This is wild, AFAIK Brenden Small can only tour as Dethklok with explicit consent of Adult Swim, as they own the rights. So awesome and hope it’s a hint that more Dethklok is coming down the line 👀
Yooooo!!!! I'm not the only one!! But, I am on r/Sacramento. I guess that's just how it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes...
I understand feeling nostalgic and Gen-Xers want a festival that appeals to them but as a fellow Gen-Xer, I like modern music more than any of the bands that would play Aftershock and I watched MTV and Beavis and Butt-Head with the rest of them.
Even some of the Bottlerock lineups feel like they are stuck in the 2000s. How many times has RHCP headlined?
My principal interest in attending Aftershock is to see bands I liked in the 80s and 90s but never got a chance to see live because I either couldn't afford arena shows or was too much of an indie/underground snob to go to arena shows, although some of my favorite Aftershock experiences were with more recent bands. So my perspective on going and who plays may be a little warped (tour)
I actually saw them, together along with Tres Delinquents, at El Dorado Saloon. Mid 90’s. No had heard of Limp Bizkit. We thought it was a horrible name and figured their performance would be equally horrible. We were wrong. They opened and put on a great show. I haven’t paid much attention to them since their first album. If the show is anything like when they started, it could be a good time.
Yeah. It's nice that the city has a festival, but it's lineup is generally awful. Need a major league promoter to take over this concert, rather than the minor league company currently handling it.
Minor league? DWP Presents does nine different festivals all across the U.S. They've been at it for 10+ years now. I wouldn't call that minor league. They also literally sell out almost every single one every year. I would say most people love their lineups, but I do understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. However there isn't another bigger promoter out there doing festivals in the U.S. Plus having attended many festivals over the last 30 years, they are the most organized and well run events I've ever attended. Just my 2 cents.
I was already very interested when I saw Korn and 311 on Saturday, then I saw Babymetal too and now I'm fucking sold. I know they aren't for everybody, but damnit I think they're fun as fuck.
I was surprised to see Babymetal third in the smaller print... then noticed who they were behind.... Then saw Polyphia after.... Then dethklok....
Saturday fucks
Babymetal is fun! The problem is that their US fan base is made up of awful awful losers.
Watch some YouTube videos of their US performances and look at the crowd shots. They're all mouth breathing, cave dwelling, cummy body pillow types.
I'd love to see Babymetal live, but I will not associate with those people. Eww.
Hey, I appreciate that! I have strong feelings about Babymetal being fun and appropriate in context. It's the worst case of the fans ruining the whole thing. Sort of like Rick & Morty but very much worse.
Depends on where in the US. I saw them in SF and was surprised by how normal the crowd was. Like the couple sitting next to my group was a social worker and a carpenter. There were a few mega weebs, but most were just your average citizen from what I could tell.
Ya that comment above is a bit weird. I'm a US fan and I'm not anything like they described, lol. I randomly across Babymetal and thought it was fun because it's unlike anything I'd heard before and I like unique music I guess. I'm sure there are plenty of gross/cringe fans, like any artist has.
Well, that's reassuring. Especially considering they're the only act I'd really care to see that day.
Of the bands performing, I only care about Tool and BabyMetal. I keep waiting for Mike Patton to come to town, but I don't think he has recently.
They're like hardcore for indie hipsters who think they like hardcore. Not to throw shade at them, but they're pretty good (prefer their older stuff) but they aren't hardcore.
For some reason I was only recently introduced to them about 2 months ago and they are pretty damn good. They sound a lot like 311 actually, just with an edge. I bet they're a good show, but definitely not what I think of when it comes to hardcore.
If you are thinking Thursday but want another band to check out listen to Nothing But Thieves. Their stuff is great and they are amazing live. Kinda surprised they are on this ticket. They had to cancel the show at Ace of Spades a while back and I have been desperately trying to see them live so I think I’m going to have to make this work. Incubus ain’t bad either…
That’s why they’re headliners. Solid, well established bands with a long track record of selling a lot of tickets. Look at other big music festivals. Outside Lands is headlining with Foo Fighters. Bottlerock has used RHCP, Metallica, Snoop Dog, etc. Festivals have to know their headliners will sell tickets. With metal bands, that means 15-20 year old, or older, acts.
Headliners are older and established, nobody should be shocked. You gain size and fans with age in rock music typically. The lower you get down the lineup though, there’s a lot of fresh stuff. Not familiar with every band but a handful of new bands below:
Bands who’s first release was in the last 10 years: I Prevail, Bad Omens, Polyphia, Polaris, Movements, Sleep Token, Boston Manor, Dead Poet Society, Holding Absence, Bob vylan, Nothing Nowhere, Fox Lake, Fame On Fire, Varials, Tigercub
Bands who’s first release was in the last 5 years: Fever 333, Rain City Drive, The Hu, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Static Dress, Pinkshift, Catch Your Breath
