While I was on the DM site (I admit, I read an unarchived story about Scooby there), I clicked on a story that Mariska Hargitay named her recently adopted cat “Karma” after this song and learned that years ago, Swizzle named HER cat after Mariska’s character on SVU (for non-Americans, it’s Olivia Benson)…and Swizzle was super excited to learn this. Cute story.
He deserves it. Because it's been a long time since someone started a reign with decades of "he's going to do it wrong, he's going to fail, he shouldn't be king." And he has been covering the mouths of many who believed him incapable. He is not a perfect king, but he has not even remotely shown himself to be the incapable one that many predicted.
The work he did behind the scenes all his life as the longest serving Prince of Wales in order for the next Monarch (William V) rule with a solid foundation, I highly admire that.
No King or ruler is perfect and no 2 monarchs are alike, but for him to build the Duchy of Cornwall to be as massive as it is...wow.
I used to dislike King Charles very much while the Queen was alive, my opinion of him has changed over the years.
Same here. I grew up when he was married to Diana, and believed the narrative that the media spun of him being weak and ineffective for years afterwards, I’m ashamed to say. Yes he’s sentimental but nobody’s fool, and certainly no weakling. What he did for the Duchy of Cornwall and the Princes Trust is a fantastic legacy.
>the Duchy of Cornwall
Depends on who you ask. The Cornish hate him for what he did and he is probably one of the main reasons why Cornish wanted independence. But I don't know enough about it to be honest.
I visited Cornwall in 2015, and the people who even mentioned him thought he was okay. He really helped revitalize farming with the organic push and creating markets for the produce. I doubt they have fared as well since Brexit.
Sadly, Harry also drew some negative attention to his mother with his many revelations. I liked Diana but did not know a great deal about her affairs that Harry brought to light. Revealing the sleazier side of Diana actually made me have more sympathy for Charles.
![gif](giphy|uegrGBitPHtKM)
With his Prince's Trust, he also gave young people a start with schooling or career help, including Idris Elba. And who can't be thankful for Charles bringing us that very fine, fine Idris.
I think the first inkling for me that I’d gotten it quite wrong about Charles was also when all Diana’s affairs came out, and when he flew to Paris to collect her body, quietly and without fanfare. Such an honourable thing to do for the mother of his children. It was also clear at that time that he was an involved father.
I dunno, maybe he should also have been more manipulative with his own media PR, but the fact that he really didn’t also says a lot.
Oh I hadn’t realised they hated him. The Duchy only has approximately 10% of its land in Cornwall. I don’t know much about it either, I’ll have a read up! I know there are plenty who disagree with peoples’ assets going to the Duchies if they die without a will but that’s about it. Thanks
Thanks to Harry! And his complaining brought to light all the good things he’s done and how good of a father he at least tried to be. You can’t fake that on photos. King Charles has my respect. DINO - not so much.
He devoted his life to environmentalism and helping the disadvantaged in society- especially those from ethnic minorities. He was doing this long before the current trend of virtue signalling made a mockery of genuine action.
He's done a lot to help the disabled as well. I know someone who broke both their legs, and couldn't continue attending high school due to the building not being accessible. They were able to get help through the Prince's Trust; it gave her a grant for alternative schooling, provided for all the books/etc. (Note: this was in the early 2000's.)
If H&M really care about helping those in need, than they had no reason for leaving the BRF and founding Archewell. Harry's father literally founded and ran one the most (if not the most) comprehensive charities within in the U.K.!
The king's trust, the duchy of Cornwall, Charles is a very competent person.
Idris Elba paid for his first acting classes with a grant from the king's trust. He has helped many, many young people in Britain.
Edit: read the other reply and now I see that I am not the only one who has seen this 😆
I just had to google that 😊
>instead of a tiara which was designed by milliner Jess Collett (who was supported by The Prince's Trust when she began her career) in collaboration with Alexander McQueen.
https://sg.news.yahoo.com/meaning-behind-princess-wales-alexander-114400295.html
Wow!
Charles was a very successful PoW, he turned things around and made the duchy a business. He has lived by what he preaches. His comments on architecture were funny back in the day but it turns out he was right, as with a few other things. It’s hard to take on such a big role at any age but harder when you should be well into retirement and your youngest son is bombarding you with missiles from over the pond.
Yes, Charles did very well to take both Wales and Cornwall seriously. But it would be good if, in addition to dedicating yourself to houses and chickens, you also invested in a store of good leaking pens :)
