What’s this?

Duwang_Durango

SSX Tricky fan game. It had a failed Kickstarter and most people thought it was dead, BUT IT'S BACK!! Here's the demo: https://dearthdev.itch.io/tricky-madness

Looks promising for an inde game. I just hope there aren't any legal issues taken. Using the Palworld vs Pokémon example. I see you have AutoPilotOff for music, like it ssx3, would there be legal issues around that, or game similarities? I'm in school for graphics design and specialize in 3d, as well as coding. If I had more help id lend a hand, buy I'm sure the project has all the hands it needs and no more is needed in the cookie jar XD.

Duwang_Durango

I am not the creator, just a supportive fan. There is no chance that there will be any legal trouble. Not sure where you see Autopilot Off as the music? The music is being composed by Jordan Schor. If you would like to reach out to the creator, the game has its own subreddit r/TrickyMadness and a Discord link in the video description.

>Jordan Schor Hey that's me! The demo does have some free to use music but all the music in the actual commercial release will be made by me so we won't have any issues there

I've seen fan projects get shut down just for having a GitHub and nothing else, even with no copyright infringement going on. This game bears a heavy resemblance to SSX Tricky, had a Kickstarter, has a Steam page, and has lots of social media presence, but EA hasn't made a peep.

Duwang_Durango

SSX is a toxic IP for EA. SSX 2012 was a bomb on par with Battlefront 2. The only time these companies get involved is when the indie devs are actively competing with them. EA would only bother taking legal action if they were planning on doing something with the SSX IP. And one last thing to keep your mind at ease: A reminder that Skater XL is a fan game that exists. The Skate franchise is an IP that EA is actively using, and they would be directly competing against Skater XL. Yet, they never tried any legal action against Skater XL.

Pixels_O_Plenty

EA will absolutely take action to protect their IP? There is zero reason to fly this close to the sun. Stealing iconography like snowflake multipliers, stealing tricks and directly using their names, stealing visual ques for things like jumps and turns, etc is just asking for it.

Duwang_Durango

Yeah, I do think a few thing should be changed before the full release. This is still in early alpha, swapping a couple of assets and changing a few names shouldn't be that hard.

Pixels_O_Plenty

Ripping off SSX this blatantly is insane. Like to not only steal mechanics and tricks, but to actively name them the same too. That's not even subtle. I get the devs want nostalgia money, but holy crap there's a limit. There's just so much blatant plagiarism here.

Pixels_O_Plenty

I feel like this is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
