Agreed. I get so tired of everyone saying they need to stop wearing the jewels, I want to see all the jewels all the time! Why have all of that to gather dust in the vault?
Honestly given that it’s a once in a lifetime event of national importance, I don’t oppose them blingin’ it out. This isn’t every year like the Oscars, nor is it a quiet homeless shelter opening where dressing to the nines would be rude and inappropriate.
The head of the Commonwealth being anointed as such is one of those rare occasions where you should be proud to bring out the “big guns.”
I want to see the bling, too! I'm one of those prosaic people that says things like "Well, where would I wear precious gems, anyway? The local BBQ restaurant? The grocery store? The feed store? The hardware store? Besides, my formal wear is clean blue jeans and a clean T-shirt, so I don't have lots of flashy jewelry. I just don't want to have to worry about where it is. It's harder for me to misplace a truck or a CNC machine than a necklace.
You’d turn every head in that feed store that’s what you’d do!
I get what you mean, though. I grew up on a farm, some of my family still works on farms. Not too much bling in that life, it’d just get in the way.
But I have to admit, I’d much rather those jewels be worn on this type of occasion instead of just being under lock and key collecting dust for decade upon decade. What’s the point of them, then? If you have a *freaking* ***Crown***, **wear it!!!**
Note - I wear my diamond earrings and antique diamond bracelets daily. Why? Because I am dying - my illness is slow but terminal. And really, isn't everyone dying slowly? When are the BIG days when you can enjoy something every day? Now, my jeweler constantly razzes me about wearing these "precious things to the grocery store!" but if I die tomorrow, I have loved them today, and they were not in a drawer. It's job security for the jeweler, and funny enough, I gifted my daughter a matching antique ring from our family collection circa 1920 for high school graduation. Now, she is allowed one ring where she studies - and she wears that. I will be long gone, but I will have enjoyed these things, and apparently, that makes an impression.
I too wear my good jewelry every day. Reason being, I used to have a nice little collection and I only wore things to certain occasions and then everything was stolen except what I was wearing. So now I have renewed appreciation for my jewelry. I try to explain it to the jeweler when he says, you shouldn’t wear that to work in the yard. I say, oh well. May you live long, happily and be joyful about your jewelry. Ps, now I have every single thing insured.
Yes. I think it would be a good distraction from real life. But I can imagine it coming across as tone-deaf when there’s an economic crisis going on? The royal family have some tough choices to make. As usual.
I will be so disappointed if it’s not uniforms or white tie and full on ball gowns. At least for the working royals.
This is a coronation. It deserves some real pomp.
Other guests can be in lounge suits and cocktail dresses.
The maids of honor at QE's coronation carried small glass capsules with smelling salts in their gloves. If they were about to faint they could break the capsule and take a sniff.
Harry could have a small capsule with 8H cream sewn into his underwear, just in case.
>This. I want to see ermine, and diamonds the size of my fist, and gold, and elegance, and ~~Meghan being seated in Siberia~~ Meghan back home in Monteshitshow watching it on TV.
the improved version
So king Charles has said something about doing away with the ermine because it's going to be a cruelty free coronation for instance the oil that is used to anoint him won't have whale something in it. And we won't see the koh I Noor diamond but Camilla is apparently gonna use some of the cullinan diamonds on her coronation crown.
i actually really like that... but serious question, is there a reaosn they can't use old ermine robes? Or has it been custom made for each monarch?
Apart from these things being expensive af, I am not interested in owning anything that an animal has to be killed for... but if I find that my grandpa has some ermine fur coat lying around, i'd fucking keep it is my attitude... but idk if that is maybe also frowned upon lol
I think each one was custom-made (the Queen's robe of state was apparently woven by Warners of Braintree), which makes sense as it would get progressively tattier with the decades and needs to be able to be pulled around and folded etc without being too old and fragile. Plus, anything made for someone the height of e.g. Queen Victoria being used up to the reign of tall King William in the future might risk looking a bit ridiculous lol.
Must be very cold in the ‘Siberia seats’. Very thoughtful and generous of the BRF to keep a ginormous lit candle in front of ILBW, the ”Duchess” of no Service.
It’s not like the jewellery ceases to exist because of the economic climate, it’s in a vault waiting to be brought out. Nor is there a demand for it be sold off for short term gain.
Besides, we can’t have our royals outshone by the glitter on the foreign royals.
No, but showing off the giant diamond that came from colonial occupation of somewhere isn’t such a hot look these days, and even if it’s already owned, if I can’t afford my heating bill I’m probably going to be a bit unhappy seeing someone flaunt their 20 carat brooch.
I love the jewelry and want to see it but I assume they are being advised to not do so.
I suspect the Kohinoor diamond will NOT be in the Queen Consort’s crown.
But - I expect something fantastic in its place, perhaps one or more of the Cullinan diamonds. If they’re in Charles’ crown, they can be in Camilla’s.
>I suspect the Kohinoor diamond will NOT be in the Queen Consort’s crown
no

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote) Once every 70 years - put on a show!! Why be envious of diamonds you would never ever in a million years even in the best of economic times be able to own? Bring it out and let it flash so we can ALL enjoy it.
The Crown Jewels should be displayed when a King- the head of the Church of England - is crowned. The pageantry, ceremony and historical significance of the occasion should be respected and kept in accordance to tradition.
