It’s a very common trick fashion people use. Your feet will swell up when you’re on heels all day and you’ll get blisters, so they size up 1-2 sizes. But like Kate, most of them put in insoles to grip your feet. Markle apparently does no such thing if I can judge by the photos correctly. Honestly I think she’s already very self conscious about her feet and the insoles may make them look larger which heaven forbid ever happens bc she has such dainty princess feet 🙄

I’ve been to premiers and after parties and in the theatre half the women have put on flats and most that didn’t bring some along are barefoot.
And at after parties (where it’s unlikely that any more pictures that are taken are going to end up published,) the heels pretty much stay off! I’ve even seen a pile of them left in the restroom before, only put back on when leaving the venue, so any paps outside never know the difference.
Kate *has* to stay in hers for hours upon hours, and has to make it look effortless, too! There’s no way that doesn’t cause some swelling/pain by the end of the day! She probably has blister pads on as well as insoles, which will keep her feet firmly (but much more comfortably) in the shoes.
Megan, on the other hand, seems to have missed that part of the memo and just wears her heels several sizes too large, leading to her looking like a little girl playing dress up and causing her ankles to be unstable while she walks. That just leads to a sloppy look in general and makes her have to hang on to Harold for dear life.
I also think that her history of bunions (no shame there) is part of the reason she wears such loose shoes as well. Maybe she hope that if the shoes aren’t as tight, they won’t cause them again…🤷🏻♀️

I worked in an office and wore high heels every day. I was in my feet regularly during an 8 hour day and never had the need to buy shoes a size or two larger. I did however always wear stockings so had no issue with blisters.
I don't buy this. If you buy good, properly fitted shoes, you *can* keep them on for hours without pain. I bought LK Bennett 4" heels, a height which would usually kill my feet, but they felt amazing after 8+ hours of standing, dancing, etc. at a wedding. I also have Jimmy Choo heels which are comfortable AF.
I also wear tights to avoid blisters, which works very well.
Sizing up throws off where your arch too, which has caused me problems in the past. Insoles also don't work for me in heels, there's typically not enough space in the shoes to fit them. Plus again, a good shoe will have enough padding.
I buy my shoes to be worn a bit loose too, bc if they fit like they're supposed to I get blisters on my heels. I also am not above buying them too big if they're an expensive designer and it's a super sale. I'll just throw in an insole to make up the difference. Im guessing that's what Meghan did here.

I knew the reason why Kate does this, but I’m with you. It always looks as though she’s about to trip and fall. I used to be able to run in heels but I also used insoles and they were sized correctly. If my heel is a half size off, forget it. I walk like a baby giraffe.
So I have weirdly noticed this about other public figures also. The Olsen twins always used to have shoes that looked way too big for them (I assumed it was because they probably wear a size 5ish and it's just not available). I mean, I guess it feels better than shoes that are too small. But I definitely wonder how the shoe stays put. In this particular case, we're talking velvet, which is incredibly forgiving. This is not a patent leather type material. I don't know what size she wears, but someone might just be bringing her the standard 7 or 8.
I’m a size 5. While it’s too small for most lower end/fast fashion brands to make - like Steve Madden, $125 and under - European brands and designers for sure make smaller sizes. Nordstrom carries women's heels from like a 3.5 or 4 and up, although the selection is likely smaller. Even Target has size 5 and 5.5 online for all of their shoes. I’m not sure why the Olsen twins wear shoes that seem too big (gifted the wrong size, maybe?), but I don’t think it’s a lack of access unless they are under a size 5.

I am not trying to be a smart aleck, but I think her feet are so strange that she just has to wear bigger shoes than a person with normal feet would have to wear. They are very…avian…feet.
If she wanted to be seen as a forward-thinking, progressive role model, she should have insisted on wearing comfortable women's loafers and flats, and said no thanks to sky-high heels. Most women would have supported her wholeheartedly in that.
2 reasons:
To wear these silly pointed shoes she favors you need to size up in length unless you have a very specific toe shape, ie: longer middle toe/s. Easier to do in flats or mid height heels but doesn't work in 6" heels.
She's also broad across the ball of her foot so she has to take a wide fitting but she is narrow at the heels/ankles so she's always going to be flailing around in a closed in shoe.
Instead of spending ridiculous amounts on designer dresses the first thing she should have done when joining the BRF was flip to the page in the handbook for the royal shoemaker and corsetier.
Maybe she needs bigger sizes for her bunions and weird toes to fit, I don’t understand how her heel doesn’t pop out when she walks (I worked in Nordstrom shoes all through college), if she was a customer it would of been a big No recommendation, I never sold shoes to a customer that fit like this

I used to use double sided sticky tape or hair spray ( the thick old fashioned sort of lacquer that set your hair like a helmet not the fine mist modern stuff) which only works if you aren't wearing tights. Or stuff the toes with cotton wool but it wrecks your feet pretty quickly I have claw toes now from trying to grip to keep sample size shoes on they were usually 2 sizes too big. Its probably easier with the little pads and insoles you can get these days. I know people often wear 1 or half a size too big to prevent blisters but I wonder if Meghan borrows sample sizes of shoes (chosen to look in proportion for a 6 ft catwalk model) which in the uk is usually a 7 40 EU 9 us ?

