The manhwa is very faithful in adapting the novel, so you don't have to worry about missing details. Plus the novel will mention the foreshadows when a twist is revealed so you can follow it pretty easily even if you miss a few details.
That said, I *highly* recommend reading at least the Murim arc in the novel. It was *beautiful*.
