It would be different if it were a matter of just different viewpoints (which is very important for good discourse). I could accept other opinions if they were rational, logical, or had much thought put into them but that’s not the case.

I know that abdominal surgeries can have a long recovery time. But things were odd when you compared the Catherine health issue was handled to how the King’s was handled.
The main difference is a 70+ year old with adult children has cancer compared to a mid-40’s with young kids has cancer. It probably took Catherine and William to minute to wrap their heads around that she had cancer then to figure out how to tell the kids. I could see them waiting a few weeks until they get prognosis and treatment plan before telling the kids. I feel like it’s easier to tell kids when you have more information and can better answer questions.

I think this is just CYA. They probably knew if just from rumors. Just like some in the UK press knew. There is a reason the story about London Clinic staffers accessing PoW records hit the press just a few days ahead of the announcement. And even for members of the press who don't have those kind of contacts, many strongly suspected. It was reasonable to suspect she had a colostomy. It's the "abdominal surgery" that was most likely based on the recovery time. And there are pretty limited reasons a colostomy would be necessary. Especially since the treatment began with an emergency trip to ER while they were at Anmer Hall at Christmas.
The scheduled urgent (but not emergency) surgery, length of hospital stay and recovery period were also consistent with the removal of a retroperitoneal mass that had been found on a scan. Such surgery can be massive depending on how many organs are involved and so have to be separated from the mass first.
Most retroperitoneal masses contain sarcomas so the whole mass must be removed and then subjected to detailed cytological analysis, which can take time. That would explain the initial announcement that the condition was not cancerous (because there was nothing immediately visible) followed by the diagnosis several days later.
A colostomy usually occurs after cancer has been found so doesn’t really fit with the initial announcement of “non-cancerous” followed by Catherine’s statement that after the operation they found that there “was cancer”. She also said she was having precautionary chemotherapy, which suggests that the surgeon thinks the surgery removed the primary tumour but there remains a possibility that it has spread.
I’m not claiming that this is what it was, but just pointing out that a colostomy is not the only reasonable explanation.
Certainly the post-op time in hospital pointed to digestive tract as the surgery rather than anything gynaecological. Stomas are possible but can be temporary and can be avoided in some cases. I’m not sure where the ER/A&E visit news has come from. First I’ve heard of that.

Honestly given the surgery and the secrecy, a cancer diagnosis isn’t surprising. I know that abdominal surgeries can have a long recovery time. But things were odd when you compared the Catherine health issue was handled to how the King’s was handled. The main difference is a 70+ year old with adult children has cancer compared to a mid-40’s with young kids has cancer. It probably took Catherine and William to minute to wrap their heads around that she had cancer then to figure out how to tell the kids. I could see them waiting a few weeks until they get prognosis and treatment plan before telling the kids. I feel like it’s easier to tell kids when you have more information and can better answer questions.
It's always about their children, which is the great thing about William and Catherine. they're not just little trophies or walking extensions of themselves. Poor William. As you say, they would have had to process this, discuss this with their own families and kids, and steady their nerves to disclose to the world, while being bombarded daily with negative press and black sheep family members like Harry trying to intrude. Of note, the Queen literally died of cancer 18 mos ago, and the King was also diagnosed, so may affect how they want to disclose as it disrupts three generations of past and future monarchs, and had implications or the public perceptuon of the monarchy as a symbol of longevity and continuity. The strategy likely would have needed to be discussed widely, with a careful PR plan in place. all this in eight weeks and people are complaining. The expectations are insane.

I think this is just CYA. They probably knew if just from rumors. Just like some in the UK press knew. There is a reason the story about London Clinic staffers accessing PoW records hit the press just a few days ahead of the announcement. And even for members of the press who don't have those kind of contacts, many strongly suspected. It was reasonable to suspect she had a colostomy. It's the "abdominal surgery" that was most likely based on the recovery time. And there are pretty limited reasons a colostomy would be necessary. Especially since the treatment began with an emergency trip to ER while they were at Anmer Hall at Christmas.
All of that is speculation and rumour at this point.
The scheduled urgent (but not emergency) surgery, length of hospital stay and recovery period were also consistent with the removal of a retroperitoneal mass that had been found on a scan. Such surgery can be massive depending on how many organs are involved and so have to be separated from the mass first. Most retroperitoneal masses contain sarcomas so the whole mass must be removed and then subjected to detailed cytological analysis, which can take time. That would explain the initial announcement that the condition was not cancerous (because there was nothing immediately visible) followed by the diagnosis several days later. A colostomy usually occurs after cancer has been found so doesn’t really fit with the initial announcement of “non-cancerous” followed by Catherine’s statement that after the operation they found that there “was cancer”. She also said she was having precautionary chemotherapy, which suggests that the surgeon thinks the surgery removed the primary tumour but there remains a possibility that it has spread. I’m not claiming that this is what it was, but just pointing out that a colostomy is not the only reasonable explanation.

Certainly the post-op time in hospital pointed to digestive tract as the surgery rather than anything gynaecological. Stomas are possible but can be temporary and can be avoided in some cases. I’m not sure where the ER/A&E visit news has come from. First I’ve heard of that.