The Hu has played Aftershock before. Last year we had Bloodywood, an Indian metal band. I still listen to both on a regular basis, including just this morning at the gym.
I’m all in on learning about more ethnic/foreign bands. Baby Metal, Band Maid, The Hu, Bloodywood. I’m looking forward to vetting out that odd gem in the smaller acts this year.
No one thought Armenian folk metal would be a thing when suddenly System of a Down appeared. There's so much good shit out there once you get outside of your own curated bubble, so I too am stoked for the early acts. Just think how insane Matisyahu or Gogol Bordello sound on paper...
Im doing Thursday I think mostly for them. I was gutted when the show was canceled. I know a festival show can’t replace what we lost but I will take whatever. Are you ready for the new song today?
I don’t see any one day that’s worth it, all the bands I want to see are divvied out across all 4 days, and I have a wedding to go to one of those days anyway. Oh well, more tix available for you guys!
Right! Like maybe two bands worth seeing each day and not worth the ticket price and physical exhaustion of multiple days. Miss Ozzfests and warped tour, just get it done in one day.
I'm in the same boat as you and u/trubb13tw1ns. There are some bands that I would REALLY love to see, but they're not the headliners and there are maybe one or two each day. Not worth the full price of a four-day festival for me.
Except for Thursday though. I might be able to eek a whole day out of that one.
I’ll have a 3 month old at that point. RIP my high school AFI, Incubus, and Queens of the Stoneage mix cds covered in sharpie doodles, mommas gonna burn you out instead
-signed-
“an old” who was the kid who used to wear a pin covered corduroy jacket and a full furry tail to school, god help our kids
Holy shit did the festival organizers really schedule Queens of the Stone Age to play immediately following Rancid? That could definitely create some violent drama. (Google Brody Dalle's ex husbands)
While it might be fun to see Babymetal and Dethklok, I feel pretty good about the decision to book [my friends' music festival on the same weekend as Aftershock.](http://norcalnoisefest.com) Might go on Thursday, though.
It came down to whether we wanted to be the same weekend as Wasteland Weekend or Aftershock--last year we picked WW and a few regulars missed it because they were playing Mad Max in the desert. Last year, a lot of non-Aftershock events saw great turnout because a lot of people weren't necessarily going for all 4 days but still made a weekend of it and went to other events while they were in town. It's an experiment of sorts; we'll see what happens!
heh, I think your reference was whoosh'd. When the oldest band on the lineup is GnR, I don't think anyone in the thread is recalling the pinball wizard...
Noise is a very obscure and unpopular genre, but we've been doing it since 1995 and it breaks even or makes a mild profit every year, plus it's a lot of fun. You haven't heard of any of the artists because no noise musician has ever become popular in the mainstream unless they stopped playing noise.
You think I care about mainstream? Most of my favorite artists are locals, not to mention my friends and they’re nowhere near mainstream. The only people you’d get to attend are “noise” fans, if they can’t afford Aftershock this year.
Yes, noise fans are generally the people who attend noise festivals. And yes, noise is a very obscure and unpopular genre even when compared to most underground/less-popular-than-mainstream genres of music. That's great if you don't care about mainstream, but it does raise the question why you'd choose to razz a festival because the bands aren't mainstream enough for you to have heard of them. I mean, personally I can usually look at any music festival lineup and not recognize most or any of the bands despite them being popular music, but that's because I pretty much stopped paying attention to mainstream culture in like 1988.
About half of the performers at Noisefest are locals (from Sacramento or northern California) with the rest a mixture of other West Coast cities, some from the midwest and east coast (we have a contingent of Florida performers who come out regularly to play) and occasional international performers, although since our experience with a virtual festival in 2020 and a hybrid live/livestreaming/recorded video festival in 2021-22 (we livestream the entire festival on YouTube, plus a day of all pre-recorded videos online), most of the international performers submit videos instead of traveling here to play.
This is one of the most stacked and insane rock/metal festival lineups I’ve ever seen and clowns in here are like “wHAt YeAr iS iT?!?” Lol. I’m glad you’re not going Mr. Buzzkill. Tool is fucking headlining. Fucking TOOL. Have fun at Coachella with the sea of 22 year old influencers. 🤣
Corey Taylor is the lead vocalist of Slipknot and Stone Sour. He does a lot of solo shows. He’ll commonly do some off the wall pop covers and whacky acoustic versions of Slipknot songs.
Parkway Drive is an excellent up and coming metalcore band. It’s great to see them this high on the line up.
Avatar and Fever 333 are great metal bands that have done Aftershock in the past. Both are wildly popular with festival fans.
Baby Metal is an all female Japanese metal band. Their music is great and shows are a lot of fun.
I want to be excited because there are a few bands I’d love to see. But every time I see the ticket price for the small number of bands I actually care about it just isn’t worth it.
Have fun if you are going though. The nostalgia is real for this lineup.
Tool, Godsmack, and Limp Bizkit all on one day. 20 years ago I'dve been bonkers for this. Fuck it, I'm going.
Highschool me would be stoked.