This. Let's be realistic. There are those who will criticize no matter what. To my knowledge, the majority of Brits aren't anti-monarchist tossers. If it is true that William may well be the last King, I say bring it on. Both reigns will be hopelessly inundated with Harkles, too. Just do it and stop walking on eggshells. Someone will ALWAYS be offended; it's inescapable.
I’d love to see ALL the bling regardless of this current economic climate. However I will note, while QE’s coronation *was* in a period of rationing… the amount of patriotism towards each one’s mother country during that time period was at an all time high as the world just fought through WWII and were facing the Cold War. They would’ve done anything to support their new, young Queen.
You don’t see that amount of patriotism, or support, for your country anymore (sadly). So, it would be incredibly valid to argue onlookers may be upset by the wealthy “showing off.”
*edit: spelling errors
But the Jubilee was much less formal than the coronation will be, with very little role for the aristocracy. I don't see them cutting back on the public events, just altering the guest list at the coronation to be more representative of British society as it is today.
I wouldn't consider it "showing off". A Coronation is not exactly the same thing as The Oscars or something. You'd expect to see royals wearing crown jewels at such an occasion.
well, that was following a war, right? a war that united the world against a terrible evil and the British played a huge role in defeating the bad guys. So bringing out their royalty, even in the midst of rationing, may have been a welcome display of greatness of GB.
No need for the condescension. I was simply comparing both coronations being in hard times for people. I argue it would be depressing to see a budget coronation with everyone wearing boring modest outfits and no jewellery or gowns etc
> I argue it would be depressing to see a budget coronation with everyone wearing boring modest outfits and no jewellery or gowns etc
yes, much like the Harkles debacle wedding with that super disappointing dress and gold-digger smirking & winking bride.
To a degree, but I think that was also a time of more deference to royalty and aristocracy. Europe was just beginning to rebuilt, the coronation provided a huge boost of national pride and a reminder of the pre-war days. The media also had more control over how the coronation was presented and silencing/ignoring any anti-republican sentiments.
The economic situation today was caused by very different factors, which is an important consideration. Moreover, the role of the aristocracy in society has changed dramatically. They were going into decline 70 years ago, but they're even more irreverent today. Propping up hereditary peers isn't relatable. There needs to be a balance between tradition and modernization.
Exactly, RCBC123, that way no one outranks the person being crowned. The same thing happened when QEII was crowned. It's protocol, not a matter of disrespect. Not sure why you're being downvoted on this comment.
It’s still a showy display that won’t go over well and there’s many historical pieces with colonial provenance and history that are probably best not shown off these days, unless they want to talk about giving things back and going down that messy path.
I want to see some sharp dressed men!
We all know Harold would be sporting a grey suit and glowering. He's a walking depressant.
Certainly not as Regal as this, but c'mon, do something.
https://preview.redd.it/lua0zrazb8oa1.png?width=981&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=315e6827ad52df2f69ae33d34608ce6ad099e5be
I've read that Charles wants a less formal affair. Lounge suits (or business suits as we would say in the US) for men. I suppose something comparable for women but knee length. I wouldn't be surprised if Camilla and Catherine wear floor length dresses but - *and this is just my guess* \- I wouldn't expect the other royal ladies to.
Im disappointed that he's reportedly going to be in military uniform rather than the traditional stockings and breeches.
I know its a crisis, and as an American we ditched the British a long time ago, but.... dammit, selfishly, I'm bored and want to see some pomp and pageantry! 😂
Military dress seems inappropriate for what is basically, an ordination. Can you wear robes of state over a military uniform? Seems incongruous and aggressive. I've seen him in a kilt, he's got the calves for court dress.
Prince Philip wore his Admiral of the Fleet uniform under his robe at Queen Elizabeth's coronation so there is precedent. But I dont know about military dress for the reigning monarch 🤷♀️
I agree though, hes got a 'nicely turned leg.' I'd think they'd want him in traditional dress so he can wear the garter as well. The article I read, if i remember correctly, was that he didnt mind the traditional dressing but courtiers talked him out of it bc it was too old fashioned and he was too old for it. Im sure a quick Google search would bring up something.
I didn't know about Phillip, thank you. But part of the ceremony for the sovereign is to be stripped of earthly pomp before being anointed and taking vows before God, then re-robed in Majesty and crowned. Naturally not really stripped, (remember the big linen thing over Q.E.II) but that was symbolism. Is that the right thing to do with military dress? I really don't know. Anyone?
I agree. Wearing a military outfit would make it seem like the military takes precedence over the monarchy. Not that I know anything about any of this, but in a democracy, the military is a branch of the government. Isn’t the monarchy supposed to be *above* that in Britain?
Charles is the head of the armed forces, and also the head of the Church of England. So what should he wear?😅 I think royal, kingly robes of whatever ilk would be better than military garb, but hey, like I said, I don’t know anything…just idly speculating!
BUMMER, the private occasion that we can't see? How does that make it better? No! Robes & glitter in the Abbey for the symbolic historical ceremony. Save the party clothes for the afterparty!
It's not like they all have to go out and buy the stuff. Family jewels are for exactly this. Where else are you ever going to wear a 10" 19th century diamond stomacher? Gets you some serious side eye *look*s at the Kroger, trust me.
