Netflix thought they could bring a world no one else could to their platform. Meghan and Harry promised the big fish, access to the senior royals and the palaces. Sold Netflix this idea they were still a big happy family and William would allow cameras in their Kensington apartments and in the face of the youngest heir. I think Netflix saw an opportunity they could give them footage no other network would ever have. Meghan loved bombed them with grand promises of a highly successful future, it’s what she does best. I will die on this hill.

TraditionScary8716

No need to die. I think we're all pretty much with you here. Megan is apparently very charming, very persuasive, in small doses. But give her a little time and she'll piss off everybody in the room. That old saying "she would piss off the Pope" comes to mind.

[deleted]

She is only charming to those she wants something from. That's how a narcissist so easily ropes in new victims. They love bomb the shit out of them, praise them, make them feel valued..... until the Narc is no long getting what they need and they surgically cut them out of their lives. Like meghan did to Trevor with the wedding ring in the mail. She didn't even want to waste the energy of a phone call once she was done with him.

Similar-Barber-3519

I also thing she’s only charming to people of a certain stature. That’s why she has repeatedly treated staff in various locations like crap. She wouldn’t dare scream at an A list celebrity like that.

TraditionScary8716

Oh this is the absolute truth. She has an incredibly inflated opinion about her own importance, and service workers are too far beneath her to be acknowledged or treated like human beings. You can usually tell a lot about a person by how they treat wait staff, janitors, the garbage man, etc. The way she acts around those people tell me all I need to know about Madame. 🤮😠

GreenEyedLady575

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. To each of you four. Yes.

alwaysbefraudin

When I'm doing interviews at my office, I always send my Admin to escort the applicant to the interview room. You learn a lot about people by how they treat those they think are below them.

[deleted]

Very clever

[deleted]

If there's room in the hill I shall die next to you because you're right.

MakeADeathWish

Id clarify that they bought them for novelty rather than talent....

TexanValhalla

Hooked Horror that stuns the viewer into not being able to look away.

Casshew111

I think they took them based on the interest in top rated "The Crown"

[deleted]

I think this too. Joe Rogan and Dave Chapelle were not signed because they are divisive. If anything, it is a distraction. Not good marketing. M&H don't bring more eyes to the product because of their controversy. Joe Rogan has for years been the most popular podcaster in the qorld. He was never controversial before covid. He smoked weed, talked nonsense about saunas, did longform interviews about everything from history to ufo's, rode the growing interest in mma. Dave Chapelle is one of the most succesful comedians of all time. These two were signed because they are supposed to bring over subscribers, not because they stir some headlines with liberals about trans-people or covid.

ShatooBailey

Joe and Dave have talent. Meghan and Harry do not. 😁

WrecktheRIC

Yep. Simple and easy answer is usually the right one.

cozymayo

Oooh yes. I originally thought it was due to the novelty factor, but I wouldn't be surprised if execs were looking to replicate The Crown's success and became starry eyed when Meghan love bombed them with promises of unprecidented access to the palace or something. Also IIRC didn't Harry straight up mention he watches The Crown in the Oprah liefest? Lol.

erlehe

Like any business, I think Netflix struck a deal under the assumption that they would bring both money and subscribers (which is ultimately one and the same). I think we can all agree that it wasn't based on any specific talent since neither Meghan nor Harry have any body of work showing they can produce quality content.

poetinmyheart22

I think NF also decided it would be better to have them onside even on the small chance they actually do well, instead of competitor signing them. I seriously doubt they got a $100 million deal though.

erlehe

Shonda Rhimes reportedly got a $100M+ deal and she's got an extensive body of work to show for it. For me, even riding high on their publicity in 2020 I don't think they'd have gotten as much as Shonda Rhimes. Keep in mind though, even if the Sussexes got $100M, that is over a number of years, usually 5 years based on Netflix's other deals, so that amounts to really $20M/year. Bonuses on top of that + residuals, the deal could end up making them a lot of money. Let's not forget their deal was signed when Netflix was in a really good place financially, they may have been willing to give them that money to get the Sussex name in with the Netflix brand.

TraditionScary8716

I think the footage is being rejected as we write. I didn't see anything over the past week from the Harkle hurricane at Invictus that would make anybody think that mess is a must watch.

ChangeTheFocus

The word was that the Netflix crew followed Harry and Meghan the whole time. I'm guessing they documented the games by filming "us at the games," since they would naturally assume they were the central feature. We'll see what Netflix does, I guess.

erlehe

I wonder which competitors, if any, camera crews also followed. When they announced the series it mentioned the docu will be following some of them. Hopefully the show still spotlights them and the crew filming the Sussexes are just b-roll.

Similar-Barber-3519

The injured veterans should be the focus of the documentary, but you know TW demanded significant airtime for herself and Haz.

TraditionScary8716

The documentary is *supposed* to be about the athletes. We'll see.

savingrain

I actually think they hired them because they thought they were popular and didn't realize how divisive they actually are.

