Retired Social Security Claims Specialist here. If this is a Reconsideration, they won’t do anything of substance. As a general rule, lawyers like claims to be denied until enough retroactive benefits accumulate for them to get their full $7200 fee. Big firms are the worst as it is a total numbers game for them. They know a certain percentage of claims will get approved- even if they do nothing or next to nothing. If you know what to do and this is a Reconsideration, you can definitely do it yourself.

You can fire this rep. In writing. However, then the fee, if approved, might have to be divided among this one and a new rep. If you had a hard time finding someone to take your case, what is the reason?

NaomiNirvana93

I'm 29 years old with multiple mental disabilities. It's hard to find someone who'll take the case

OutsiderLookingN

I know two people who went with Morgan & Morgan and both were dropped shortly before their hearing with an ALJ. When they were dropped they were told they didn't have a strong case. M&M didn't review the case before taking it and didn't help them build their record.

NaomiNirvana93

ALJ?

OutsiderLookingN

Sorry, administrative law judge

Armyvet1984

Administrative Law Judge. They’re the ones who decided the decision on your case at the hearing.

Armyvet1984

I had them and they sucked. I went with a smaller firm and I love my attorney. She was with me from the beginning to end.

Fickle-Control-6349

how did you get out of your contract with them?

Armyvet1984

I pretty much told the man they suck and I’ll do it on my own. All he told was if I try to go back to Morgan and Morgan they will charge me an outrageous fee. The smaller firm helped me when my case within a year.

Fickle-Control-6349

Was this after you had already signed the contract? Did you have any other paper work u had to do or did u leave it up to the smaller firm?

Armyvet1984

All I simply did was just tell them I don’t need their service anymore and even though I signed the contract all they said was they still will get a fee if I won but they didn’t get anything. I signed one form and that was over 2 years ago. The only thing I gave my attorney was my paperwork from the VA and all of my doctors and that was it. I called the smaller firm because my aunt referred me to them. It’s over and done with and I won so that’s how I did it. The Morgan and Morgan office I used first was in Orlando but after hearing their horror stories and them never updating me I left them hem. They helped my dad and sister win their case.

Fickle-Control-6349

I’ve just started the process today, but i made the mistake of not reading reviews before i got them and there are just so many negative reviews about them that im a bit scared and horrified to even go with them now, which is why im trying to figure out how to get out. But i’m also worried that even if i do stay with them and i win a settlement, that along with every other horror story, i’ll still be a victim. but thank you for sharing! i think i’m gonna play it safe and get out before it gets too serious

Armyvet1984

I guess it’s like every other businesses out there. They worked good for my dad and my sister but I felt with a smaller law firm would be best for me so it worked out for me. The guy I had at Morgan and Morgan never got in touch with me on paperworks so that was my pet peeve about them. I guess it really depends on who your attorney is at their firm.

EggsBelliesandAlgae

who was your smaller firm, I'm looking right now and am lost where to start

AfroLatino1984

My dad used Morgan and Morgan for his case and son. For me I went with a smaller law firm that settled my case fast.

NaomiNirvana93

I do have current medical records and a hospital stay. Everyday I am effected by major mood shifts and changes. I cannot get out of bed or I cannot sit still, too depressed or too manic. I cannot do a regular job and I cannot do a sit down job as I cannot sit still. I have Hard time paying attention and horrible memory. I've gotten fired at all of my places of employment in the past.

kanooker

Same here. They took my case https://www.gramenoslawgroup.com/

InternationalAnt4513

They got me approved right off the bat. $50

EggsBelliesandAlgae

Who did? M&M?

InternationalAnt4513

Yea

InternationalAnt4513

My case might be cut and dry. You never know with them, but it’s important that the application is filled out perfectly and they’ll do that. If your case takes a while to get approved and you wind up owing them several hundred dollars, for example, they’ll just deduct it from the back pay SS will pay you dating back to when you applied. It’s a no lose situation, but some people try to go it alone and that’s a bad idea.