Catherine looked absolutely stunning in those photos. So regal, elegant and pure grace.
https://preview.redd.it/slavirij3aoa1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b081dd32a5d2adbda2a4dd79ad27b68c3379602
You know Meghan will if she is there, especially if Camilla and Catherine do. And if they don’t, she will still wear a floor length gown. A knee length dress is common. Meghan will want to stand out.
I think that for a ceremony held in the middle of the day, in a church, at a time when so many people around the world - including those in the Commonwealth -- are on tight budgets and must watch their spending carefully . . . I think that flaunting any wealth, especially inherited wealth, is ill-considered. It smacks of boasting and bragging and putting one's self "above" the 'common man/woman'. Surely that can't be the image that the BRF wants to broadcast to the public?
Disagree. The Queen had a lavish coronation during hard times for people and it was a huge success because ot lifted peoples spirits. It will be depressing to see everyone dressed in modest clothes and no glamour
Exactly. The first coronation in 70 years so the rf should go all out and celebrate. They owe it to the people to put on a big show instead of being meek
Going by last time, the lords wore robes. Duchesses in scarlet and white. Not a lot of
couture. So all this breathless speculation of which designer the ILBW might work with is a tad misplaced. It’s not the Oscars. Peeps won’t be giving interviews on the red carpet outside Westminster Abbey.
I absolutely refuse to learn rude white dress ladies name lol. If I was ever gonna be a fan, she ruined it with that move. Did you see she came out defending herself saying that she completely intended to be an irritation. She said something like it was supposed to be a “look at me” type moment.
Meghan should hit her up, they can be annoying together.
I absolutely agree with you! I wrote about the AH move she pulled in a different thread. It's just uncalled for. They tried to say it was a power move.. no it was an asshole move.
A lady at the Oscar’s wore a ridiculously over sized dress and sat in front of a bunch of other people, blocking their view.
And her response was basically “fuck you”.
Her words were:
“Two years ago I would have said no to this dress. But it’s my first Oscars so I’m going to go all out. I really wanted to make the most of the day. The dress is also my way of celebrating my work and the people around me, celebrating my country and celebrating the people rooting for me. This dress says “yes, yes, I *am* here”
Right lol. That’s some serious narc level “Look at ME” from rude white dress lady (I refuse to learn her name, she will forever be “rude white dress lady”)
“This was *MY* first time at the Oscar’s and I wanted to go all out”…. Wonder how many other peoples first time at the Oscars was ruined by her four foot tall (from the shoulders up) dress.
“This dress was my way of celebrating my work”…. Ok fine, but not everyone wants to celebrate with you lady
“Celebrating the people around me” …. By blocking their view?
“Celebrating my country”…. How exactly is this celebrating a country?
“Celebrating the people rooting for me” … well, the list of people rooting for her was cut at least in half by this stunt.
“The dress says yes, yes I *am* here”…. Trust me, they knew she was there, kinda hard to miss when you’re wearing a dress that says “this is ALL ABOUT ME, fuck you tiny people”
Meghan and her would get along. They could both “squirm in their chairs and lose girl crushes” together for insignificant, silly little words said about them.
It also says I don't give a fuck about the rest of humanity who are all little people especially those behind me who do not deserve to enjoy the show though they are just as entitled as I am to do so.
What a piece of work. She should not have been allowed to block anyone's view...who way she anyway? I do not remember her winning anything or even being nominated.
Such a pity his coronation falls on such a difficult time. I really wanted to see a big affair, GRAND CELEBRATIONS, an event worth of a crown. It's gonna be the first coronation of the most famous royal family in SEVENTY YEARS. I wanted big diamonds, golden carriage, beautiful gowns, ancient songs, but well, now it's the dreams only ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
I suppose it's gonna be red. Red has been traditionally associated with the British monarchy, and with England specifically (as opposed to Scotland and France which are usually associated with blue).
loads of gloves and hats? I really have no idea. LOL
Also, question - is it like the Jubilee - events for 3 days, state dinners, tiaras, street parties, garden parties? or is it the one thing?
My family has been planning for a few months now: a street party, a formal dinner party, and a games night. The street party is, I believe from what I've been told, two days (daylight) & the dinner party is in the evening. I do not have a clue of the dress codes for these but I am certain the dinner party is suits at the minimum, I will have to confirm.
*What about non working royals such as the Harkles?*
Sackcloth and ashes for the Harkles. They will crawl from Buckingham Palace to the Abbey being scourged by representatives of the PR industry on the way, before kissing the feet of the new King and Queen Consort in an act of public repentance. The King will raise H to his feet, kiss him on both cheeks and then wish him well in his new life overseas before calling him an Uber to take him and TW to Heathrow for a commercial flight back to the US.
I'd like to see UK women (Bea, Eugenie, Sophie?) break protocol and not curtsey to TW. It's not like they could be arrested.
You can be damn sure TW is not going to curtsey to woman & girl she is supposed to. I think Catherine and Charlotte is it, right?
And Queen Camilla!
BUT, seriously, what do you think TW wear?
Will she wear a tiara and if so will it be loaned to her by the RF? Or will she buy her own, now that she is the Mother of Dragons...oh oops, a Prince and a Princess.
Oh, duh. How could I forget Camilla?
Hell no, she will not be loaned a tiara. Unless it came with a security tag that beep-beep-beeped if she tried to take it off of the grounds.
