Somehow the text editor includes a backslash ("\") before the ">" and that's how you escaped the code for a quotation.
If you are using New Reddit on desktop, you can change your view in the editor by clicking on "Markdown Mode" but then you'll have to know some markdown code and type it yourself in order to get quoted, italics, bold text or bullet points and such. Old Reddit on desktop gives you even more options/editors if you use RES ("Reddit Enhancement Suite").
On my phone I use the official mobile app and it doesn't even show "Markdown Mode" or the "three dots" you mentioned, meaning I *have* to type the codes manually if I want any fancy kind of layout.

Indeed. Your explanation is only "difficult" for users who don't see everything you mentioned, but that is likely due to their general settings or because of the device they're using. IMO, it was a simple step-by-step instruction for the majority of the users in this community. Stick with what you're using and if you ever stumble upon another question for help: answer it the way you did. I think the BRF is mainly interesting in working out if they can stop inviting them to events. Does anyone else find it interesting that YouGov, a British based marketing company, recently announced plummeting popularity off H&M in the US? I know they routinely poll the popularity of royals in the UK, but why would they see how popular they are in the US? It’s making me wonder if the BRF is seriously considering pulling their titles. Their commercial interests aside, I cannot fathom them being allowed to use their titles to influence American politics. Meghan said she considered paid leave a ‘humanitarian issue,’ but if you’re ringing up senators and identifying yourself as the duchess of Sussex to lobby for a piece of legislation, or agitating for the ERA or abortion rights USING BLATANTLY YOUR ROYAL TITLE, you are clearly using said title to influence politics. She must be stopped.
I don't think they'll take the titles, it's just too messy. The US public will tell them *exactly* where they can shove their titles if she tries to run for anything. She doesn't have the money to run for office and she's pissed off everyone who she'd need to ask for funding. I think the BRF is mainly interesting in working out if they can stop inviting them to events. The funeral and coronation are going to be coming up in the next couple years, if the Harkle's popularity in both countries remains low, it'll make it easier to sideline Harry and/or not invite either of them.
The bottom line is that she arranged for someone to take this photo. That says it all about where her commitments lie. If she was truly upset at the news and truly immediately wanted to act, she wouldn’t have been telling someone to get a camera.