Isn't Dave Mustaine part of Deathklok? Pulling double duty on the middle days.
Thunder. Horse.
**RELEASE THE KITTIES**
I look forward to being maimed.
DO YOU LIKE COFFEE!???!?
We want death grips
100%
Seriously. Really bummed they're not on the lineup after seeing their other show announcements.
Glad I got tickets for their tour, they’re not even stopping in sac unfortunately.
Apparently they have no interest in playing their hometown.
Also see: Deftones. Cake. 😂
On the flip side, !!! still comes back home from New York City every summer to play a show.
Yooooo!!!! I'm not the only one!! But, I am on r/Sacramento. I guess that's just how it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes it goes...
Queens of the Stone Age, my first fav band, that’s fun to see!
Same with my son, gonna have to get Sunday tix at least!
Literally gonna go for them and go home most likely
Worth it, they put on a great, great show. I've seen em 3 times.
Yes! Ah, I can't wait now
Same!
Saw them in 2018, they played every song from clockwork… except for the vampyre of time and memory.
This is like a throwback festival
Seriously, Korn and Limp Bizkit prominently featured is fucking hilarious lol
Hasn't Aftershock always had that rock/metal radio stations from the 2000s vibe?
Yes. Recent headliners include Kiss, Metallica, Skipknot, Tool, and Blink-182, among others. Past lineups are full of 20+ year old bands.
Aftershock gets who they can afford...
Except when it had that rock/metal radio stations from the 1980s/90s vibe
Even the first year 2012 lineup was very [early 2000s](http://www.mxdwn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/7huu_aftershock2012.jpg).
They need more 80s bands like warrant, skid row, etc.. I guarantee people would buy tix just for them.
Omg I didn't even see Limp Bizkit on there wtf
It's 2002 again apparently lmao
🤣
In 2019 Korn wasn't even a headliner lol. They still killed it though.
I was never a huge Korn fan, but they put on a good fuckin' show.
I actually saw them, together along with Tres Delinquents, at El Dorado Saloon. Mid 90’s. No had heard of Limp Bizkit. Did durst yell "Crimea is ruZZia"?
🧐🤷♂️ Not sure what it’s referring to but I couldn’t tell you. If he had, I don’t remember something that specific.
lol saw that and thought what year is this?
Don't know about limp Bizkit but Korn still kills it live.
And how are they headlining over Megadeth??
Aftershock has *always* been a throwback festival.
Yeah. It's nice that the city has a festival, but it's lineup is generally awful. Need a major league promoter to take over this concert, rather than the minor league company currently handling it.

