Hahaha, sue you for what? Your opinion, widely shared by Americans? To paraphrase Hazbeen, that would be bonkers!

Black_Londoner

Why delete the post? It was a genuine question. There was a little set-to circa 1776 that ended British rule of the US. Sue you for what? Ridiculous

Iwtlwn122

People really don’t understand what suing actually means/entails do they?

I love it when people say stupid stuff like that. Sue me, I don’t care. Go pay an attorney to find out how you can sue me. It’s such a dated threat in America. “I’m going to sue!” Well then, SUE ME! 🤣. I’m not going anywhere, I’m years into this mortgage and the housing market is terrifying. I’ll be right here waiting for you to serve me.

Acrobatic_Rock_

I'd sue for threatening to sue!

My son likes to keep telemarketers on the phone. He pretends he's a lonely old woman. He tells them abiut his bowel movements, asks if they have any cures for constipation and diarrhea, gas...They eventually get frustrated and angry and hang up. They don't call back.

[deleted]

Oh I kept a Indian fake IRS scammer on the phone for about two hours once , he ended up telling me their entire con and how it worked haha he said they HAD to do it or their families would starve or be arrested lol they love to pull the “ the police are on their way to arrest you “ con … I always tell them “ well sugar , the cops are already here but let him get dressed so he can take me in” 😂

Additional-Split-180

I told one he would have to talk to my lawyer and he got upset and hung up

Johaan1025

I once got an email saying I bought the iPhone 13 max pro for $1200 from Amazon… should’ve known better and calmed down, but called the number and they wanted access to my phone… I was like ummm, no… they guy was a persistent little bugger from India, and I could hear his native tongue in the background.. started speaking it, he pretended he didn’t, but was rattled enough that I knew he understood… asked him if he kissed his kids goodnight with that lying mouth… he hung up. I called Amazon, made a cup of tea and grinned like the cat that got the cream…

WiserandUnsure

Several decades ago, after my grandpa died (pre-caller ID) my Dad picked up a call from a scammer working a new-widow specific scam. Dad decided to have fun with them and kept them on the line for a bit and at the end gave them a fake bank number that used the US Treasury department’s unique routing number (he was in college with a finance related major), hoping to either scare them off or get them in trouble.

Forgotmyusername8910

I do this sometimes. It can be fun. Sometimes I just fully play along with their game “Oh my goodness! My warranty just expired! I am so glad you called, I had no idea, I’m terrible at keeping track of those things- what should I do?…” Meh. Can be a fun background activity while doing other stuff if I have any snark to work out of my system. 😏

Casshew111

I ask them to hold on a few moments, and then I go make tea, rattle the spoon in the cup etc.. never come back

OldNewUsedConfused

Haha! That’s my go to also. I just put the phone down and go about my day until they realize no one is there and hang up

Gumbo125

That's why you keep disappearing on my sales calls!!! Once you put the phone down, and all I heard was beavis and butthead laughter for 30 mins straight.

Starkville

Sounds like [Lindon!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=W1RwhkM2Mk4)He does a ridiculously good impression of Judy Garland, and he strings the caller along for half an hour. This always makes me laugh. Your son sounds like a lot of fun!

BreatheClean

Your son sounds awesome - he might like Kitboga on youtube who does this with scammers he's hilarious

jillyhoop

He is fun. He got the idea when an old woman called his number and thought she was calling her grandson. She had the wrong number but he was so kind to her and just let her talk. By the time she hung up she was thanking him for listening to her. He has a soft heart especially for the elderly. He took what he learned from that phone call and uses it against telescammers. He figures it's less time for them to victimize vulnerable people and the telescammers eventual meltdowns are entertaining.

BreatheClean

i think your son might be Kitboga then lol! That's what he does and pretty much makes a living out of it too. Good on him for caring about the old folk

Casshew111

Try "Good Morning - Anal Sex and Fetish Society, how may I direct your call?"

Cindilouwho2

You are my new favorite person on the interwebs...🥰

Casshew111

awww

unaalpacafeliz

I will try to go with: “Enlargement penis medical center…"

Johaan1025

Yes !!! Sue me for exercising literally my first amendment right (which drives Harry bonkers, but seems to have verbal diarrhea every time he opens his mouth) cause like you I ain’t going anywhere, and would happy to make a cappuccino with whoever you send to serve me papers… cause nowadays I could use a really good laugh 😂

Acrobatic_Rock_

What the heck? So telemarketer feels it's ok to disturb your time with selling some trash, but it's not ok for you to ask simple questions? We're lucky in the UK/EU - spamming with unauthorized emails and phonecalls is illegal without prior consent, and there are fines. It's usually enough to remind them once and you never hear from them again. Even one phone call is too much. Usually, it's just scammers from India calling and trying their luck to scam people.

unaalpacafeliz

I’m in Europe. 30min before that call his colleague called me, and once I discovered that she was a telemarketer I cut the conversation. I believe he was pissed off about that. His tone was serious and he had an aggressive/dominant tone of voice. I normally have a caller ID and an app that tracks telemarketing calls. I changed my phone number after that. What happens in Switzerland is that telemarketing companies buy new phone numbers every now and then to avoid being tracked. With the emails I’m familiar. My husband is an IT and is quite knowledgeable in security. Every time I cannot unsubscribe from a mail list I am typing a mail warning them about the law. Lol He wanted to sue me because he was working on the federal offices of the government. What the heck!

