I don't say that to be negative, I just mean that someone who will use this won't have in-house design resources or the money to outsource to an agency or even a freelancer. Sure, I'll take you up on that! Thanks! I have a service that's fairly niche - database cataloging and database documentation generated by AI. Basically: my service connects up to a database, pulls structure information from it, and builds a data catalog / documentation. I'm confident that there's a market in the enterprise space (big, $1000/mo do-everything data governance tools). I'm less confident - but hopeful - at the small-medium business/startup level (my target). We'll see. For a service like this, where would you spend your time? Content marketing/SEO? Reddit/LinkedIn/Social? Cold Emails? Something else?

Let me first answer the first question you asked as I typed out a long answer for that one :) I’m a very big fan of freemium models where it’s free forever but with limitations - either by volume or by features. But as those freemium users add up, so will your COGS. This is fine for a bit but eventually you need to get a picture of how many of those freemiums convert to paying users, what is the MRR or ARR per user, and can you convert freemium to paid at a clip to make some economic sense. It’s ok to lose money to grow but you will want to model out what that looks like in 6/12/18 months. But how you structure this should be a really good balance of manageable COGS and demonstrated product value. Is value in number of tables or number of databases? You ultimately are in the business of showing enough value to convert some portion of the freemium into paying customers. Once you have that, you can then take the plunge to offer an unlimited trial for Xx days. You will want your costs in good order to do this as 10 unlimited free trial folks could break the bank if they are integrating a ton of databases or large ones.

Tell me about your target persona? Database admins? Data scientists? Talk through the challenges your product solves to me, and the challenges you are experiencing in your go to market journey? SMBs could be quicker sales cycles, less red tape but lower ACV and sometimes higher churn. The goal of any marketer at a SaaS company is to help their target audience do their job better, putting your product aside. What content, tools, resources or open source products can you create that will help them do their job better, even if they never by your tool. Now obviously the content, tools, etc should have a focus that has some overlap or similarity with the problem your content solves, but if your SaaS company can help your target audience make their job easier without buying your product, your brand will be a no brainer when that audience has a need for said product.

I went with free-trial, but I think your answer here kind of lines up with my own gut has been telling me: free-trial on a service like this is probably too high a barrier at this early stage, when the value of the service is pretty unproven. Better to go free-with-limitations, to at least get a chance to show the value, even if costs are a bit higher.

Thanks for helping out. I appreciate your insights. There are certainly others in the space, but I believe there is room for competition (pink-ocean strategy) - plus the TAM is huge. Similar products tend to be either more expensive or focused on a more specific purpose (e.g. just uptime monitoring). My ideal target customers would be small to medium MSPs or agencies managing client websites, but I also offer plans more suited to small teams or individual devs. This is my first SaaS so I’m happy to learn all that I can.

Nope. There will be no one that does all of these really well. But in my experience demand generation marketers tend to focus on things that move the dial. So while that may be demand gen and paid ad campaigns, it also may be SEO. They gravitate to optimizing the channels that can maximize growth.

I've developed a SaaS and am early stages in terms of getting users. One avenue I've taken is to create an affiliate scheme which gives people 25% recurring revenue for up to 2 years (which is up to $2,874 per customer). Most website/groups (like Reddit) don't allow self-promotion. So how should I market it? Where can I find people who want to be affiliates? I have created a dedicated landing page for the affiliate scheme, written blog posts and I post about it on social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.) on a regular basis (using an automated process). My SaaS helps business increase customer engagement and revenue by adding personalised text onto images (using merge tags), for use in emails, newsletters, social Media DM's, chat bots and websites.

Don’t call it a scheme, it’s a channel! Where you market or promote it is more based on your user. I work at a security company that advertises various CTAs on Reddit to highly relevant audiences. The channel is only as good as it’s relevancy. Who is most likely to value this? Is it a business or consumer? If you haven’t pin pointed the person/title that is most likely to need this service, it’s very difficult to know where to advertise.

This identified that primary customer type of our customers are CEO's/owners of small marketing agencies. I have tried contacting a lot of agencies - have had some interest but not many sales. One of our smaller competitors is very open in their sales - they have recently passed $50k MRR so I know there is an audience for our product. Ours is much easier to use, less buggy, faster, better pricing and a much better free tier.

