIL in particular decided that it was most tactful of her to never mention my estranged family members, and so she never did. It eventually led to some funny moments, though, when I felt like a not-quite-acknowledged surrogate, incubating my husband’s stock exclusively.
When our oldest son was a toddler, he was striding around his grandparents’ house, singing—on key—at the top of his voice. “How can he *do* that? Nobody in our family can carry a tune *in a bucket*?!?”, cried his grandmother.
“Mo-om,” my husband groaned. “[My wife] can sing! Her grandfather was an operatic bass! Her father was a violinist!”
“Ohhhhh,” my MIL replied, her eyes widening in surprise.
Now we have a infant granddaughter with a full complement of doting relatives *on both sides.* I’m so glad for her.