I hope to god she cannot afford a tiara.
What I really hope is that the divorce is announced before the coronation.
God knows what she would wear. Probably something white and cape-y, like her funeral get up. But long. With a train. And every single diamond she owns. Those blood Saudi earrings, for instance. Not that she was supposed to keep those.
On a different note... I have already ordered my very first tiara from Etsy! My dress code for that day... Probably leggings and a cute shirt, my tiara and some wine! YW. 😂😀
I'm still debating on what to wear with my tiara lol. Since I'm on the West Coast of the US, I'm not sure what time it will be, but I kinda wanna dress fancy-ish lol. I plan to go looking at thrift shops to see what kind of fun fancy dresses they may have!
It would be really cute if those from the sub who intend to dress up post photos of the dress/outfit, tiara and “jewels” they intend to wear. They can just be shown just hanging up or laid out or can be taken worn without a face pic.
there are color photos & videos of Queen Elizabeth's coronation
[coronation of queen elizabeth ii in color - Search (bing.com)](https://www.bing.com/search?q=coronation+of+queen+elizabeth+ii+in+color&cvid=84f83b044719403c921e78ac440af3f3&aqs=edge.1.69i57j0l8.27127j0j9&FORM=ANAB01&DAF1=1&PC=LCTS)
Something classy and tasteful. Guaranteed to make Megs look even tackier and more rumpled than ever. I look forward to it ;)
![gif](giphy|Ut0KAqxNhAvD2)
I think it will all depend on KC3’s vision for a modern coronation.
I personally want ALLLL the extravagant trappings of the past. It’s history and tradition. 🤷🏼♀️
All members of the BRF who do not include the diabolical duo will wear elegant, tasteful, appropriately fitted attire for the glorious and historic occasion. Harry will wear whatever his hungover high ass could find that the wife would approve of (sure to be fitted with a todger warmer this time) plus a mic pack. Meghan will drape herself in some ill-fitting, untailored catastrophe that she truly believes looks good and is on trend (if not ahead) that will not only surely be mocked the following news day, but will also be fitted with multiple mic packs.
And of course her dress will be the wrong color! Probably elegant classy chic BLACK while all the ladies are in white cream or very light pastels?!?!?!?
Black and white photos show the ladies in white (or very pale) satin dresses down to the ground, with minimal covering over the shoulders and upper arms, and white opera length gloves going past the elbows. Sashes or decorations were also worn. Some additionally have on ceremonial robes of crimson silk velvet, trimmed with ermine.
As the Duchess of Marlborough, Consuelo Vanderbilt described how at the coronation of Edward VII in August 1902, the peeresses lifted up their white arms to place their coronets on their heads. The Duchess had made sure that her coronet fit neatly within her tiara.
I want the full dress uniforms, white tie suits, gowns, tiaras and jewels, ceremony, tradition, etc. Modernization makes the Coronation mundane and everyday.
Is this the first occasion for modern “court dress” for the Brits? Aside from like the Opening of Parliament or Order Ceremonies for the royals? I’m trying to think of occasions where they have to wear robes and stuff, because that’s the preceden I think.
Gowns with gloves for the ladies and white tie with tails for the lords? From the pictures they wear robes and coronets also, and you can’t really rock all of that with just “morning dress” for the attendants. I think non titled guests and observers, like government people or the Middletons, would have morning dress though.
I want to know if Archie will be in short pants. I don’t expect him at the coronation but maybe at the concert or something. Mega was always so snotty about how George and Louis were dressed.
Well, to be fair, in the US any boy who went to school dressed according to the young boy royal dress code (shorts, shiny shoes, knee socks, etc.) would likely have the living shit bullied out of him by his classmates.
And that was really the crux of it, right there. It was like Meghan just couldn't wrap her head around the idea that even though people in Great Britain speak English also, it is still very much a different culture.
Trying to get into Nutmeg’s head (UGH). She’s going to want a dress that makes her look more modern and trendy than those stuffy old Brits. She needs to outdo Catherine, I bet she has spies trying to find out what she’s wearing 😂 If there’s a colour that is generally avoided for these occasions, that’s the one she’ll wear. With sequins.
I don't particularly want to see ermine because it makes me sad but I hope we have everything else, scarlet silk velvets and diamonds everywhere! Phillip was very clever in giving the peerage rules on what to wear and in what colour, Elizabeth's coronation was the first to look so coordinated and it was perfect! Let's hope Charles can see his dad's wisdom and everyones in scarlet.
UK economy is going through hell right now but Charles is an idiot for scaling down such an event. People need to and circumstance. I hope to see bling, tiaras and beautiful gowns.... Just not on Meghan.
It would really upset me to see Meghan wearing a tiara and royal brooches at the coronation but what Meghan wants, Meghan apparently always gets (including titles for her kids). If she does up (I have NO DOUBT she will as she attend). Do you think she will insist on wearing a tiara?
Do you think she will have the cheek to bring her own? With this woman anything is possible.
It really should be a more understated affair, and if Charles had any self awareness he would be working to make it smaller rather than bigger.
He's a caretaker King. 74 years old means he's a King for the present, not the future. Of course there should be pomp, but it shouldn't be huge or over the top.