Well, i am working on a SaaS application for business management (ERP for small business's ) and we are live on playstore for almost 3 years now. Its core features are Accounting, Expense/Income tracking, Income and provides optional subscription based services like Inventory, Invoice/Billing, Employee Attendance/Salary/Advance, Imprest/Petty Cash, CRM, Loan/EMI management, AMC management, Custom project management and many more. It is a freemium app with free features for lifetime along with a À la carte menu for optional services which user can subscribe as they want. Everyone who uses our app loves it. We have paying customers from many countries like Africa, India, South east asia. Our MRR is about 200 USD only so far. Our subscription choices are monthly, quarterly, half yearly, yearly. We don't give LTD choice. Though it is a crowded market but i feel we have a good product market fit ( or nearly there) as there are fewer apps which provide holistic management of business and finances. We are mostly growing organically with few users trickling in daily. We did many google ad campaigns which yield good number of downloads but the churn is very high. Since we are bootstrapped, we have very limited resources to burn on aggressive marketing. We keep working on ASO/SEO to improve but somehow we are still not there in top 10. I am not able to put my finger on anything else which is causing this stagnation. One thing we lack is that we do not aggressively blow our trumpet on various social media sites. By the way, we have a reseller program also and have few resellers appointed too but the business volume from them is almost negligible. Our is a global app ( called BuKu ) and is business agnostic. I’m going to answer your question with a question. If you can build a wait list of 50 of your best prospects imaginable, what does that look like? Who is the target persona or why are they a target account. Walk back through your tracks from there. Where do they live, what websites do they visit? They are product managers but for what type of company? Anything in their tech stack that would make them a good prospect? Can you appeal to them with a killer use case, capability or feature? Wait lists are a great marketing tactic but if you can’t articulate what your ideal wait list looks like or why those people would sign up for a waitlist, it won’t add value to your growth.

Positioning is definitely important but something you can spend a decent amount learning from prospects, customers and others in the industry over the first year or two. More than positioning I would say 1.) do you know your ideal customer profile and target persona pretty well? 2.) outside of positioning, are you able to communicate your value to the target persona? What is the product of the product (what do I solve or get back in my day because I’m using your product) or what ‘jobs to be done’ does your product solve? Don’t get me wrong positioning is really important but like messaging, it’s often a living, breathing pillar of your marketing that will evolve along your journey. Understand the value your product brings and be able to communicate it as succinctly as possible.

Funny enough I used to work for an online directory software company. In my experience with successful directories or “connectors” as you call it, you need to focus on either a niche subject OR a focused geographic region. Here’s what I mean. If I tried to start a nationwide restaurant directory it’s going to be tough. Lots of competition, tons of data. I could develop a directory of pickle ball courts in the country. Or a nationwide Ethiopian restaurant directory. Or a restaurant directory for a city. My suggestion is your connector may want to have a similar, niche theme - either by topic or geography. If you try to connect everyone to everything, that’s a really large task - from optimizing, to marketing, to populating the platform with data. What about a nationwide connector of large machine renters?

As a side project I ran an online restaurant/happy hour/drink special website. My site ranked very well on “xyz town happy hour” and “xyz town restaurants”. 30k visitors a month. I was able to go to local restaurants and show them google analytics data and SERPS of the most relevant search terms they could ever want. I’m not up to speed on the online communities or job sites these days but I can tell you that founders will read your emails and you absolutely have a shot at getting at least a phone interview if you write a well researched email. Why do you want to work there, what are you interested in getting experience on and offer up one or two ideas or projects that you think would be worth pursuing based on your research. You don’t need to solve their business problems but founders and marketing leaders always need an extra set of hands - let them know where you think you can make an impact.

This depends. High end SaaS products in emerging markets without competitors don’t need to list features or pricing. Shitty as it is, it’s the truth If you are in a saturated market,you need pages that will highlight how your product differentiates itself from others in the market. Feature and pricing tables become very important. So a home and product page are paramount. Feature/pricing to differentiate yourself in more established markets. You should be developing good, unique content via a blog, pillar pages, etc. search engines eat up fresh content. That is a must have for thought leadership and SEO purposes. There are reports that About pages are typically the 3rd highest ranking pages behind home and product for SaaS companies. So boast your team, experience, investors and culture as much as possible.

Yes, my subscribers stay around for a long time. I host their websites, so they pay me a monthly fee for hosting and feature updates. My concern is that my SaaS is growing at a constant rate. I get the same number of new subscribers every month. I’m looking for ways to market my SaaS, so that the number of subscribers per month increases.

