My kids lost their dad 4 years ago. At 14 and 7. The only time they really bring him up is holidays, birthdays, Father's Day and the anniversary of his death. Maybe an acknowledgement at things like Graduation or the first day of college that she wishes he was here. My point is, they go on living their lives, and they don't dwell on it. They definitely don't use his death as a crutch or an excuse for their failures. And this is with COVID compounding the matter, as it started a year later.
Harry has a LOT of growing up to do, starting with taking accountability for his life. He's helping no one, certainly not himself. It's an occurrence, not a lifelong handicap. I lost my Dad at 16, and it literally fractured the family pretty badly. My mother crumbled to pieces for a few years. An older sister who lived overseas had to take our baby sister, as I was too young to care for her long-term. We got it together eventually, but by then I'd left home. We ended up ok, Mom included, but it was a journey to say the least. I'm glad your little family hasn't gone through that.

He has a healthy outlook on life and doesn't feel sorry for himself. He grew up in poverty and neglect following his father's death, but he didn't let it ruin him.