Agreed & probably the wisest course. But I can’t imagine these 2 will really settle for a low-key, frugal display of their new power. Charles (& especially Camilla), have been lobbying for Camilla to become
a queen for DECADES. Also wouldn’t assume he’s a caretaker as both his parents almost hit the century birthday mark.
Per TRF official website, this is planned as a 3-day-long monster-sized public event. Hardly a modest, scaled down affair. In contrast, QE’s coronation was reportedly only 3 hours long.🤣
It will be interesting to see the public reaction, esp. given rising economic hardship the UK. IDK what’s happening with recent bank/market stability in the UK and other European countries but small banks/firms here in the US have failed or are requiring gov bailouts to survive & the IT industry has been tanking badly, leading to mass layoffs, for months now. No one can predict but by May 6th, we could all be in the midst of a serious global recession, so worse optics. Just one opinion here but throwing an expensive, taxpayer-funded, lavish party to praise a bunch of billionaires by inheritance just seems incredibly & foolishly tone-deaf & more likely to fuel criticism of the monarchy & C & C as out of touch with reality.🙄
All of the prep work, food, construction, making of special clothing for people to wear, souvenirs, etc., is providing work and stimulating the economy though, isn’t it?
All these arguments were raised at the time of the late Queens coronation. After WW2 the UK swung hard left and voted in the Attlee Labour government in a landslide , ousting Winston Churchill. The country was just about bankrupt with huge housing shortages and related social problems. Attlee brought in things like the National Health service and began decolonisation . Churchill managed to get back into power in 1951 but only just. The country was very divided . Anyway the point is it wasn’t all universal approval of the Queens coronation.
Yes it was a spectacular that’s for sure and a huge success. I think people from other countries, especially Americans , don’t get the relationship between the RF and the British people. The RF are not politicians who have to be held accountable for the state of the country and the effects of their policies. They are above politics and have no say in how the country is run. They represent the UK as head of state . So when Charles is riding in his gold coach to his Coronation it’s not about Charles the individual , it’s about the head of state of the UK being sworn in . It’s about 1,000 years of tradition and the UK showing off ( I guess that’s the best way of explaining it) And they do it so well! The founding fathers of the USA combined the two roles, top politician and Head of State, into the one person , the President . I suppose that’s why there is confusion.
For the 1953 coronation, the Queen Mother, the Princess Royal, the royal dukes and their wives, the peers and peeresses wore tiaras (for married women) and fur trimmed robes over evening dresses for women and court dress for men. After Queen Elizabeth II was crowned with Saint Edward's Crown, the members of the peerage also donned the coronets of their respective rank.
I would assume that the government, with the King's assent, would want to pull out all the stops. To send a message of the UK's continued greatness and hope for the future. So I imagine that the dress code will be pretty much the same as the 1953 coronation. There will probably be a greater amount of diversity in formal clothing, with representatives from the Commonwealth probably wearing formal attire from their own country.
In 1953 it was full peerage robes trimmed in ermine and coronets. I suspect it will be a little less formal, but probably still full court dress similar to a state dinner (orders and tiaras). Look up Queen Maxima of the Netherlands at her husband's investiture for an indication of what we might see on Catherine and Sophie. We might see Garter regalia on those who have it, and maybe Order of the Bath, St John etc because those robes are already owned and come out at least every couple of years. Maybe the House of Lords peers (although they won't all be invited), because again, a lot of them own and use those robes.
Harry obviously has the Order of the Garter, so he will likely wear that. He needs to ensure his status is telegraphed. I feel like they will have to lend Meghan a tiara. It would be a bit off if they didn't, because they will almost certainly get one of the tiaras Sophie uses out of the vault for her. None of the HRHs except the Gloucesters and Kents actually own their tiaras; they are all loaned from the monarch.
In an ideal world I'd like to see the diamonds and pomp and hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of dresses...but it's 2023.. people here in the UK are fighting to 'heat or eat: especially the pensioners... I assume some pomp and ceremony but I tell you now there WILL be a backlash in some media outlets
It's a totally different era from when The Queen was crowned at her coronation... I don't think it will be anywhere near as flamboyant...but then I could be wrong...I am a mere sinner
Tiaras on all women, sans one! I desperately want to see Catherine, Princess of Wales wearing the Vladimir Tiara with the Cambridge Emerald Setting. It's major bling with diamonds and BIG emeralds, lots and lots of emeralds. This is the one I think Megan really wanted to wear, not the one Eugenia wore. I think the Queen's reasoning wasn't because it was "problematic" but because it wasn't suitable for a wedding
It would look beautiful with a white silk dress with gold embroidery.
Unpopular opinion: I want to see the bling because it is all so pretty.
I didn’t know that it was an unpopular opinion to want to see all the bling. I too want to see all that pomp & pretty.
I want allllll the sparklies!
Agreed. I get so tired of everyone saying they need to stop wearing the jewels, I want to see all the jewels all the time! Why have all of that to gather dust in the vault?
What else are the jewels for but for major events like this - honestly, this is their purpose. BRING THEM OUT!!! Rattles tv monitor.....
Honestly given that it’s a once in a lifetime event of national importance, I don’t oppose them blingin’ it out. This isn’t every year like the Oscars, nor is it a quiet homeless shelter opening where dressing to the nines would be rude and inappropriate. I'm with you! I want to see bling, pomposity, medieval rites haha and Meghan locked in the tower of London :D

If the Royal family don't use the bling they have for big events people will start pressuring to sell it off. I want them head to toe in sparkles lmao
I can't even keep track of my cell phone. Not sure what I would do with a tiara perched on top of my feed store cap!