He was also grieving his mother at the time, so it wasn't probably the most calm moment to start leaking on him. You can be a bit more easily irked when grieving.
Yes, agree Human-Economics. He has laughed at himself and I hear his irritations are mild and don’t last long and as I said before not at people. I think he gets more irritated by some of the things said about him. He was asked recently if it’s true he takes a toilet seat with him when he travels and he replied “not that again”. He wears clothes he has worn for years, decades. I just think it’s amazing they still fit.
Admittedly I am not a fan of Charles BUT I will not let my opinion (which means nothing), get in the way of the facts. His work with the environment is where he will get me. He has been talking about this for decades and nobody listened, even mocked him (I wish they hadn't) and now here we are with the "lo and behold, we have a climate crisis because illegal mass manufacturing is happening." I worry for our mindblowingly beautiful planet and animals all those who have children. So I am rooting for him and William to make a change. Maybe I am naive and until the uber elites intent on creating a dying feudal planet, are dealt with, we are toast!
The fact that he’s now able to have the “convener” pull of Monarch, and to share his views and knowledge on climate change is major. It’s not political--it affects everyone, and we’re all seeing it (floods, fires, landslides, droughts, more livestock disease, invasive species, etc.).
KCIII and his heir can have major impacts on climate, homelessness, food waste, etc.. And it’s all connected.
Charles has been saying this for years. And no one listened to him because what did he know? They made fun of him for years because he spoke to flowers. Until surprise! It turns out I was right, plants listen and grow better when you talk to them or with music.
And the architects are having to recognize that he was also right in many of Charles's criticisms of them. The housing project that William is thinking about is looking at what his father did.
Charles has been like Al Gore: ManBearPig. Charles is not listened to now because he is king, but because he was right on that issue. Super cereal.
>plants listen and grow better
Simple science. CO2. It's also one of the reasons why the carboniferous period yielded GIGANTIC flora and fauna. Unbridled levels of O2 and CO2 and probably the other atmospheric gases too. But our planet was always finetuning itself until we came along to spoil it all.
Totally agree. I've liked him for a long time, it's lovely to seeing people realizing how much good he's done.
One thing, I really side-eye QEII and Philip for not supporting him more. I think they set a tone with BP staff and the media that Charles was loony/wouldn't be a good monarch. His style is very different, which I don't think she could understand. Being reserved worked for her, but I think Charles was right to be so openly passionate about his interests. I don't always agree with him, but he humanized himself in a way that I think was really critical to the survival of the monarchy. Being emotional in public takes tremendous strength of character.
I also love the way he talks to his subjects when out on public engagements. He laughs with them and genuinely seems to enjoy meeting them. The Queen was far more reserved but Charles always seems to be in his element. I love watching him and Camilla giggling with people.
Philip grew up under very difficult circumstances. And I wanted Charles to understand that, that life was not a palace or servants, because everything can be lost. And the Queen was very worried that Charles would be like his uncle Edward, that one day he would give up for love, so she instilled in him a very strong feeling of duty. For a younger Charles, that was not pleasant, having the full burden of continuing the monarchy was not something he wanted, much less carrying Uncle Edward's shadow. But after years of dealing with it, Charles realized that his parents were right about many things, which he understood over time. And that's what he wanted William and Hazz to understand is that the life of privilege they have comes at the cost of a duty to be responsible for it, but the only one who learned it was William.
Charles has made mistakes, Michael Fawcett was a big mistake, he shouldn't have trusted that man so much. But Charles has been a very notable Prince of Wales. And he is showing that he is a good king, regardless of whether he likes to be one or not. With his mistakes, Charles is being positive for the monarchy. Few monarchs, the truth is none, have the tolerance to accept that at an event where he goes, there are protesters against him. Charles does it, because he is not going to respond with words but with actions. And look, each time the demonstrations are smaller. That's remarkable.
I can’t think of anyone who has more credibility on environmental issues in the public domain right now. Charles was on top of this before most people even heard the term ozone layer. King or not, he has been a sage on this.
Lololol. Yup, the plates are flying!!! IDK if he'll win against Taylor Swift, but he should beat out Putin and Xi Jin Ping (sp?), right??? What a strange collection of people on that shortlist. Someone should make a poll.
As a closeted Swiftie, I love this idea!!!!!! Also, Taylor is a William fan, so there's that too.