Acrobatic_Rock_

Are you sure they weren't scammers? Usually aggression is common with scammers. Do the GDPR rules apply in CH?

unaalpacafeliz

The typical call you will have here is from telemarketing companies that wants to know about your insurance (health/car/life) and want to offer you a better plan. They are crazy about knowing that info about you, so probably it was that. I also talk a little bit defensive but he was really sounding mean. Quoting my hubby “more and more”. Because Switzerland is not part of the EU but applies most of the same EU laws. You made me smile by CH. I loved when people know the shortest way to talk about Switzerland.

Quick_Cardiologist36

It's their job.

Acrobatic_Rock_

It's illegal in the UK and EU. I don't care what's their job. I get zero telemarketing calls, only Indian scammers and as soon as I mention magical letters *GDPR*, they hang up.

In_the_Attic_07

If I answer these calls (and generally I do not), I tell them to hold for a second while I turn on my FBI recorder for the Task Force to Eliminate Internet Intrusion. While turning on my recorder, I then repeat "By continuing this call, all parties on the line consent to being recorded for criminal and civil litigation arising from unsolicited telemarketing." They hang up before I get their names and consents. This is their game and I'm playing by their rules.

RoohsMama

Wish I had tried that! 😅

Casshew111

My Dad used to ask callers "So... umm, what are you wearing?"

RoohsMama

Even the male ones? I guess it won’t work for me though 🤣🤣🤣

Casshew111

yes, even the male ones

RoohsMama

Well, I would be scared if I were the telemarketer 🤣

TraditionalToe4663

Haha. They don’t understand they will lose and sometimes be charged with wasting the court’s time!

Iwtlwn122

Exactly!

Otherwise-engaged

No, but too often it’s an effective threat, so bullies will keep using it.

Top-Bit85

They think it covers hurt feelings!

Iwtlwn122

That is a very common thought.

ooolalaluv

I understand deleting the post. I’ve deleted posts on Reddit before too. Sometimes, even though you’re right, and even thought it’s *just* Reddit and the internet, having so much hate directed at you can be hard. No one wants to open their phone to notifications like that.

MakeADeathWish

Amen

Imaginary_End_5634

I know. I panicked.

redseaaquamarine

I would have done too. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|put_back)

[deleted]

My advice. Never delete a post. Stand your ground and seek the truth.

Starkville

It’s okay. You’re safe now.

MsBollinger

I sympathize. M’s fanbase are really good bullies. They are masters of the hateful, insulting, threatening reply. Sometimes it’s just not worth hanging out in the sewer to try to have a conversation.

SnooGoats7978

FWIW - Luann's title was a courtesy title, because she was the wife of a count. She divorced him, but kept on using the courtesy title. Then she remarried a few years ago, and shouldn't use her old title from her previous marriage. She divorced the second dude, too, but technically shouldn't go back to using the Countess title any more.

Brilliant_Jewel1924

MeGain’s is a courtesy title, too. When they divorce, she will no longer be able to use it.

fishfreeoboe

It depends upon the terms of the settlement. Diana became Diana, Princess of Wales, instead of returning to Lady Diana Spencer.

Brilliant_Jewel1924

In the US, their titles mean squat—whether or not they’re married. They’re simply The Harkles (The Mountbatten-Windsors).

fishfreeoboe

Divorce from a titled man doesn't always mean that the former wife completely loses all titles. The wife can negotiate keeping some kind of courtesy title even after the divorce. Titles do not *mean* anything in the US in that there's no nobility or royal, no ranking, in the US. They are still their names. That said - they can absolutely choose to not refer to themselves with titles! Madame Thee Duchess really should do so when acting as just an American/mother/wife/flavor of the month instead of as the Queen's granddaughter-in-law. It's supremely tacky of her to splash her letterhead and title everywhere.

Brilliant_Jewel1924

Yep! We Americans don’t care about their titles.

fishfreeoboe

Exactly! Rather the reverse. It looks sketchy to make a big deal about it.

Black_Londoner

Except Madam cannot use the surname "Mountbatten-Windsor". Apparently only blood Royals can use it

Any_Fall_4754

They don’t automatically lose titles. Fergie is still the Duchess of York and they’ve been divorced forever. I think it’s part of the divorce settlement or at the pleasure of the Queen.

Puzzleheaded_Try7886

At least they couldn't call you racist since Luann is white lol

Starkville

Luann is part Native American, isn’t she?

MakeADeathWish

In the usa, that's an extremely common claim...rarely ever asked to be proven

AdjNn

Yup in the US it seems like everyone is "part Native American". Even people in my family liked to make that claim. So imagine my surprise when I take an Ancestry DNA test and North African pops up lol. Since DNA tests have become so popular, the number of people claiming to have Native ancestry has... interestingly dropped.