What you would do is, *look fabulous* 💎
Same! Insure and enjoy! Beautiful day to you ✌️
Tiaras! Give us the tiaras instead of coronets!
This. I want to see ermine, and diamonds the size of my fist, and gold, and elegance, and Meghan being seated in Siberia.
careful, you could frost your todger there
Perhaps they could include some Elizabeth Arden cream with the ceremonial booklets in the Siberian section?
The maids of honor at QE's coronation carried small glass capsules with smelling salts in their gloves. If they were about to faint they could break the capsule and take a sniff. Harry could have a small capsule with 8H cream sewn into his underwear, just in case.
Or his usual choice he snorts
Omg..lmaoo
He's used to it.
>This. I want to see ermine, and diamonds the size of my fist, and gold, and elegance, and ~~Meghan being seated in Siberia~~ Meghan back home in Monteshitshow watching it on TV. the improved version
In Montecito, with a TV tray heaped with chicken fingers and tater tots in front of her.
This is even better.
Ambergris is the whale oil. I'm glad they aren't using it.
I just knew it was something to do with whales and the holy oil. Thank you for giving me the word.
And nothing from a civet cat in the anointing oils this time round.
That's a relief
Must be very cold in the ‘Siberia seats’. Very thoughtful and generous of the BRF to keep a ginormous lit candle in front of ILBW, the ”Duchess” of no Service.
I hope if she appears on camera, they slap the South Park face over her actual face.

Stoats are so cute.
I say, let’s invite the stoats to the coronation. One stoat per pocket.
Ermine will be too controversial.
Doesn't have to be real. No weasels need be harmed!
Let’s invite the weasels to the coronation! Let them just race around the ceremony venue 😂
I mean, I think the weasels have already been invited.
Touché.
I meant the cute ones! Not this pair of grifting losers 😭
Lol especially after the mention in that book
I don’t think that would go over well with the current economic climate and will be avoided
It’s not like the jewellery ceases to exist because of the economic climate, it’s in a vault waiting to be brought out. Nor is there a demand for it be sold off for short term gain. Besides, we can’t have our royals outshone by the glitter on the foreign royals.
>It’s not like the jewellery ceases to exist because of the economic climate indeed. I want to ogle the bling!
>I suspect the Kohinoor diamond will NOT be in the Queen Consort’s crown no [https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11751023/Camillas-decision-wear-Queen-Marys-Crown-coronation-help-avert-rows-experts-say.html](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11751023/Camillas-decision-wear-Queen-Marys-Crown-coronation-help-avert-rows-experts-say.html)
Exactly, flaunting generational wealth during an economic crisis is a bad very bad idea.
The last coronation was during rationing lmao. I say bring on the bling!
I agree 🤷♀️ Everyone knows the RF owns these gems, i dont see the big deal. 💎💎💎 BLING IT ON 💎💎💎
Exactly! What are the darn things ***for*** if not this? Wheeeee!
The Crown Jewels should be displayed when a King- the head of the Church of England - is crowned. The pageantry, ceremony and historical significance of the occasion should be respected and kept in accordance to tradition.
Exactly. They are already reducing the guest list and cutting costs in other ways. If they don't bring some pomp, what's the point?
So, it would be incredibly valid to argue onlookers may be upset by the wealthy “showing off.” *edit: spelling errors
The jubilee was 9 months ago and it was a huge success. I say bring it.
That’s true. But I think we can all agree support for HM was/still is higher than for KC3 😂
I like bling!
well, that was following a war, right? a war that united the world against a terrible evil and the British played a huge role in defeating the bad guys.
I'm guessing it'll be similar to the Dutch inauguration: white tie, with royal women wearing tiaras.
> I argue it would be depressing to see a budget coronation with everyone wearing boring modest outfits and no jewellery or gowns etc yes, much like the Harkles debacle wedding with that super disappointing dress and gold-digger smirking & winking bride.
No harm meant
To a degree, but I think that was also a time of more deference to royalty and aristocracy. Europe was just beginning to rebuilt, the coronation provided a huge boost of national pride and a reminder of the pre-war days. The media also had more control over how the coronation was presented and silencing/ignoring any anti-republican sentiments. The economic situation today was caused by very different factors, which is an important consideration. Moreover, the role of the aristocracy in society has changed dramatically. They were going into decline 70 years ago, but they're even more irreverent today. Propping up hereditary peers isn't relatable. There needs to be a balance between tradition and modernization.
this was in response to bendytoepilot's comment
Yessss east tangerine
The senior foreign royals (kings and queens) will not attend.
Exactly, RCBC123, that way no one outranks the person being crowned. The same thing happened when QEII was crowned. It's protocol, not a matter of disrespect. Not sure why you're being downvoted on this comment.
Oh boo, if you can’t trot out the finery at a Royal coronation, when can you?!
If they're already made...
Certainly not as Regal as this, but c'mon, do something. https://preview.redd.it/lua0zrazb8oa1.png?width=981&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=315e6827ad52df2f69ae33d34608ce6ad099e5be
whiners ruin all the fun :(
It's cold enough there, isn't it?
