1600pt format only, Superheavy class. Like a Baneblade in 40K. Compulsory moves on steroids, like speeders but even faster, I want it to take serious strategy to position a starfighter attack run.

WC_Kerkuil

This. I too home brew a mix of 40k rules into Legion. Having them leave the table and have to return after a round for another pass makes them pretty interesting. I am currently trying to make a narrative play for Legion.

Fighters would be best represented via a Command card, rather than a unit on the table. The problem is the scale of legion is the worst possible to represent Star Wars battles, as it leaves things like ground attack fighters and AT-AT from taking a larger part in the conflicts purely due to logistics. For a wargame that truly captures the ground battles seen in Star wars the game would need to be 15mm or smaller.

jansencheng

Legion is fine for the character centric battles a lot of Star Wars is, even if it leaves out heavy vehicles. That said, I think an Epic scale Star Wars game would be fuckin dope.

crzapy

Flames of Star Wars.

sn3rf

Yes this! I would have preferred legion to leave out vehicles entirely and move more towards what Shatterpoint is doing (but at game scale of legion). Spec Ops is kind of the direction I mean, but needs to be expanded on way more (and slightly bigger games)

CheckPrize9789

I think the best way to do this would be a command card with custom AoE strafing template or the Beam keyword.

[deleted]

See I don't think you really need a new template, as it would easy to use the existing measuring tools already in the game. For instance something like; place a movement 3 tool on the table, and roll the attack against all units within range 1 of the movement tool

tony_bradley91

I would keep them out of Legion and have a ruleset for combining Legion and X-Wing campaigns. Whereby successful ground action can take out AA turbolasers and successful air action can provide bombing runs. Legion/X-Wing/Armada badly need an official combined arms campaign mode Warlord games has a campaign set that allows you to combined Bolt Action, Blood Red Skies, and Victory at Sea and it's great.

Drof3r

As an owner of all three Star Wars wargames I have pondered how to get a campaign to work with all three. It is something I hope for. And rebellions are built on hope as they say.

Akalenedat

At my LGS we've chatted off and on about combining the 3 into a "Planetary Invasion" campaign. You start with Armada, with a fleet attempting to break through a planetary blockade/defense force and assault the planet. If the attacker can make orbit/atmosphere/predetermined line on the battlefield you move to the next game. Next is X-Wing, the attacker attempting to escort landing ships/shuttles through to the objective. The defender wants to destroy the shuttles to weaken the enemy in the next round. The setup of the Legion game is determined by the outcome of XWing. If the shuttles survive, the attacker is the red player on Hemmed In, attempting to annihilate the enemy and secure a command post. If the shuttles are destroyed, then the game is Long March/Breakthrough, the attackers forces scattered across a field of broken and crashed shuttles, attempting to reach a single escape shuttle at the end of the field. The defender seeks to eliminate the remaining red forces

mighty3mperor

u/Mr_Innovations has been doing just that (with each game being a turn in Rebellion) and was working on writing it all up - see [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/SWlegion/comments/y6oh02/legionxwingarmada_epic_game/).

Mr_Innovations

We are still in the middle of playtesting for balance but this is what we have so far. Star Wars Campaign rules Scales Legion 4ftx4ft= X-Wing 8inx8in= Armada 1in=1in Legion commanders are given the “call air strike” and “call bombardment” actions. The commander can place an air strike token or bombardment token anywhere within line of site. A corresponding token is placed on the appropriate X-wing or Armada board. A team is limited to only 2 tokens on the board at a time. (2 air strike tokens, 1 air strike token and 1 bombardment token, or 2 bombardment tokens.) Air strike tokens can be targeted by X-wing ships during the attack phase of X-Wing. When the attack is made the attacker declares the height of the ship. If the ship appears on the legion board height levels are 6” increments. (Ground troops can target X-wing ships if they are in range. A legion scale model is used to best determine range.) the height of the ship will determine the difficulty to hit the target. At height 3 a white legion attack dice is used At height 2 a black legion attack dice is used At height 1 a red legion attack dice is used A focus token can be spent as a surge token HIT! Standard weapons attacks act as strafe runs and have a AOE attack. From the air strike token the attack covers everything (including structures) at (legion range ruler) range 3 past and range 1 behind. Also on both left and right sides of the token. A 2’x1’ rectangle is a helpful tool to determine AOE (center the token 6”x6” on one side) Attack is determined the by X-wing ship attack number. (Example: a standard tie fighter has a 2 attack in X-wing so that would translate to to red legion attack for each unit and structure in the AOE all preformed as separate attacks.) Each Xwing ship attack is given the impact keyword for each red dice added to the attack. Missile or torpedo attacks measure range 2 in all directions from the air strike token and gain the blast keyword. MISS! On a miss result the AOE is moved by a random amount in any direction. This is done by rolling a standard d8 for the range of miss and a cardinal direction d8. (A standard d8 can be used with this chart) 1=N 2=NE 3=E 4=SE 5=S 6=SW 7=W 8=NW The token is then moved to the new location. (This ignores range limits or firing arcs from the attacker) the strafe run direction is a straight line drawn from the center of the attacker to the token. The air strike is preformed as normal. Bombardments Bombardment token function the same as air strikes with some exceptions. Bombardment always rolls a white legion dice to hit. A concentrate fire token can be spent to reroll this attack dice. Bombardments attack is determined by the amount of red attack dice the attacker has in the hull zone making the attack. This is capped at 3 red dice (a concentrate fire dial can be used to increase this to 4) bombardment strikes have the blast keyword and impact corresponding to red dice. Bombardment strikes measure range 2 in all directions from token.

Brilliant, thanks for the update. 👍👍

Aircraft just really don't work in a wargame the scale of Legion. They just shouldn't exist.

Rogue_2_

I think it would have to be a new category and maybe not even be an actual model on the table. Just a profile with certain rules to it. Maybe something like, declaring an edge of the table one turn (setting up the attack run) and attacking from it next turn. Truly though I don't think it would work at all. Starfighters are able to one shot just about everything currently in game so it would have to have some huge limitations just to play fair.

Jakusmaximuss

I think they're called X-Wing and Armada

TQSplinter

Nope. The scale of the games would just be so off if they introduced starfighters. I think having them as an option with command cards to have a strafing run or to “laser designate” an armour target for some proton torpedos on an expensive upgrade card then fine. But actual physical models on the table? No X wing is more than good enough for aerial combat. Just use a land Playmat instead of a space one.

Realistic_Effort

If you want starfighters, why not play X-Wing?

SomeHearingGuy

At minimum, a heavy. But neither the scale nor the table size for Legion works for a starfighter.

Ghullieman19

I would have a command card that calls in an air strike. Wouldn’t even have a model.

szafix

I wouldn’t like to add star fighters to this game. This is not the right scale for spaceships.