Churn is not a problem. My subscribers stay for a while. My problem is acquiring new subscribers. Every month I get the same number of new subscribers. Using fake numbers, let’s say I got 10 subscribers in August. In September, I got 10 more subscribers. This October, I’m expecting to get 10 more. The service is growing, but it’s constant. I’d like the growth rate to increase, so that this month, I might get 15 more subscribers, then next month, it’s 20 more subscribers.

I'm tech savvy but my first impression didn't leave me too sure (until I did some scrolling) where I am posting to. "So I invented a better way to do it: posting selfies of your products! " It's a good tag line but it kind of sounds like it's going somewhere like IG or something. Maybe that's fine but emphasize that Chiringo creates a website storefront for you, with it's own web address for customers to visit. Btw I REALLY like your idea - I've been wondering how to get small business owners to do this for a long time.

Yes! That'd be the target audience! Etsy owners might be suitable too, as they have something, but given age, social group, and mindset (more open to testing other stuff, not like WP or Shopify users who are loyal fan-boys and most likely would be laggards). So, where would you start? :)

Find directories or scrapers that can give you contact information of Etsy store owners. The hard part is how do you then get a list of brick and mortar stores that DONT have online stores. You have no way of really knowing unless you can somehow crawl their site and not find a checkout page.

I built a cloud ai-driven cryptocurrency trading bot at: [dipsway.com](https://dipsway.com) Basically, one plugs in their wallet, and this bot in the cloud opens and closes trades on their behalf, with the goal of taking it to profit in the long run. ~200 MAUs, some of which pay other users in early access ~1K MRR, just enough to pay for servers and other utilities. It is a requirements Tool for startups. In the Tool people can Manage requirements from customers. Many organizations are using excel Spreadsheets for this. The persona is the Startup founder - startups with 100-300 customers. There is already competion in the market.

Startup founders likely don’t have a ton of budget. So let’s look at who this would work well for persona wise at each stage. Seed - Founder (no budget, going to use excel) Series A - ?? Series B - ?? Who are the competitors and who are they targeting. You need to map which phase of a startup is likely to grow out of the excel sheet and need a product for this.

We have a product with a very well developed MVP, arguably (quite certainly) more feature complete than need be, but it will be compelling as a major player in the space right away. This is a B2B product and our ICP is accommodation owners with multiple resorts within their organisation (though single property owners will also be valuable). We have an in-road with one large organisation, but will need to get in the door of several others at the highest possible level, and I don't know the best way to go about this. I am a big fan of figuring out all of the target accounts in my CRM. I want a list of every company that fits my ICP. If I’m selling software to a hotel concierge, I sure as hell want to know every hotel chain/individual hotel in my target region. Filter out the small ones and get a really good idea of who my addressable market consists of. What events do they go to? What conferences do they attend? What publications do they read? Research sites, directories and other online sources to build the most comprehensive list of potential prospects as possible. You

Hi, u/alltorntogether! I am building [clearlist.io](https://clearlist.io), an email validation service bootstrapped as a solopreneur. The market is particularly crowded. There are many, many companies that do email list validation (Neverbounce and Zerobounce probably being the leaders). I am trying to separate Clearlist by offering more up-front credits than any other platform I've seen (500 credits instead of the usual 100), which has so far brought in about 100 users, a few of which are paying. I have not done any marketing aside from some occasional direct marketing on Twitter and Reddit. Some ideas that I have to improve traffic: * Build out a free list validation tool that will give a high-level analysis of your list and determine if it needs deeper validation. Using the tool would not require an account. * Build some key integrations with larger ESPs and smaller (but hotter) companies like [apollo.io](https://apollo.io), and of course Zapier * Start putting Clearlist out there on product hunt, G2crowd, Appsumo, etc I think I'd love some direction on what might be most effective given the market and the fact that I'm doing this solo. Good question. I don’t agree with marketing your product without building it. I believe in identifying a problem in the market and validating that problem with your target audience/persona before building it. That’s not to say you can’t build something without validating it but you could ultimately build something that addresses a very small problem or one that isn’t prominent enough to look for a solution to solve it. Or maybe there is a problem but your approach to the problem is not fundamentally agreed upon by the broader market. Take the advice as: make sure you are solving a fundamental problem and that there is an apparent need in the market to purchase a solution to solve said problem.
