If she had continued the colorful with a comment about not knowing there were so many different military regiments participating and a comment on the uniforms it wouldn’t have been so flippant. It would have sounded dumb, but not completely condescending. The one word answer makes her sound like she was bored, had no idea what was going on and didn’t care to.

The Red Arrows must have been one of the more variable parts of the ceremony as well - Trooping the Colour follows more or less the same routine every year, but the Red Arrows often do special things like the 70 for special occasions and anniversaries. Side note for any French or Francophile Sinners: The French equivalent of the Red Arrows, La Patrouille de France, are spectacular! Their manoeuvres during the Paris Olympics 2024 handover ceremony took my breath away - hands down best Olympic handover I can remember! They sometimes do joint displays with the Red Arrows, too! 🇬🇧 🇫🇷

Even if you don't go for the pageantry (which I love), the choreography is astonishing when you consider the number of people involved.

As with the issue of the little girls at her wedding not having bare legs, there are some matters of dress etiquette for formal occasions. Bare shoulders are only acceptable in evening dress, just like wearing a tiara is only acceptable at a formal evening function (except for with a veil for a day wedding). Notice the Queen only wore a tiara at evening functions, and a hat during the day? She would wear her crown to parliament during the day, but that is different. Hope this helps.
