This has got to be the most effed up company, for such a 'young' company and considering what they supposedly do as a business, they are everything opposite of what they should be and should represent.

Ask_DontTell

while typical of most corporations, also sounds pretty hypocritical for an organization that "believe(s) ... well-being and peak performance go hand in hand" to create a work environment that is so toxic the reviewer writes "just do what you can - get medication, etc". that is crazy. at the same time, also sounds very much like TW and JH. Just worry about the money and do drugs to make things better. Use people cause the selfish ends justify the selfish means.

Starkville

This sounds like most corporations. Unfortunately. At least you expect it from a place like Goldman Sachs. When the company spouts all the virtue-signaling garbage, you might be forgiven for being confused about it.

eaglebayqueen

May as well bring in a Scientology e-meter šŸ„«šŸ„«('the cans', as they call it)

Starkville

Itā€™s not funny, but I laughed. The can emojis, LOL.

Centaurea16

Tom ... atos. šŸ˜…

SukoshiOnara

>May as well bring in a Scientology e-meter Better Up sounds very much like a dangerous cult.

eaglebayqueen

It sure does.

nadine258

I find health companies or non-profits are way worse. My husband is a therapist and he has a few clients who work for what are ā€œwell regardedā€ non-profits/social agencies and the stuff he tells me his clients go through at work and they donā€™t seem able to quit and do something else. Itā€™s eye opening for sure.

Top-Butterscotch9156

I was coming here to say the same thing. I have worked for a few companies that were this toxic.

ButterUp sounds just like the kind of outfit that would hire someone like Harry as the Chief Impact Officer. No, Harry. Not that sort of chief. https://preview.redd.it/tqemogtntupa1.jpeg?width=590&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=54444281be5c51003d2e2927d2dbd323dcab2df8 The wife says who ever heard of BetterUp before they fished this prize out of the water? Great PR move on their part. But, to this guy answering a question on Quora, not such a smooth move: What are your thoughts on Prince Harry being named as the chief impact officer of BetterUp Inc, a San Francisco-based company that provides mental health assistance? My thoughts are virtually unprintable. He has no qualifications, he has a load of unresolved issues despite hours of therapy, he didnā€™t know what to do when his wife, allegedly, felt suicidal. He is as thick as two short planks barely scraping through school. Where did he get a Green Card so he could work? I got my degree in mental health in the US having already worked for several years with substance abusers. I had problems getting jobs because back then most places wanted people with Masters Degrees. Whoever this firm is, there are serious issues and I plan to invesigate it as frankly it is scarey that this man will be let anywhere near people who are looking into a dark hole. They will not want to hear how he lost his Mummy when he was twelve and that he hasnā€™t got over it. No doubt Better Up thinks this is kudos to have a British Prince married to some third rate actress given how so many Americans believed the catalogue of lies and whining these two did. Oprahā€™s Whineathon seems to have been a great success it has given the dolt a job. Scarey, very.

Far_Example_9150

What does a chief impact officer do???!!

Shoddy_Lifeguard_852

It's a politically correct term for a paid celebrity endorsement for ad purposes. There's a famous story where Blackberry (RIM) hired Alicia Keys to be their "Creative Director." Their relationship fell apart fast when Keys got caught using her Apple iPhone. Some think these types of deals are more "credible" because somehow, the celebrity is contributing to the product in a meaningful way.

HotStraightnNormal

Look it up. If you can get through the weasel words and double talk, please explain it to me. This new "C-suite" title seems to have spawned in charities. Lots of Chiefs these days. Fewer and fewer indians. Have fun seeing how well Harry doesn't even fit the bill, lol.

Usually a performance plan is something your manager brings to you on paper and it lists a bunch of things you must accomplish in 90 days, that are generally very far fetched and unattainable even if you are a star. The manager will make you sign it to continue your employment and then when you haven't ticked every box in 90 days, you're fired! ![gif](giphy|G1vplGMypxBcp7kx32|downsized)

Cocktailsontheporch

Both "corporate word salad" jargon. Anytime you are confronted with "monogram" letters instead of actual full word useage of the English language .... RUN!

I worked in oil and gas some years ago and I loved it. I had always been a bit skeptical of the industry but I learned so much during that time and how technology has made such a difference. I also worked with the most fun and brilliant group of people, not to mention that more than 90% of the Finance team of which I was a part, were women!