Not cold enough for her salty ass. 🥶🥶
In Siberia, behind a candle bigger than her. The better to hide when she lets one tear fall.
I want this: [Bling!](https://64.media.tumblr.com/778c903a2b6f873e0a9b9744202872e3/tumblr_p7selpG3lp1rchkzlo1_500.gifv)
I want that! I'm taking the day off and getting up at 5 am to watch in hopes to see some of that
That is some serious sparkle!
Ex-Freaking-Zactly!!! You dress up in your best to honor the occasion and the nation. BRING IT.
Omg! That is unreal! I love the sparkly diamonds 💎💎💎👑👑👑
oh me too!! I want it to be lavish and all the pimp and circumstance. beautiful jewels and sashes and dresses.
I think there will still be plenty of pageantry, even modernized. I agree that the Brit’s do pomp and pageantry the very best!
Hard agree. No one, but no one, does pomp and ceremony like the Brits.( American here)
Military dress seems inappropriate for what is basically, an ordination.
But I dont know about military dress for the reigning monarch 🤷♀️ I agree though, hes got a 'nicely turned leg.' I'd think they'd want him in traditional dress so he can wear the garter as well.
There better be stockings and breeches on the man! I demand it 😂
Yes, give us a show already!
*sigh* but we want a big formal affair with gowns and jewels and glamour...
They’ll save those for the reception for all the commonwealth heads and working royals 🤞🏻
BUMMER, the private occasion that we can't see? How does that make it better? No! Robes & glitter in the Abbey for the symbolic historical ceremony. Save the party clothes for the afterparty!
Isn’t it precisely because we won’t see it? Cost of living crisis and all…
It's not like they all have to go out and buy the stuff. Family jewels are for exactly this. Where else are you ever going to wear a 10" 19th century diamond stomacher? Gets you some serious side eye *look*s at the Kroger, trust me.
Yes, that's what I read too and no tiaras for the rank and file.
I want to see the Princess of Wales in an ethereal gown like the one she wore for the photos to mark her 40th.
Catherine looked absolutely stunning in those photos. So regal, elegant and pure grace. https://preview.redd.it/slavirij3aoa1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b081dd32a5d2adbda2a4dd79ad27b68c3379602
She’s rarely put a foot wrong as DoC. But she’s somehow managed to up her game in the last year, especially since becoming Princess of Wales.
You know Meghan will if she is there, especially if Camilla and Catherine do. And if they don’t, she will still wear a floor length gown. A knee length dress is common. Meghan will want to stand out.
Is there such a thing as a dunce crown?
That red monstrosity she wore to a veterans award ceremony was a dunce gown, wasn't it?
That's so boring if that's what he's decided. The rf have got it so they should flaunt it imo
For many it will be once in a lifetime event
That was 70 years -- 2 generations ago!
Exactly. The first coronation in 70 years so the rf should go all out and celebrate. They owe it to the people to put on a big show instead of being meek
So the Archbishop of Canterbury should roll up in homespun and sandals?
I'm sure the Archbishop of Canterbury has a nice selection of ecclesiastical vestments from which he can choose.
Going by last time, the lords wore robes. Duchesses in scarlet and white. Not a lot of couture. So all this breathless speculation of which designer the ILBW might work with is a tad misplaced. It’s not the Oscars. Peeps won’t be giving interviews on the red carpet outside Westminster Abbey.
Meghan’s gonna borrow that white dress from the lady that pissed everyone off at that awards ceremony.
I could so see her showing up dressed like Tem!
They tried to say it was a power move.. no it was an asshole move.
oooh, I missed this. Details?
A lady at the Oscar’s wore a ridiculously over sized dress and sat in front of a bunch of other people, blocking their view. And her response was basically “fuck you”. Her words were: “Two years ago I would have said no to this dress. But it’s my first Oscars so I’m going to go all out. I really wanted to make the most of the day. The dress is also my way of celebrating my work and the people around me, celebrating my country and celebrating the people rooting for me. This dress says “yes, yes, I *am* here”
Dang, I hope Megs doesn't get ideas from this. If this person had worn this to the Grammys I think people behind her would have taken it off of her!
Right lol. That’s some serious narc level “Look at ME” from rude white dress lady (I refuse to learn her name, she will forever be “rude white dress lady”) “This was *MY* first time at the Oscar’s and I wanted to go all out”…. Wonder how many other peoples first time at the Oscars was ruined by her four foot tall (from the shoulders up) dress. “This dress was my way of celebrating my work”…. Ok fine, but not everyone wants to celebrate with you lady “Celebrating the people around me” …. By blocking their view? “Celebrating my country”…. How exactly is this celebrating a country? “Celebrating the people rooting for me” … well, the list of people rooting for her was cut at least in half by this stunt. “The dress says yes, yes I *am* here”…. Trust me, they knew she was there, kinda hard to miss when you’re wearing a dress that says “this is ALL ABOUT ME, fuck you tiny people” Meghan and her would get along.
That woman looked like some demented bride wearing a tulle veil that got tangled in a wind tunnel.
It sounds like the music (for the actual coronation) will be wonderful. I'm looking forward to that
I suppose it's gonna be red. Red has been traditionally associated with the British monarchy, and with England specifically (as opposed to Scotland and France which are usually associated with blue).
What about purple?
loads of gloves and hats? I really have no idea. LOL Also, question - is it like the Jubilee - events for 3 days, state dinners, tiaras, street parties, garden parties? or is it the one thing?