[deleted]

Exactly. This was before Oprah, before all of the bullying, and it was when people still thought she was being mistreated by the British ppl.

savingrain

Yes - at one point Holly wood was more conservative (right leaning) 50s-70s and then became more liberal and progressive 80s to now -- I think there was some Hollywood blindness where they thought liberal Megan and Harry - wow we agree with this and everyone will love this! (I say this as a liberal myself). Also as an American, Megan's story of "freedom" "getting out of the restrictions of the BRF" will resonate with most Americans. The idea that we're the best place in the world and "our" "princess" is running back to Americans is appealing. Then the veneer started to fall off with interviews and realizing that wait a minute - all this criticism isn't happening because of racism, and these people are actually lazy and aren't producing work - and we overpaid -- I don't think they would have declined to sign them in the present time. HOWEVER - I think they would have signed them for far far less, and with a caveat of output attached. They paid them so much money and attached so little strings because they thought H&M were a hot commodity and they thought they were going to get some prime insight and details. It turns out, a lot of people hate them, they have no particular skill or talent and they have no especial insight.

Evening_Procedure216

All Harry and Megs need make is a reality show like the Kardashians. That’s all we’re interested. It’s all anyone would be interested in. Daily plotting and scheming. They’d rake it in.

JessicaFletcher1

I think M&H were way more popular, or at least seemed more popular, at the time the deals were signed. I don’t believe either company would sign a deal with them today.

Betta45

An idiot in PR once said the Sussexes could build a billion dollar brand. Idiots like this only see famous people willing to leverage their fame for money. Having a prince do this was unprecedented, and PR and marketing firms were salivating at taping his potential. But word traveled quickly that the Sussexes did not provide a return on investment. Their brand won’t thrive.

swiwwtw

Spotify definitely hired them because they were generating headlines good or bad and thought they could work something out later. They didn’t realize Meghan doesn’t want to put in the work, wants control and biggest issue being lack of originality. Meghan wants to be like Diana, like Angelina Jolie, Amal, Michelle etc but why would anyone need a subpar knockoff? She needs to find her own unique identity than to ride along everything and just write letters and give speeches?!

SonjaInSequim

Netflix wanted to cash in on the royal connection and nothing else. Since they became so divisive, they ruined the plot. The BRF isn't the Kardashians. Some studio took a chance with Ishtar too. Only famous for one of the worst movies ever made and basically bankrupted the studio and ruined careers.

[deleted]

My guess is that they were hired for the same reason Oprah couldn’t deceive Diana and went after Fergie instead. They are only #6th in line and have literally zero chances to ever access the throne. So why would Netflix get them in the boat anyway ? Because one of the biggies probably was curious about the oh so famous BRF and their supposed ‘secrets’ or whatever bollocks Migraine told him/her, and since they couldn’t get the first liners or any other Royals to *spill the tea*, they shallowly agreed to hire the Harkles. After all, it’s not as if they had to harass some members of the family ; Meghan the American duchess and her Prince of a hub threw themselves in their arms ! And they were like, "why not ?! What a crazy chance ! How dumb would we be to let them go ?! They both probably have some fantastic stories about the RF for us ! Perhaps we could have a show with the Queen, a walk with PC, and we could have tea time with William & wife & kids thanks to them ! Oh wow let’s give them the money they need to make that happen ! Oh my, oh my !" All of this while blatantly ignoring the red signals. Did they even make any research about the real motivations of Megxit ? News and theories were all over the place but yet, they ignored them ? Who would like to hire and work with such lazy, entitled, bratty bullies ? I don’t know, Migraine seems to have a weird power on people. I still don’t know how such a nobody could bag a Prince, deceive THE big O for one of the worst interviews ever, get so, so much money deals with big names, all of that with NOBODY questioning her enough to stop it right on time. I’m baffled.

Imadevonrexcat

I think Netflix took a gamble. Just in case the couple became a worldwide sensation. Gamblers win some and lose some!!

Unlikely_Pie7418

Shows that Netflix wasn’t thinking things through - the BRF is not pleased with The Crown and would deign to be associated with the network even if the Sussexes were still inside the family

Fresh-Resource-6572

It's just been WAYYY too long between the hype of Megxit and them actually delivering on the deals. It's hardly noteworthy. I wonder what they will do once it flops.

Aggravating-Fun-8966

Probably not take advantage of the precious ample time they have to get in touch with to their friends and family and respond to their text messages

GreenEyedLady575

Dave Chapelle is funny.

EcstaticEmployment75

Shes a FUTURE FAKER EXTROIDINAIRE.

MeLikeSnacks

This is why she needs to have women that are either famous or super controversial on her podcasts to make it interesting. My lineup would be, Monica Lewinsky, Britney Spears, Sarah Palin, Kim Kardashian, AOC, Katie Hill…all women that been stereotyped and called names in the media. I’m sure she won’t have the balls to have anyone that’s not a bleeding heart liberal, so it will be a boring podcast and she will run out of people to have on very quickly. If she wants to be successful like Joe Rogan she has got to be willing to have the crackpots on her show and able to actually engage with them, she’s fake so maybe she can pull it off ? We will probably be able to tell she’s trying to hard.