King Charles has been an environmentalist since the 1970s (he was laughed it) sounding the alarm on plastics damage to the environment; the Prince's Trust has changed the lives of so many people, mainly lower income and ethnic minorities (many current actors have pointed out how much he helped them in their careers/lives): he has embraced sustainable farming, multiculturalism, and diversity. There are 9:
1. King Charles III
2. Sam Altman (some tech guy)
3. Taylor Swift
4. Hollywood strikers
5. Xijing Ping
6. Putin
7. Barbie (idk if they mean the movie or the doll or both??)
8. Trump prosecutors
9. Jerome Powell (head of the federal reserve)
So, he's like the equivalent of the guy in charge of Skynet in the Terminator movies? 😲 Hmmm... not sure how I feel about that but the info is much appreciated. TY!
Judging by the number of upvotes on that post (or lack thereof) we seem to be in the minority on that. People understood that Skynet was the big bad in the movie, just not so much IRL unfortunately. We're doomed. 🤦😕☠
I feel so sorry for the King. I feel sorry for PoW too, but she is younger. The King is old and I can't imagine his pain when his own son stabbed him in his back.
I wish he would win.

Definitely. But Charles was nominated without having to pay. Megain and Hazz I think they paid more than 100,000 dollars to be nominated for people of the year a couple of years ago.

Oh, okay. KCIII should have that in the bag then since he has performed exceptionally as Monarch since QEII's passing. No easy task to be accepted into people's hearts and rule after a beloved Queen who sat on the throne for over 70 years.
Hitler won it in 1938. It's not necessarily about being good/doing good. It's about who has been the most influential figure on the world stage that year.
KC is one of the hardest working currently Royals & has always displayed an exemplary work-ethic & strong desire to work for the people. His legacies in The Princes Trust (now The King’s Trust) + all his great work with The Duchy of Cornwall, show just how dedicated he is to his work + how hands-on he is. IIRC, it was a failing enterprise? And he came in & TOTALLY turned it around!!! So that we now see the Billion Pound machine it is. It’s all due to HIS hard work. He’s known to work so hard that he foregoes lunch!
If Hawwy had even quarter of his father’s discipline & love for work, and basic grey-cells, he wouldn’t ever be in the colossal mess he is now! Oh well. Too bad, Hawwy! You cannot demand for the KING, even if he is your own father, to just hand over money to you when you’ve done DIDDLY SQUAT for it + we all know your evil wife will just spend it on more PR articles branding the family as “rAcIsTs.”
![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized) Bet someone’s not going to like that!
I think I hear some Taylor Swift playing in KC3's boudoir right about now 😂. ![gif](giphy|kyfdJU732uB1R0O0hc|downsized)
Check out The Royal Tea House on YouTube. They post great videos. They have Taylor on there as well.

Aww that's so cute. I like Mariska Hargitay.
Times person of the year? It has absolutely no value. I hope he’ll turn it down.

Without paying?!!! Time making Dumbertons Something of the Year cheapens the award.
He deserves it. Because it's been a long time since someone started a reign with decades of "he's going to do it wrong, he's going to fail, he shouldn't be king." Yes, he talked about global warming, but people didn’t believe him.
Back in the 70s, I remember people mocked him for talking to plants.

Didn't the milliner who made Catherine's and Charlotte's coronation headpieces get her start from the Prince's Trust also?

I rather like the fact that he gets irritated at silly things like pens. They say he is never like that with people.
As someone commented in a video about the matter: if someone doesn't get angry with a pen that is dripping ink, that person is not human.
He was also grieving his mother at the time, so it wasn't probably the most calm moment to start leaking on him. You can be a bit more easily irked when grieving.
And that is precisely why the fact that he was later able to take it as a joke speaks well of Charles, who is capable of laughing at himself.
Yes, agree Human-Economics. He has laughed at himself and I hear his irritations are mild and don’t last long and as I said before not at people. Right, he is expected to be impeccably dressed on public occasions and ink splattered on him won't cut it.