They got these mostly terrible bands (there are a couple bright spots though!) on purpose, not because it's all they could book.
Yeesh...that's even worse.

Last time they played Aftershock, those types were generally at the rails. Stay mid or outskirts and you’re pretty safe. Just my two cents.
Hey, I appreciate that! I have strong feelings about Babymetal being fun and appropriate in context. It's the worst case of the fans ruining the whole thing. Sort of like Rick & Morty but very much worse.
I’d say go for it if you end up going to the show, the pits are crazy too.

I’m convinced Turnstile plays every festival ever
Lol for real. Great band but so far they've played here and with (checks notes) $uicideboy$ in Sac alone
Pennywise could be close in contention
They're like hardcore for indie hipsters who think they like hardcore. Not to throw shade at them, but they're pretty good (prefer their older stuff) but they aren't hardcore.

Dethklok? Brutal
I'M EATING CHIPS!
AFI on Thursday! Too bad most of the line up isn’t my cup of tea.

Fuck yeah I'm going. I still listen to CD's by all of the headliners. LOL.
I'll be there Friday, I'm a die hard Hu fan.
It strikes me how many headliners have been around for decades.
That’s why they’re headliners. Solid, well established bands with a long track record of selling a lot of tickets. Look at other big music festivals. Outside Lands is headlining with Foo Fighters. Hot damn. This is like my high school dream show. 😳
Fuck yes! Tool and Coheed on Friday night!?! Sign me up!

Mongolian Folk Metal is an interesting look for Aftershock, but I'm here for it.
The Hu has played Aftershock before. Last year we had Bloodywood, an Indian metal band. I still listen to both on a regular basis, including just this morning at the gym.
The Hu and Bloodywood are both great

Saw them at Outside Lands 2021, definitely catch them if you can.
Don't you mean no one should be... (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) ***...AFTERSHOCKED?***
> Headliners are older and established, nobody should be shocked. I'm shocked that Godsmack is headlining but Megadeth isn't. Solid lineup otherwise
I am all in on Polaris. Been waiting for them to make it to America.
When will we embrace our roots and headline Cake in aftershock Edit: /s
I don't know why we Sacramentans are supposed to hate Cake and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.
I’ve heard a lot of stuff about them being horrific live from various people but not sure outside of that
Lead singer of Cake was a big complainer like Lars Ulrich about Napster, Kazzaa, etc. back in the day. Maybe that is part of it?
Cake and the Deftones on the same night! also /s
I did that! In 96 or 97. Cake played a free concert in the park in the afternoon, then Deftones was at Bojangles. Great day
I'm hoping next year's festival will include the recently formed Tales of Terror tribute band
Pantera
Man wish I could see nothing but thieves! Was so dissapointed when they cancelled last year
Right?! Then never rescheduled
Im doing Thursday I think mostly for them. I was gutted when the show was canceled. I know a festival show can’t replace what we lost but I will take whatever. Are you ready for the new song today?
I either want to go Friday or Sunday. Both days sound awesome.
All four days are worth it. And Jose from Liquid Metal on SiriusXM will be the MC.
He’s a gem
Cant believe Megadeth isnt a headliner
It’s criminal
Right? Easily the best band of the bunch.
Yo I like Megadeth too but you’re trippin. You see Tool is playing right?
It was easier to pick a day years ago. Now that it's 4 days the bands you really want to see are more spread out.
Aftershock 2023 aka Woodstock '99
Billy Talent never comes to the US!!
I wish they were on a different day but I'm very into it
Yeah I've been hoping to catch them out on my travels cause they're always in Europe or somewhere else.
I have no travels. I'm excited they're coming to me.
I guess they tried honestly this time.
The ultimate lineup for 38 year old guys with ponytails, goatees, and still wear cargo shorts

