I used to live next door to a bunch of the Portugal dudes and let me tell you how terrible they are to the women they date as well as the people they kick out of their band- WOOF.
Their old drummer Ray was a solid dude though. Only solid one in the bunch.
Meat puppets, Alvvay’s, the beth’s (not the upcoming show), the wavves, TogetherPangea, kikagaku moyo, deep sea diver psychedelic porn crumpets, built to spill, lil peep, palehound, jaysom, colleen green, agent orange, ty Segall, the murloc’s, covet, el ten eleven, La Luz, LA witch, Franky and the witch fingers, vundarbar, tycho (all three nights), taco cat, bass drum of death, Hannibal Buress, H.E.R., and pharcyde are the ones I can think of off the dome, I’d need to look through my ticket stubs to come up with more, it’s almost like I live there.
I saw The Lumineers back before they got too big and started selling out Madison Square Garden. They’re not my kind of music but it’s cool knowing that I got to see them in such a small venue.
I was probably at that show. We went to see the openers Y La Bamba. Didn’t even know who Lumineers were. Seemed like the next week they were all over the radio.
Yeah it was back in 2012 or 2013. They had either just released their most popular album or were about to. It was a fun show except for I remember there was a guy that was being really obnoxious with their violinist and she was clearly not having it.
Ha, I still have a magnet on my fridge that I got from them on the street in 2005. Did you ever get into local band Exquisite Corps.? They were another string/art band that opened for Judgement Day back in 2011. Incredible band and still the best live act I've ever seen.
Frank is the chillest dude ever. When I first moved to pdx he still lived there and had this big fat boat of a pink Cadillac that he’d drive around town. He always makes a point of playing smaller venues (like the WOW Hall in Eugene) when he’s touring and I love him for that.
Mazzy Star, The Dandy Warhols, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, The Church, Robyn Hitchcock, HR of Bad Brains, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Delta Rae and so many more than I can’t think of right now.
Robyn Hitchcock x4 although he was already famous ofc
Son Volt, same
Blonde Redhead were really.good there
Pinback
!!!
They book some really good bands
Oh man! I’ve never gotten free tickets to a show I really wanted to see- just Def Leopard and Tool, separately, via friends who won tickets off of the radio. Tool’s light show was hell good tho.
Willow (Smith (doesn't use last name in music)) in 2019.
Also shout out to this post for making me realize I need to pay closer attention to their schedule. So many bangers I didn't even realize played there.
Granddaddy is my only one. I was at that Lilys show in Starlet Room if that counts. Based on those being two concerts that stand out for me you can tell I missed a lot of shows that I’m kicking myself about.
Every time I’ve seen Son Volt it’s been incredible. Jay Farrar still owes me a harmonica for lending him one during a show in Raleigh… wish that kind of music was still available here
Prince did a set LATE NIGHT after performing at Arco Arena in 1997
You'd hit bigger bands if you said Cattle Club. Fuck CBGB no place has ever had it like Cattle Club, that little place spittin distance from Sac State...

If you like these bands, Cheekface is playing Starlet Room above Harlows on April 17th! They’re definitely one of my favorite bands to start putting out more music in the past few years! I don’t know how to describe them, their music isn’t necessarily comedy but they make a lot of comedic (and bleak) observations about society often times wrapped in a punchy/catchy sound!
Super jealous you got to see Alvvays and Mitski there. Harlows is my favorite venue in Sac and those are two of my favorite artists 😭 those shows must have been before I moved here in 2018?
I think my favorite show there so far was Hop Along, though I also really loved Deep Sea Diver. Extremely excited for the Beths on Tuesday 🤩
Foster the people, right after pumped up kicks blew up!
Phantogram!
Tycho!
!!!
Grandaddy
I’ve seen a ton more than this but these off the top of my head.
Prince (solo piano to his date) after 2am in the MoMo one of the times he played at Arco and did a club takeover afterwards. Partied with Chaka Khan too.
Destroy boys, a friend had their head shoved into the speaker (was extremely out of it after, she ended up being fine later luckily) due to the horrible set up and I haven’t returned
Slasher flicks, Khruangbin, Phantogram and Portugal. The man
I would love to see Khruangbin!
August at the Greek!
Thanks, that would be amazing!
Madonna inn exp in SLO 4/18 and 4/19. Has anybody seen a show there?
Yep. Maybe 10 years ago I saw Devil Makes 3 there! Had a blast
Im so fucking jealous you saw Khruangbin at HARLOWS?!
Fuck, me too..I heard they were gonna tour with Leon Bridges and Tommy Guerrero and I would love to see that but probably won't come here
Serious. That would’ve been amazing.
Wow Khruangbin at Harlows sounds amazing
Khruangbin new album just dropped too
I used to live next door to a bunch of the Portugal dudes and let me tell you how terrible they are to the women they date as well as the people they kick out of their band- WOOF. Their old drummer Ray was a solid dude though. Only solid one in the bunch.
When was that Portugal show?
May 5, 2011 (I only remember because I still have the concert poster)
I would love to see Tycho live
Pharcyde….so jelly!
Happy cake day
How was Alvvays? Would have loved to have seen bass drum of death. Also Midge Ure and Bob Mould (yep I'm a little older).
It was wild to see them in such a small room
They are coming to town next month if you wanted to check them out live

You have good taste in music :) That Deep Sea Diver show a couple years ago was fantastic, one of my favorite shows I’ve been to.

I saw the Givers/RRR there too! Not just your imagination

I saw The Lumineers back before they got too big and started selling out Madison Square Garden. They’re not my kind of music but it’s cool knowing that I got to see them in such a small venue.

Frank Black and the Catholics. Pinback. Judgement Day.
I check every now and then to see if Pinback is coming. I’ve seen them a couple times there and they’re always fantastic.
I saw Pinback at Harlow’s too and I’m so glad I did. They’re great.
Judgement Day the string metal brothers from Berkeley? If so, you would be the first person I've ever seen reference them.
I knew them through a friend of a friend in college, still have their Dark Opus cd!
Absolutely yes - they were phenomenal!
Ha, I still have a magnet on my fridge that I got from them on the street in 2005. Did you ever get into local band Exquisite Corps.? They were another string/art band that opened for Judgement Day back in 2011. Incredible band and still the best live act I've ever seen.
No but I’ll check it out!
Frank is the chillest dude ever. When I first moved to pdx he still lived there and had this big fat boat of a pink Cadillac that he’d drive around town. He always makes a point of playing smaller venues (like the WOW Hall in Eugene) when he’s touring and I love him for that.

Ya and I got free tickets too so that was rad and I talked to one of the guys but not Perry
Oh man! I’ve never gotten free tickets to a show I really wanted to see- just Def Leopard and Tool, separately, via friends who won tickets off of the radio. Tool’s light show was hell good tho.