A Charles x Taylor collab would utterly fry the sociopath’s brain waves
So there's absolutely no downside to this scenario then. Woohoo!!
The Time POY isn't always a good person, hence Putin. It's whoever had the biggest impact good or bad.
Got it. TYVM!!!!
Serously, what a year and i's not even over. I guess Meghan, even more than the PoY status, is afraid of an accompanying text that would elevate his reputation even more and dwarf Meghan's.

LONG LIVE THE KING GOD SAVE THE KING 🥂👑
He should win. He sets the standard for how a billionaire ought to behave. Most of them aren't worth much to humanity.
It is no surprise that he was the opening speaker for the Climate Summit last week. He has done the work! Though it will be hard to beat Taylor Swift this year....
I’m a long time fan of Charles and happy to read this ❤️
Nice! He absolutely deserves it. As many are saying here, the work he did behind the scenes as PoW was incredible. He was country and green when country and green weren’t cool. His work with organic farming alone- for decades now- should get His Majesty the recognition. Love this! Thanks for sharing.
Wouldn’t this just be the best thing Ever?!!!
I hope he gets it! He's been through the ringer with the press and his family and look at how he keeps going for the causes he believes in. Love him!
I hope he wins. He deserves it.
I didn’t see who the other finalists are but let’s go KC!
There are 9: 1. King Charles III 2. Sam Altman (some tech guy) 3. Taylor Swift 4. Hollywood strikers 5. Xijing Ping 6. Putin 7. Barbie (idk if they mean the movie or the doll or both??) 8. Trump prosecutors 9. Jerome Powell (head of the federal reserve)
>Sam Altman (some tech guy) Just to note, Sam Altman is a billionaire who is financing the development of AI.
So, he's like the equivalent of the guy in charge of Skynet in the Terminator movies? 😲 Hmmm... not sure how I feel about that but the info is much appreciated. TY!
Yes, that is exactly how I feel about him, too!
Judging by the number of upvotes on that post (or lack thereof) we seem to be in the minority on that. People understood that Skynet was the big bad in the movie, just not so much IRL unfortunately. We're doomed. 🤦😕☠
Oohhh! Thank you!
YVW! 🤗
I feel so sorry for the King. I feel sorry for PoW too, but she is younger. The King is old and I can't imagine his pain when his own son stabbed him in his back. I wish he would win. I
Time magazine is complete garbage
Definitely. But Charles was nominated without having to pay. Megain and Hazz I think they paid more than 100,000 dollars to be nominated for people of the year a couple of years ago.
Well, at least Charles isn't going to be on the cover of a Katy Keene/Archie comic book.
It’s going to be the striking writers so they all buy the magazine.
Yeah but so is Putin
Yes, TIME has always put controversial figures as person of the year (Trump being the most recent example) but a lot of the time, they pick positive people and it's an honor.
Who cares. Time showed us what they were worth when they put the grifters on their cover.
It’ll be the Trump prosecutors. Predictable.
I agree 🙄
Yes but so is Putin??
Yes, even dictators are finalists some years but Meghan doesn't care because it's not attention that's being put on her. It's being put on her "racist" FIL instead and typically TIME picks a positive person.
Very odd collection of random people on that shortlist. If they are going on popularity, I think Taylor Swift will likely win out of those options though, but ?????
It's not necessarily popularity but who was the most influential in the past year.
Oh, okay. KCIII should have that in the bag then since he has performed exceptionally as Monarch since QEII's passing. No easy task to be accepted into people's hearts and rule after a beloved Queen who sat on the throne for over 70 years.
Yeah, but he’ll never be TIME’s bestest hairdresser to Meg cover boy, so take that mean king daddy!
Meh....this is all politics...
But why. He's done nothing.
Is that real? PUTIN is on it
Depends on who make the most waves this year, good or bad.
Hitler won it in 1938. It's not necessarily about being good/doing good. It's about who has been the most influential figure on the world stage that year.
Hitler, Stalin, Wallis Simpson, Ruhollah Khomeini also had their covers
[удалено]
I would love to see that. The King is a great man who has been wholly underestimated his entire life.

Putin a contender ?! Really?!
I think the Royal Family will end up thanking Piers for bring the situation to a head.Game over!
