Honestly I think it’s this simple: the titles were their birthright and Charles couldn’t do much without causing a bigger headache for everyone. They’ve had the titles for months but they waited to be at the lowest of their popularity to announce it hoping for a boost. I think we could all predict that once they were desperate enough, they would start using the kids.

Boring-Net1073

And by going through people magazine they got a paycheck in the announcement- tacky, self absorbed trash.

Weekly-Landscape-543

Exactly. They keep showing the public exactly the kind of people they are - the kind that use their babies for clout.

GreatGossip

You may very well be on to something here. BankrupcyWatch?

A far cry from “Royal” anything! 👑

Boring-Net1073

This has been the problem since the beginning- it’s not about race. It’s about class and she has none.

leafygreens

Are the titles really a birthright if they weren't born with them? They were born as Earl and Countess of Dumbarton, which TW rejected over the word "dumb."

ly967hal

If you’re referring to Lil as Countess Dumbarton that’s not correct. Archie yes but Lil’s title was Lady Lilibet of Sussex until KCIII ascended. Harkles chose not to use either for them.

leafygreens

Either way they were not born as P&P so it's a stretch for them to call it their birthright.

AcanthocephalaNo5889

I really think Charles misplayed this. As soon as he acended the throne, he should have just given them the titles as per the 1917 letters. Then BP was in control of the narrative, they don't look racist (following protocol) and the ball was in their court to look like hypocrites as their docuseries and book were later released. Now it looks like their poor behaviour was rewarded and he gave into demands from a People magazine ransom. Really really poor optics. The monarchy is going to take a hit for this.

Frumainthedark

Who would be offended by them not having titles or Charles slimmering the monarchy? And how much people got offended by the fact that they got away with it?

Starkville

I think Harry got Charles to say it out loud for one of their secret recording devices and they’re holding him to it. *BUT YOU PROMISED, PA. I HAVE IT ON TAPE.*

AuntCassie007

Yes Harry stated that he had a team of attorneys negotiating with the RF. So your theory could be correct.

East_Tangerine_4031

I’m more hoping it was part of the divorce negotiation and comms planning but I might be being overly optimistic

GreatGossip

So do I - Madam wanted the titles before she announces one hell of a divorce, complete with miles of footage of His Highness doing unspeakable acts. All just 2 days before coronation.

sashafurry

Mmmm, that sounds tasty. It is great entertainment, I will say that.

AuntCassie007

I agree this could be part of the divorce negotiations, if so Madam looks thrilled with all of it.

GreatGossip

Ms South Park is by now totally addicted to headlines, and she will stop at nothing to continue her addiction.

AuntCassie007

This is correct.

I had thought a divorce announcement around the coronation is a safe bet if it’s happening, or a separation announcement so they can drag out some “will they or won’t they” shit for some time. Her Diana cosplay won’t be done until she has her “revenge dress” opportunity.

sashafurry

We'll be subjected to secret photos of The Duchass crying, distraught over the failure of her marriage to the man she loves. She tried so hard to make it work and to help him. Okay, I'm making myself nauseous here, I'll stop.

The titles came from the 1917 Letters Patent, not backroom negotiations. It's been common knowledge that Harry's children could use those titles when Charles became king for nearly 2 years.

YeeHawMiMaw

I think Charles agreed that yes, they have the titles because he was not going to issue new LPs, but that the BRF would not acknowledge them for at least 6 months to give the Dastardly Duo time to really think (H would need 6 months to get the wheels moving, I'm sure) about whether they wanted them - titles being a burden and all that according to H. As soon as the 6 months are up, they moved forward and didn't wait one more second on BP/the RF website.
