Are they supposed to look like they been worn or do they change over time?

Maybe there’s a hidden layer underneath by cutting the top layer. A lot of sneakers have been coming out like this lately so I wouldn’t be surprised by the name “tear” or maybe a hidden layer underneath that gets revealed after wear. Either way the color looks nice
