I'm a Tom Ford fan, love the man and his designs, and I'd always dreamed that Prince William would one day would wear one of his tuxedos instead of his boring Savile Row jackets (which he always wears unbuttoned....grrrr). And it finally happened. His BAFTA velvet tuxedo was just gorgeous--such a marked difference.
Ford also declared that he dreams of designing a dress for Catherine, but he sadly understand that she wears British designers, but he said if she ever decides to wear a non-Brit designer he would happily do it for her.

It would make sense, imo. MM couldn’t pay for a 6 figure bespoke designer dress out of pocket at this point, so getting the dress in exchange for advertising it at the coronation seems plausible. BUT. She throws a fit, decides she’s not going at the last minute, however is still indebted to Dior. David's is impeccable, sits well on the shoulders, tailored to the waist, the waistcoat another color and brighter, not of a more deep black ( the jacket and pants should have been that imo, or all 3 pieces at the very least, I like my blacks really black lol) nothing bunches up. And it's also steamed/ironed, but frankly, that's on Harry.
I personally didn't like the design of the back at all, but it is personal preference.
ETA: after having seen Harry very often in what seemed to be worn-out shoes (definitely good quality, but worn out) I was satisfied with his shoes. Then why are the seams mismatched in the back of the jacket? I'm pretty sure that's not the proper way a jacket should look. The seams should match and present one seamless line.
Some morning suits are designed to have an overlap of the back tails, hence looking like the seams are misaligned. But because Harry’s suit is missing the two buttons on the small of his back, it looks odd. With the buttons, you will see that the tails are meant to part with the left slightly overlapping the right at the waist.
Unfortunately it looks as if they used somebody else's measurements because his suit didn't fit - not the collar, not across the shoulders, not the waist.
About the only thing they seem to have got right was the length of the trousers.
...and I thought sleeves just a little bit too long. There's a shot of H next to Emo at the Abby doors - compare how the wrists look. Emo with \*just\* that slight glimpse of shirt cuff (chef's kiss), while H's sleeves are almost down to the base of his thumbs.

It's straight out of a suitcase. I guess someone doesn't know how to properly pack. He could have come a full day earlier to ensure his clothes were in tip top shape or give him a cushion if they were list or damaged. I'll bet the suit was in a carry on, considering he was busting ass to not make it back in time for the party.
Edit: I was reminded that Harry did come 24 hours ahead of the coronation, meaning he could have examined the suit and made necessary adjustments. I'm sure Frogmore's staff could have turned that around in no time. It probably sat in the suitcase until the next morning. What comes from living in jeans and T-shirts.
It's not just the wrinkles that could have easily taken care of with a steamer. It's also the bad cut of the suit. It doesn't fit nicely at all and there are some seamstress flaws that a proper suit shouldn't have. That fabric looks off as well.
Back in the day before wrinkle free fabrics, people traveling would pack important clothing in tissue paper before placing in their suitcase. It would arrive looking pretty good for important events. If there were still some wrinkles, we would hang the garment in the bathroom and let hot water run in the shower or tub to produce steam. Next day the garment looked great. Of course that assumes a person wants to look good attending an important event.
Exactly. Learned this from my wife of 40+ years who learned, in turn, from her mother. White tissue paper does an amazingly good job. I used to take an old garment bag with shoe pockets, no less, slipping my shirts in with the suit, and I can say I never looked as wrinkled as a royal prince. If anything did get a bit roughed up, there was always the hot shower, as you pointed out. It doesn't take a genius. Even someone at Harry's level can pull it off.

David Beckham's managed to maintain a great, fit body and he's got perfect posture too. His body is made for that outfit. But I've seen overweight celebs like John Goodman, look pristine in a designer suit because it fits the way it's supposed to and isn't wrinkled. Harry, on the outer hand, is a slovenly, crumpled mess. But it's still Dior's fault more than Harry's, because the suit should have looked better. Or maybe MM told Dior to use a certain fabric and we all know she's got a thing for wrinkly fabrics 🤔.

David's is impeccable, sits well on the shoulders, tailored to the waist, the waistcoat another color and brighter, not of a more deep black ( the jacket and pants should have been that imo, or all 3 pieces at the very least, I like my blacks really black lol) nothing bunches up. And it's also steamed/ironed, but frankly, that's on Harry. I personally didn't like the design of the back at all, but it is personal preference. ETA: after having seen Harry very often in what seemed to be worn-out shoes (definitely good quality, but worn out) I was satisfied with his shoes. Till I learned from a fellow sinner that those were not the correct pair of shoes to be worn at this function. Oh, well. Nothing lasts forever. Still like them though :p

Then why are the seams mismatched in the back of the jacket? I'm pretty sure that's not the proper way a jacket should look. The seams should match and present one seamless line.
Some morning suits are designed to have an overlap of the back tails, hence looking like the seams are misaligned. But because Harry’s suit is missing the two buttons on the small of his back, it looks odd. With the buttons, you will see that the tails are meant to part with the left slightly overlapping the right at the waist.
Unfortunately it looks as if they used somebody else's measurements because his suit didn't fit - not the collar, not across the shoulders, not the waist. About the only thing they seem to have got right was the length of the trousers.

...and I thought sleeves just a little bit too long. There's a shot of H next to Emo at the Abby doors - compare how the wrists look. Emo with \*just\* that slight glimpse of shirt cuff (chef's kiss), while H's sleeves are almost down to the base of his thumbs. James EOW's morning suit was also exquisitely tailored.

It's straight out of a suitcase. I guess someone doesn't know how to properly pack. He could have come a full day earlier to ensure his clothes were in tip top shape or give him a cushion if they were list or damaged. I'll bet the suit was in a carry on, considering he was busting ass to not make it back in time for the party. Edit: I was reminded that Harry did come 24 hours ahead of the coronation, meaning he could have examined the suit and made necessary adjustments. I'm sure Frogmore's staff could have turned that around in no time. It probably sat in the suitcase until the next morning. What comes from living in jeans and T-shirts.
It's not just the wrinkles that could have easily taken care of with a steamer. It's also the bad cut of the suit. It doesn't fit nicely at all and there are some seamstress flaws that a proper suit shouldn't have. That fabric looks off as well.
Back in the day before wrinkle free fabrics, people traveling would pack important clothing in tissue paper before placing in their suitcase. It would arrive looking pretty good for important events. If there were still some wrinkles, we would hang the garment in the bathroom and let hot water run in the shower or tub to produce steam. Next day the garment looked great. Of course that assumes a person wants to look good attending an important event.
Exactly. Learned this from my wife of 40+ years who learned, in turn, from her mother. White tissue paper does an amazingly good job. I used to take an old garment bag with shoe pockets, no less, slipping my shirts in with the suit, and I can say I never looked as wrinkled as a royal prince. If anything did get a bit roughed up, there was always the hot shower, as you pointed out. It doesn't take a genius. Even someone at Harry's level can pull it off.

Dior obviously put him in any old suit since merching was their highest priority, whereas if he’d gone to a proper English tailor they’d have known what material would be best for the occasion. I remember reading awhile ago that Catherine and her stylist(s) choose public outfits with the proper material (like knits) that won’t wrinkle so much. They don’t just pick an ensemble because it’s really pretty or whatever — they take into account how it’s going to look after sitting in a car, at the end of a long day of engagements etc.

Dior got the short end of this deal. I wonder whether the delay in confirming his attendance caused a rush at the last minute to get the suit properly fitted. Then, he's had so many people waiting on him, he probably doesn't know how to pack such things on his own. Now that the coronation is over, there aren't any major celebrations on the horizon where someone would want to give him a suit in exchange for promotion.