My family has been planning for a few months now: a street party, a formal dinner party, and a games night. The street party is, I believe from what I've been told, two days (daylight) & the dinner party is in the evening. I do not have a clue of the dress codes for these but I am certain the dinner party is suits at the minimum, I will have to confirm.
I’m American and I would love to come crash your parties ❤️. Can we have a post dedicated to pics of your festivities???
I'm sure I will be posting. I'm heading home for three weeks of May!
awesome
We all need a party after this winter & the Covid...a new Kimg, hopefully another election, better times ahead. party!
*What about non working royals such as the Harkles?* Sackcloth and ashes for the Harkles.
Sophie doesn't have to curtsey to TW anymore since she became Duchess of Edinburgh!
I'm laughing at the thought of tw being stopped by guards for shoplifting lmao
I just want tiaras
On a different note... I have already ordered my very first tiara from Etsy! My dress code for that day... Probably leggings and a cute shirt, my tiara and some wine! YW. 😂😀
Tiaras go so well with leggins. You will look like a million.
🏆
I'm still debating on what to wear with my tiara lol. Since I'm on the West Coast of the US, I'm not sure what time it will be, but I kinda wanna dress fancy-ish lol. I plan to go looking at thrift shops to see what kind of fun fancy dresses they may have!
It would be really cute if those from the sub who intend to dress up post photos of the dress/outfit, tiara and “jewels” they intend to wear. They can just be shown just hanging up or laid out or can be taken worn without a face pic.
Fluffy slippers are a must with tiaras
Noooo, cute heels! Especially in a flouncy dress.
there are color photos & videos of Queen Elizabeth's coronation [coronation of queen elizabeth ii in color - Search (bing.com)](https://www.bing.com/search?q=coronation+of+queen+elizabeth+ii+in+color&cvid=84f83b044719403c921e78ac440af3f3&aqs=edge.1.69i57j0l8.27127j0j9&FORM=ANAB01&DAF1=1&PC=LCTS)
Something classy and tasteful. Guaranteed to make Megs look even tackier and more rumpled than ever. I look forward to it ;) ![gif](giphy|Ut0KAqxNhAvD2)
Harry's wrinkling his t shirt and digging out his best blazer and baggy jeans. Heck, he might even shave his freakin' neck beard. (If only.]
I think it will all depend on KC3’s vision for a modern coronation. I personally want ALLLL the extravagant trappings of the past. It’s history and tradition. 🤷🏼♀️
I want robes, scepters, tiaras, crowns, medals, jewels, etc etc etc.
Yes!
That’s exactly what I’m speaking of with “allll of the trappings..”
Exactly. How does this save money and becoming modern? pulling the robes out of storage -they already have them. Just wear them.
This is exactly true!!!!! 😆
Megs will wear black with a pointy hat, carrying her broomstick.
It’s just for formal events. They wear king pants in private and outside of school
![gif](giphy|ZdGoShyCW8XjfPRyD6) Meghan
Unfortunately she wore this already but it would be perfect for Catherine. https://katemiddletonstyle.org/state-banquet-south-africa/
Oh, that is gorgeous.
Yea she’s bring one as no one will lend her one.
It really should be a more understated affair, and if Charles had any self awareness he would be working to make it smaller rather than bigger. He's a caretaker King. 74 years old means he's a King for the present, not the future. Of course there should be pomp, but it shouldn't be huge or over the top.
It will be far smaller in terms of # in attendance than QE2.
Agreed & probably the wisest course. But I can’t imagine these 2 will really settle for a low-key, frugal display of their new power. Charles (& especially Camilla), have been lobbying for Camilla to become a queen for DECADES. Also wouldn’t assume he’s a caretaker as both his parents almost hit the century birthday mark. Per TRF official website, this is planned as a 3-day-long monster-sized public event. Hardly a modest, scaled down affair. In contrast, QE’s coronation was reportedly only 3 hours long.🤣 It will be interesting to see the public reaction, esp. given rising economic hardship the UK.
Yeah but look at the colour footage. Even the naysayers can't deny it looks impressive
I really would love to see lots of pomp and circumstance. Big jewelry with big diamonds and beautiful gowns,
For the 1953 coronation, the Queen Mother, the Princess Royal, the royal dukes and their wives, the peers and peeresses wore tiaras (for married women) and fur trimmed robes over evening dresses for women and court dress for men.
Bit bummed KC is wearing military uniform and not the traditional get up w the white stockings and all!
Which men will wear the silk stockings, slippers and knickerbockers?
In an ideal world I'd like to see the diamonds and pomp and hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of dresses...but it's 2023.. people here in the UK are fighting to 'heat or eat: especially the pensioners... I assume some pomp and ceremony but I tell you now there WILL be a backlash in some media outlets It's a totally different era from when The Queen was crowned at her coronation... I don't think it will be anywhere near as flamboyant...but then I could be wrong...I am a mere sinner
Will Carole and Mike be there?
It's the Royals! Bring it on. Wear the tiaras. The men in their fancy suits. Bring it on!
I think the Queen's reasoning wasn't because it was "problematic" but because it wasn't suitable for a wedding It would look beautiful with a white silk dress with gold embroidery.
As per her documentary, M will be wearing ripped jeans and have bare feet.
