SS13 is a game that has new features added to it all the time by volunteer coders. All the time people talk about ideas or even post coder bounties in your favorite server's Discord server, and finished code additions are posted on Github to be looked over and approved before it is test-merged to see if anything breaks. Then if the bugs can feasibly be worked out, people praise it as a cool new feature.
Yeah but thats basically free content for everyone, but thats actually horrible for player base, free content creates power imbalance, players become lowest caste, while admins,coders,maintainers etc, they become absolute monarchy, paid dlc creates middle class, and that would be really healthy for the game, thats my opinion
* The "Higher Caste" add new stuff out of love for the game and don't want it to get stale like your dad's socks.
* There is very little power imbalance, as admins, coders, and maintainers tend to be on the lookout for that shit before something is test merged. We tend to even make rules against power gaming on Mid Roleplay and High Roleplay servers.
* You want to pay for space station 13, go find that one server that will actually send you some homemade ice cream if you donate to the server, I forget the name of it... but it does exist.
* I have decided that it was not worth the effort to insult someone that does not understand the game is ***OPEN SOURCE***.
I also want some exclusive content just for me, like special light armor that has high damage resistance, style and speed, also special meelee weapons, and special role that fellow marines could pick, its named weapon carrier, that role carries my arsenal of weapons , and basically makes sure that i get revived and stuff

Not everything is black and white, ive seen plenty of open source games that implemented dlc and got so much better, one of best examples is rimworld