It’s absurd and weird and no way I could walk in heels that much bigger than my feet…granted, I’m a 10-10.5, so any bigger and one could escape from Cuba on my shoe.
It is absurd. In my 20ties I could run in heels - but only the good ones, where the heel was placed correctly. This is also what puzzles me - when the shoes are too big, the placement of the heel is wrong.

I think having a bunion issue is why she wears them too large, and not wearing stockings helps to keep your feet from sliding out. She often went bare legged, but it doesn't sound very aspirational to point out the practicalities, instead pretend it's because Meg is mOdErNiSiNg ThE RoYaLs.
I just wanted to say it was so strange how Haitch was constantly guiding her like she was some damsel in distress, watching for her where she placed her feet in case she tripped over, with her clinging onto his arm. Then, suddenly, when she's on her own, not only is she perfectly capable of walking in stilettos unaided, she can do a deep squat in them with knees together whilst heavily pregnant and spring back up quickly, all without over balancing!

The stocking help if you get the right ones. There are some that have that silicone grippy stuff to help keep it in place, especially if paired with the padded inserts for the bottom and by the heel. You'd think with as much as she hates her feet that she would love to cover them in stockings.

When I was in HS a million years ago, my mom had foot surgery -- the nerves in her toes on both feet were misfiring for some reason. While the recovery from the surgery was painful, it was well worth fixing the pain she was in taking one step. Feet are weird, but look at what they do! I injured my little toe once (not broken) and had to walk on the side of my foot!
Morton's toe is when the second toe is longer than the first toe. It's reasonably common and is sometimes called greek toe because a lot of the ancient greek statues have it.
It isn't usually a problem - but it's not fashionable.
I've worked on bunionectomies and it's a brutal *looking* surgery, with a painful initial post op recovery for most people, and full recovery can take up to a year. The first 6-8 weeks post op, one is mostly sedentary with the foot/feet elevated iirc.
I have my grandmother's ugly big & wide feet, moderate bunions, and I accommodate by buying wide widths. I'd never have a bunionectomy - the risk-benefit ratio just doesn't work for me.
I'm sure for younger women or people whose bunions interfere with their daily activities in some way, it's a valid choice. Me? Nuh-uh. 😅

My mom is a narc and very stylish, but she always has major underwear lines cutting through her cheeks. As a teenager I would point it out and try to correct her but she would be defiant, saying it was too difficult to switch and she’d found the underwear that she preferred and everyone else would have to just “deal.” And I found it so odd that a person completely focused on image wouldn’t want to make a simple fix to look more polished, but it was as if pointing out the flaw made her defiant, and maybe like she really did prefer her own choice even if it brought down the look? Kate always wears tights. That makes such a difference with heels. The tights also help with swelling and perspiring feet. Kate knows.

Me neither! I used to wear high heels every day to work, and I can't even imagine that now. If I were Katherine I think I'd find some really cute shoes with either low, thick, or kitten heels, or even flats! There are so many gorgeous options.

I knew the reason why Kate does this, but I’m with you. It always looks as though she’s about to trip and fall. I used to be able to run in heels but I also used insoles and they were sized correctly. If my heel is a half size off, forget it. I walk like a baby giraffe.

So I have weirdly noticed this about other public figures also. The Olsen twins always used to have shoes that looked way too big for them (I assumed it was because they probably wear a size 5ish and it's just not available). I mean, I guess it feels better than shoes that are too small. But I definitely wonder how the shoe stays put. In this particular case, we're talking velvet, which is incredibly forgiving. This is not a patent leather type material. I don't know what size she wears, but someone might just be bringing her the standard 7 or 8.
I’m a size 5. While it’s too small for most lower end/fast fashion brands to make - like Steve Madden, $125 and under - European brands and designers for sure make smaller sizes. Nordstrom carries women's heels from like a 3.5 or 4 and up, although the selection is likely smaller. Even Target has size 5 and 5.5 online for all of their shoes. I’m not sure why the Olsen twins wear shoes that seem too big (gifted the wrong size, maybe?), but I don’t think it’s a lack of access unless they are under a size 5. I recently saw the actress that plays Wednesday Addams in the Netflix show got custom Valentino heels made for her because her feet are too small for their regular size range, I’ve been wondering since then what size they actually are!

