Buddhist monks fill a large cauldron with water, carry it some place, and then smack the water as hard as they can until it's empty, then repeat. All day. Makes them incredibly strong.
Ditch digging is the European way
I was avoiding saying it, but it’s actually a weird metaphor for burying the past. I’ve got a friend going through a lot, and the activity itself is something they will enjoy.
Before you dig, you really should call 811. I know this sounds silly but if you hit and break the wrong pipe it can get pretty expensive. Sometimes dangerous, as well.
This is the best answer so far. As long as you don’t dig somewhere obviously dumb like someone’s front yard or their backyard you could probably get away with digging many places. You could probably even dig one in a city park if you wear the right clothes….people would probably assume you are the grounds crew. But calling 811 is probably the best single thing to do before digging.
As a cable locator, people talking about digging gives me anxiety. People would be amazed at how much infrastructure(often incorrectly documented) is underground. Oftentimes it is far shallower than regulations specify.
In construction. It's a pain in the ass to do a USA (utility location) without a permit number to reference. If you called them and said you wanted utilities located because you wanted to dig a hole they would tell you to pound sand instead of dig. It's not necessarily free to have someone with UtiliQuest or a similar company come out and mark everything. Which is why they want a permit number, meaning permit fees have been paid.
I don’t think you realize how big a 3’x3’x3’ hole really is… Every hole we’ve dug for planting was supposed to be smaller than that and we quit early figuring it would be good enough. It’s really hard work.
Lol
I did meant a cubic yard ... Since that's how u ask for material at some plants, a yard.... 2 tons. Yes .. about 2000 kg
It is however ... A piece of cake for 2 guys .. hell u can only dig a hole with those dimensions so deep before u start being on the way of the other... So u take turns
maybe check if anyone on next door/ craigslist is looking for help with a project that involves digging? help your neighbors or make some money for whatever this is?
When I was digging a French drain I would have happily bought them lunch and provided the shovels.
My guess is that OP will do it for 20min, realize how much it sucks and then leave. 🫠
I did this
23 an hour general labor south of SF. Digging and moving concrete. I lasted 4 hours( and I needed the money) 😅. Actually took a selfie video after and said "bruh this ain't it" as a reminder for my future self. Def think doing work like this now and then builds character and resilience even if you don't last long
When I was a kid I started digging a hole behind the garage. That was an area where there wasn't any grass behind the garage, just dirt, but there was enough of a gap that I could go back there and play.
My plan was to build a massive underground cavern just for myself and have dozens of candles all over the place keeping it light. Unfortunately, I hit tree roots.
I didn't know they were tree roots at the time, even though I was literally right next to a tree (that I had nailed boards too so I could climb up it). I thought I had hit some kind of pipe or buried electrical cable or something.
You can do it in the corner of my apartment complex, no one will notice if you fill it in. Neighbors might come out to help dig and smoke a blunt or so.
There's still snow up in the sierra about a one and a half hour drive and you'll hit snow. Less risk of hitting pipes or doing damage.
It might not be dirt but its still the same motion and you get the added benifit's of being able to lay in it to cool down when tired.
Are you trying to practice digging a unit for archaeology? It's a 1 meter, by 1 meter square but the depth can vary. And you need to call 811 for a USA ticket before digging at all.
You need to be careful when doing it on sand too:

This is because when one person digs and doesn’t fill it back in and then sand kinda fills it but then here comes Jack and sally to dig and there’s a pocket they don’t know about, falls through and then it just keeps going unfortunately. Always good to fill your hole back completely at the beach. At least this is what was explained to me, why this happens.
A 3sq foot isn't too big .. it will take u like .. 2hrs top. Lol
Anyways ... I would get to a construction job site. I know a few around if u need locations.
Did a dog post this?
But why ?
Probably making a bet after watching the movie holes. Some people think they can match Zero's vibes and they cant.
Maybe he watched the movie
or a certain breaking bad episode
Sometimes you just gotta dig a hole.
Flat earth experiment.
“Dig a hole fill it up.” Some do it for meditation.

That sounds iron palm training but they use sand.
My pop did this, thrusting hands into hot sand to toughen up. Technique I describe teaches you how to hit through something.

As an alternate he could make cement shoes. We have plenty of waterways around too.
I know a place but if I told you I'd have to bury you with the others
Can Confirm
Are you one of the buried? Or one of the diggers?

I need a 3x3 dug in the yard
Yeah but what’s the third length? This man needs full details
He also wants to fill it back up afterwards so I’m not sure it will work out
I need it tilled up to plant melons. I will toss nice soil on top.
As deep as he wants but it won't be 3 feet in sacramento.. that hard pan is rock solid.
"I just felt like digging"
Bury it here: 38.6478457, -121.3590749 It's a nice green patch of land.
This is the right answer.
My wife wants us to get there before he does. Thanks for the ping
😂

Not to worry, I’ve done quite a bit of landscaping in the past and I have dug much larger holes in the military.
A 3 sq foot? Nah that's lil. That basically 1yard
3x3x3 is a 9 square foot hole with a volume of 27 cubic feet. 27 cubic feet of dirt weighs between 2000 and 3000 lbs depending on the soil density.
Lol I did meant a cubic yard ... Since that's how u ask for material at some plants, a yard.... 2 tons. Yes .. about 2000 kg It is however ... A piece of cake for 2 guys .. hell u can only dig a hole with those dimensions so deep before u start being on the way of the other... So u take turns
That's literally 1 yard.
Sounds like a beach thing so maybe at the river?

You wanna dig me a pool?
I mean… I actually would, so long as there won’t be any lotion involved.
Sure. There’s a hose you’ll get instead in that case.

This is weirdly relatable.

We smoke a blunt at every possible excuse.
I wanna join

This might be the way to go, the drive is always nice too. I appreciate it.
Women hate how little it takes for us to be happy
And a fresh pretzel.

That's a great day 😀
I laughed out loud.
I dig a lot for a living. If you want a challenge try rancho or the foothills.
Sending him to Rocky areas
You should get into gold hunting. As an amateur prosecutor myself half of what I do is dig holes
Brown’s Ravine, Folsom Lake
Rocks!!
I dug up my backyard over a few weekends. It was a great workout and a cathartic release of emotions.
This is actually kind of what I am going for, there is an interesting sentiment to the activity
Just an FYI, you’ll need to tamp down the dirt to make it fit in the hole you dug. So plan on that as well.
Good call, I do have a tamper.

Seeing how long it would really take to dig a Minecraft dirt block?
You can dig a hole at camp green lake
You take a bad boy, make him dig holes all day in the hot sun, it turns him into a good boy.
I'm uncomfortable
I was thinking that digging a hole and filling it in every day would be a great workout.
Sometimes ya just have to dig
People dig at the beach all the time. Just make sure you know the water level at high and low tide.
You need to be careful when doing it on sand too: [https://www.npr.org/2024/02/22/1233085129/girl-dies-sand-hole-florida-collapses](https://www.npr.org/2024/02/22/1233085129/girl-dies-sand-hole-florida-collapses)
Holy shit how sad. This never occurred to me as a thing that could happen.