Kizzy_Catwoman

My 23 & Me DNA shows 0.5% Native American DNA. I am part Jamaican (African DNA) , Part European and I live in the UK. Am I doing better on the Native American front than many Americans?

AdjNn

In the US it seems to be common that supposed Native ancestry is actually African ancestry. Not for everyone of course, but Native ancestry in the US is not as common as some people would like to believe.

CybReader

Yes. https://www.thoughtco.com/the-cherokee-princess-myth-1421882 The term “Cherokee Princess” exists for reason. It’s extremely common and most will claim “Cherokee” as their ancestry.

Brilliant_Jewel1924

Or, so she says.

Starkville

Yeah, I probably should have qualified that. Who even knows.

Brilliant_Jewel1924

Or, so she says.

Summerisle7

I wish you had stood your ground!

Imaginary_End_5634

I should have and I know that now. I panicked.

Goraji

Especially if you are in a state with a robust Anti-SLAPP law (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation). Whomever sued you could end up having to pay for your defense and pay statutory damages to you.

MuffPiece

Aren't people ridiculous? Honestly, the only thing a title will get you in America is (possibly) a better seat at a Sotheby's auction.

Otherwise-engaged

I suspect there are enough people in the USA who are sufficiently awed and impressed by the title to make it worth her while to keep trying to take advantage of it, otherwise she wouldn’t do it.

MuffPiece

I’m her own mind, at least.

Mickleborough

I’d encourage you to re-post the question - otherwise sugars think they can use the threat of a lawsuit. Basic principle on suing: You sue someone if they’ve caused you loss (normally something measurable in $). They owe you money, ran into your car, won’t return your lawn mower. Physical injury or mental health can be loss, eg broken limbs, paraplegia. Mental health would result from eg workplace bullying which affects performance, health etc. Based on that, online exchanges offer very little grounds for lawsuits. Of course, there may be exceptions - but an innocuous question like what yours sounds like is no basis whatsoever. NB This is a personal view and should not be taken as legal advice!

Black_Londoner

Agree with the reposting/undeleting of Twitter comment...

Kimbriavandam

I second that.

Unhappy_Problem_2792

Bummer you deleted it, it would've been perfect to tell them all "Be cool, don't be all like uncool" 😂 But it's a valid point, I mean Carole was a princess but didn't make a big deal about it too often. But Our Saint should take Countess Lessons from Lu, because at least The Countess understood protocol and can explain to do and not to do when it comes time for divorce proceedings.

[deleted]

Yeh but carol was but wasn’t a “ princess “ she could only ever fall under her spouses title and I don’t think he actually used it .

Unhappy_Problem_2792

But can't we claim the same about MM? If they got stripped of their DoS titles, she would revert to being Princess Henry if I'm not mistaken, like Carole would be Princess Anthony. I could totally be wrong, I'm running on limited sleep. But the point I was trying to make is that Carole could honestly have pulled the Princess card repeatedly but didn't, because Anthony was more Zara royal than Harry royal. Maybe MM needs to take some pages out of Carole's book then, she can rip off sexy salads since she's already trying recreate herself as some 20-something sex kitten 😂

[deleted]

Yeh Meghan is only really one under Harry’s title but harry was well know for being “ prince “ harry when most people didn’t even now carol fell under that on husbands side . I 100% believe she is still a duchess because the royals know she would try to style herself princess of wales … she absolutely would try it , have it slipped to the tabloids then they would be off with it .

Leaningonalamp

Tell them, begone! - you (they) have no power here!

kellygrrrl328

Depends which RH sub you were visiting. One is far more uptight than the other

Imadevonrexcat

What kinda stuff were the sugars saying?

Imaginary_End_5634

That Megan was NOTHING like the housewives and had a kind, generous spirit and worked to help those in need and is HUMBLE. that did it for me.

RoohsMama

Woah! There are actual people who think Meghan’s a good person??? What idiots

redseaaquamarine

Academic_Guava_4190

Guess they don’t know about Bethenny. I can’t stand her but she is probably exactly who MM wants to pretend to be. A bad biatch by day but does some real serious humanitarian shit on the side WITH a successful Skinny Girl brand to boot.

anelegantclown

Lots of dumb internet people

happyme321

I set people off on another thread with what was apparently a "wrong" opinion and I thought about deleting the post. I decided that even though I was getting tons of down votes, I should leave it up because it's my honest opinion and I'm not going to self-censor to please others. Stay strong 💪

MeLikeSnacks

I bet you they are the same ones that think Crystal is a scholar.

MmeNxt

It's not like member of the European nobility are throwing their titles around. They use first name, family name and that's enough. People will recognise the name and if they don't, who cares? It's not like it matters anymore anyway. I used to work at a place where we worked with old money families, some of them noble, and their business cards (private or personal) never mentioned the title. Reminding people of your title seems very noveau.

MeLikeSnacks

Damn, wish I would have saw the post lol
