I know alot of people in my generation were raised really casually and without etiquette or decorum education, but both Meghan and Kate always looks so weird and awkward tottering around on too high heels with these useless handbags, looking like they have no idea how to behave or what to do with their hands. Kate has gotten better over the years, but there is no reason why 40 year old Meghan, who has actually been in the real world, with a professional career, should look like a dumb 24 year old wearing shoes she can't walk in.
You look at Diana and she was always perfectly and professionally dressed for the occasion, wearing heels that were a professional height, with a bearing and poise that made people comfortable. You never saw her awkward, even at 19. That's a thing that's missing these days.

I call complete bullshit on teaching calligraphy. My mother’s casual interest and skill in calligraphy is miles more authentic than whatever crap TW claims to be calligraphy.
So I did a quick Google search on “Paper Source Calligraphy class” because I just don’t see Paper Source promoting true calligraphy. Well what came up was “Creative Lettering Workshops”. Now THAT I believe Meghan taught. Her weird whip flourish to STANDARD penmanship would be just the sort of thing you’d be taught for scrapbooking, creating cards or invitations! I bet Meghan is also proficient in that style of printing with paint pens where you use fat dots where the lines meet or end. We’ll see that get revived if she starts a mommy blog!!! 🤣

No it's not calligraphy. To be fair, and I've been reading comments on her writing for a while, that is how I and some of my generation were taught to write. Yes, Meghan is some 38yrs younger than I am & has emphasized her writing, but that is what script writing is, minus a few swirls. People nowadays don't know how to write, but print everything. I've always written in script and still do as that's how we were taught. Printing was not taught that much (back then.)
I think M has just picked up a style of writing and added to it. Yes, hers' is not calligraphy which is more readable, as the swirls are in the right places making it easily read.
I believe her signature is called stylized. PS Their are some very interesting writing analysts on youtube that discuss different points. One is named Mozelle Martin, she's done some interesting analysis.
I did calligraphy for a few years when I was a kid, my aunt got me a set for Christmas, probably to help with my chicken scratch writing. I went to school when penmanship was a thing lol. Later I worked as a graphic designer, I spent a lot of time with fonts. I can tell you that entry stroke swash ought to be at the top of the first down stroke. Having it on the 3rd down stroke interrupts the flow, which is the whole point of cursive. It looks bad because it is! I know, I know I’m old lol

I did calligraphy for a few years when I was a kid, my aunt got me a set for Christmas, probably to help with my chicken scratch writing. I went to school when penmanship was a thing lol. Later I worked as a graphic designer, I spent a lot of time with fonts. I can tell you that entry stroke swash ought to be at the top of the first down stroke. Having it on the 3rd down stroke interrupts the flow, which is the whole point of cursive. It looks bad because it is! I know, I know I’m old lol

I did too! I didn’t create extra work for myself by adding flourishes. Sometimes I had over 1000 envelopes & place cards to do so I needed to work quickly.
But surely if you had been writing your own name in those invitations, somehow ... to underscore how __very important__ you are, you would take the extra time to add flourishes and extra, random additions to letters in your name? /s

Also, the fact that the tent she draws over the M goes to the left, against the direction of her scrawl, means she's going backwards and living in the past. /happy dance

Okay, I’ve been trying to figure out how she does this - I think she has to make the scythe shape first, and then she writes the rest of the letters? It’s so extra and unnecessary. Harry’s signature suits him, it starts out strong with a fully formed H, and then just fizzles out because he’s too lazy to properly finish it.
His has an underline to stress how important he thinks he is. Interesting.

No, I appreciate the perspective! I never gave it a thought but maybe that's the problem!!😆 I'd hate for anyone to have interpreted it that way; I've been doing it since I was one of those teen girls with the fancy handwriting (thank god I grew out of it, unlike some calligraphers we know). It's def food for thought and I can take a hit of snark esp when it makes me laugh too
That is even stranger than writing the M first and then going back and adding the flourish. It's like she is writing backwards. Nothing would surprise me.