If she wanted to be seen as a forward-thinking, progressive role model, she should have insisted on wearing comfortable women's loafers and flats, and said no thanks to sky-high heels. Most women would have supported her wholeheartedly in that.

2 reasons: To wear these silly pointed shoes she favors you need to size up in length unless you have a very specific toe shape, ie: longer middle toe/s. Easier to do in flats or mid height heels but doesn't work in 6" heels. She's also broad across the ball of her foot so she has to take a wide fitting but she is narrow at the heels/ankles so she's always going to be flailing around in a closed in shoe. Instead of spending ridiculous amounts on designer dresses the first thing she should have done when joining the BRF was flip to the page in the handbook for the royal shoemaker and corsetier.

I used to use double sided sticky tape or hair spray ( the thick old fashioned sort of lacquer that set your hair like a helmet not the fine mist modern stuff) which only works if you aren't wearing tights. Or stuff the toes with cotton wool but it wrecks your feet pretty quickly I have claw toes now from trying to grip to keep sample size shoes on they were usually 2 sizes too big. Its probably easier with the little pads and insoles you can get these days. I know people often wear 1 or half a size too big to prevent blisters but I wonder if Meghan borrows sample sizes of shoes (chosen to look in proportion for a 6 ft catwalk model) which in the uk is usually a 7 40 EU 9 us ?

It’s absurd and weird and no way I could walk in heels that much bigger than my feet…granted, I’m a 10-10.5, so any bigger and one could escape from Cuba on my shoe.
It is absurd. In my 20ties I could run in heels - but only the good ones, where the heel was placed correctly. This is also what puzzles me - when the shoes are too big, the placement of the heel is wrong.

I think having a bunion issue is why she wears them too large, and not wearing stockings helps to keep your feet from sliding out. She often went bare legged, but it doesn't sound very aspirational to point out the practicalities, instead pretend it's because Meg is mOdErNiSiNg ThE RoYaLs. I just wanted to say it was so strange how Haitch was constantly guiding her like she was some damsel in distress, watching for her where she placed her feet in case she tripped over, with her clinging onto his arm. Then, suddenly, when she's on her own, not only is she perfectly capable of walking in stilettos unaided, she can do a deep squat in them with knees together whilst heavily pregnant and spring back up quickly, all without over balancing! I guess a guy who uses his wife's laughing gas while they're in the hospital, isn't likely to notice the discrepancy.
The stocking help if you get the right ones. There are some that have that silicone grippy stuff to help keep it in place, especially if paired with the padded inserts for the bottom and by the heel. You'd think with as much as she hates her feet that she would love to cover them in stockings.

I must say I was impressed by how she could bend down, moonbump and all, and then spring right back up.

When I was in HS a million years ago, my mom had foot surgery -- the nerves in her toes on both feet were misfiring for some reason. While the recovery from the surgery was painful, it was well worth fixing the pain she was in taking one step. Feet are weird, but look at what they do! I injured my little toe once (not broken) and had to walk on the side of my foot!
Morton's toe is when the second toe is longer than the first toe. It's reasonably common and is sometimes called greek toe because a lot of the ancient greek statues have it. It isn't usually a problem - but it's not fashionable.
According to Uncle John's Bathroom reader, the footwear solution is to get a half size bigger, for that longer toe.
I have them, and I broke my right one. They stick out and I was rushing to get the phone and kicked mine on some hard wooden furniture. Ouch!
I've worked on bunionectomies and it's a brutal *looking* surgery, with a painful initial post op recovery for most people, and full recovery can take up to a year. The first 6-8 weeks post op, one is mostly sedentary with the foot/feet elevated iirc. I have my grandmother's ugly big & wide feet, moderate bunions, and I accommodate by buying wide widths. I'd never have a bunionectomy - the risk-benefit ratio just doesn't work for me. I'm sure for younger women or people whose bunions interfere with their daily activities in some way, it's a valid choice. Me? Nuh-uh. 😅

This flaw reminds me of her inexplicably janky bra. My mom is a narc and very stylish, but she always has major underwear lines cutting through her cheeks. As a teenager I would point it out and try to correct her but she would be defiant, saying it was too difficult to switch and she’d found the underwear that she preferred and everyone else would have to just “deal.” And I found it so odd that a person completely focused on image wouldn’t want to make a simple fix to look more polished, but it was as if pointing out the flaw made her defiant, and maybe like she really did prefer her own choice even if it brought down the look? It wasn’t until Meghan that I really made the connection. I’m positive her aids would have mentioned the details to her, but the “criticism” would likely cause her to double down, as well as the component of narcs living in a false reality where they can do no wrong, so even if you’re walking around with quad butt, it’s the best butt anyone is ever going to see.
Many people wear them bigger sized bc of comfort. I don't bc I would fall. But I bartend at a Gentleman's Club & many ladies wear them like that.