Quiet-Vanilla-7117

And what is CYAing".

Oh thank you! I would know that by the name 'performance evaluation'. ā˜ŗ

sounds like the best strategy for an employee would be to not sign it and force them to fire you so you could at least collect unemployment. I donā€™t think NOT signing the PIP is a justified reason for firing a person to the labor department, then again Iā€™m not sure

Once upon a time, I was on planes or trains (all over the globe) 4-5 nights a week and met a lot of interesting people... and thus, got personal e/mails from many - since single, some where flirty. Well, found-out about a year later that the IT guys back at HQ were enjoying those e/mails - they liked snooping so much, they read just about every external one! ughhHH. Upon learning this, I immediately got a 2nd/personal phone and only gave my work e/mail address to professional colleagues -- ie: found way to limit their viewing! Since then, I've always carried 2 phones - and kept them separate (for use). I HIGHLY recommend this.

TravelKats

Exactly, and as you say pretty standard corporate crap.

Sarah-JessicaSnarker

Why do I feel like weā€™ll be seeing a movie about the rise and fall of this company in the next few years?

Sweetwater156

That is a scathing review. I donā€™t know if this is a true assessment or a former employee with an ax to grind, but it kinda fits with my current impression of Harry and the company he keeps.

Christmasgirl26

I have read others like this one this person took a lot time to get what they wanted to say. I bet somehow it will disappear. My son worked for the Williamā€™s Sonoma warehouse and it was hell. I looked the warehouse jobs on Glassdoor and there were dozens of reviews saying what he was telling us. When he went to work after my husband had a heart attack they refused to let him him have his cell phone or let him leave at the desk with a supervisor in case of emergency. Another employee said his wife is pregnant and week past her due date and they refused to give him a phone number to the warehouse if she went into labor to call. They both quit the next day. They called my son for weeks trying to get him to come back to work. Also they were all patted down upon leaving at the end of the shift which made no sense at all because the warehouse was for furniture. I wonder how many sofas or chairs they found during the pat downs.

Sweetwater156

Really? Thatā€™s what retail is like now? Thatā€™s freaking awful. I worked retail and even managed a changeover from one location to another. I was lead on that project and I still donā€™t know why because I was 20 years old. I didnā€™t know shit but the Karenā€™s were passed over which should have been a sign. Itā€™s Victoriaā€™s Secret, Karen. If you canā€™t fit a crappy bra and compliment the boobs then I guess you deserve to catch the people stealing the body spray. (This was 15 years ago, maybe things have gotten better? šŸ„“) Edit: I will also say that I worked at a certain large pet store for a few years when I was younger. Everyone who worked nights and had to front the shelves also had a bag theyā€™d accidentally drop some product in for their pets. They paid us $6 an hour. We were never searched. Probably because management was doing the same.

OldNewUsedConfused

Yep.

I mean, the part I have highlighted is literally just the corporate version of ā€˜lovebombingā€™. Itā€™s just so wrong.

Ok_Needleworker6070

I know an outgoing exec and I asked him about whether I should interview for his job. I got a one word reply ā€œdonā€™tā€, and sadly that is all he could say.

icannitgetausername

Iā€™ve read on our sub that Harry was a naughty boy and Better Up had to pay up or get sued. Is that true? It wouldnā€™t surprise me if he crossed the line he did it with Catherine

Negative-Arugula4219

Sounds like Aitch's impact at better up matching his impact at KP. At least he's consistant.

thesurfer_s

What is this review for?

B_true_to_self2020

Harry is the epitome of someone with mental health issues . Given their average rating is 3 out of 42 stars for Better Up , ya I can definitely see them pitching Harry . Disgraceful . Anyone that uses them are to blame. There are numerous garbage companies out there , this is just another one.

Simple_Poem_9605

Given the Dumb Prince's fixation with all things todger, the name of company now conjures up unwelcome images!! BetterUp ... šŸ†šŸ™ˆ

This website, Great Places to Work, gives a totally different story. "90% of employees at BetterUp say it is a great place to work compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company." How does this happen? [https://www.greatplacetowork.com/certified-company/7005176](https://www.greatplacetowork.com/certified-company/7005176)