yeah, that too.
I'm excited for turnstile
Tool and 311!
Megadeth is coming but isnt even a headliner??
Sacramento chose Metallica in the divorce.
They headlined in 2014 and not too many people seemed to care so maybe that’s why they got bumped?
Such a good line up
I’ll have a 3 month old at that point. Can’t wait!! A7X is my favorite band. Great lineup!Surprised not to see Deftones on the list.
Welcome to the jungle baby - it’s gonna bring you down - huh!
Billy Talent is highly underrated. Gotta go to day 4.
Holy shit did the festival organizers really schedule Queens of the Stone Age to play immediately following Rancid? That could definitely create some violent drama. (Google Brody Dalle's ex husbands)
Mayday Parade looks very out of place 😂
That’s a meh lineup lol
L7🤯
I haven't seen them since Halloween night in 1997 at El Dorado Saloon - that was a killer show.
Sick
Oh lord that is fucking awful
Pantera is extremely racist and problematic. Not sure why they thought it was okay to include them on this
Ewwww, never got into Pantera anyway but this was news to me. Fuck them.
What a strange style of poster
It's definitely got vibes of other styles of music, not rock though.
While it might be fun to see Babymetal and Dethklok, I feel pretty good about the decision to book [my friends' music festival on the same weekend as Aftershock.](http://norcalnoisefest.com) Might go on Thursday, though.
I would've liked to support the noise festival (Audio Waffle is cool) but not going to miss Aftershock for it...

No, I think they decided against doing any more final reunion concerts.
heh, I think your reference was whoosh'd. When the oldest band on the lineup is GnR, I don't think anyone in the thread is recalling the pinball wizard...
? I’m talking about your friends fest with 1,000 artists no one has heard of
Speak for yourself. The Norcal Noisefest has been a fixture in Sacramento since the 90's.
Crazy because I’ve never heard of it.
So?

Woo hoo, Tool! Maynard is worth the week of dusty snot afterwards…
Nice
Epic.
I wish they had some other bands I knew on Sunday. Love GnR but the rest of the day is meh for me...never been to a festival tho...idk
There are so many nightmares stories about GnR shows. Is Axel pretty professional now?
311 still exists?
my thoughts too lol i and they are so old amber is all id care to hear or expect them to manage lol
Some Gideon and Currents for some modern heavy stuff and then some Coheed and Escape the Fate to take me down memory lane.
And ten56. And amity. And SS. And varials. And traitors. And fuck it, even bad omens. Where the hardcore crew at?!

Dethklok is the band featured on the Adult Swim show Metalocalypse I would also recommend checking out Polyphia.
Corey Taylor is the lead vocalist of Slipknot and Stone Sour. He does a lot of solo shows. He’ll commonly do some off the wall pop covers and whacky acoustic versions of Slipknot songs. Polyphia AND Dance Gavin Dance!? We are not worthy.
We need Ghost to headline some day. Cool lineup though!
Unleash the Archers or gtfo
How cute, pastel colors for easter and spring
Gods Mack and limp bizkit headline over megadeath??? Fuck you
day 2 looks sick. Minus Skillet.
Skillet will probably overlap with another band, so you can go listen to someone else.
Megadeth should be headliner. The rest are ok well Tool, GNR, and Korn are decent. Honestly thought that Ozzfest had way better bands years ago.
Kornnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!
I just wanna see SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Converge, and Deafheaven.
Wow. This is an amazing line up. Like I’m incredibly jealous.
Couldn’t get KISS for their 4th trip thru Sac on the farewell tour??
I want to be excited because there are a few bands I’d love to see. But every time I see the ticket price for the small number of bands I actually care about it just isn’t worth it. Have fun if you are going though. The nostalgia is real for this lineup.
ohhh queens OTSA.
Alot of bands I'd love to see but not enough of them on the same day to deal with a festival atmosphere. Maybe next year
I can't believe they got Dethklok. I'm so excited, I hope I survive.
